Abstract

Nurses’ preparedness of facing disasters plays an important role in determining the success rate of disaster management. Nurses have an important role in providing nursing actions in the phase of disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery and rehabilitation. The purpose of this Literature Review was to identify nurses’ preparedness in dealing with disasters. The data collection technique was by searching for articles published in 2010 – 2020 on Pubmed, Proquest, Ebsco and Google Scholar with keyword Nurse, disaster, preparedness, disaster preparedness, and disaster management. The inclusion criteria are abstract and full text, the type of search in the database with journal articles, cross-sectional study design, published in Indonesian and English, articles published from 2010 to 2020 and articles discussing the preparedness of nurses to face disasters. The article search used PRISMA flow diagram and obtained 1859 articles, but only 12 articles were included in the article analysis review. Of the 12 articles analyzed, they show that the majority of nurses were not ready in facing disasters with a range of 46.5% - 97.5%. However, 69% of nurses were interested to participate in disaster training for preparedness of self-protection. The results of the review concluded that nurses are less than optimal in dealing with disasters, so every agency must encourage the nurse preparedness training in dealing with disasters.

Abstract

Spiritual care is a part of end of life care, which role is to provide a sense of comfort and peace to the patient and ease the grieving process for the family. Nevertheless, COVID-19 pandemic caused many challenges experienced by ICU nurses in the implementation of spiritual care. This study aimed to identify empirical evidences of ICU nurses experience in providing spiritual care to end-of-life care patients during COVID-19 pandemic. It used a literature review method, analyzing articles from 5 reputable databases, namely Pubmed, Proquest, CINAHL, Science Direct, and Google Scholar with the range of publication years between 2020 and 2022. The keywords used were 'pandemic COVID-19', 'critical care nursing’, 'end of life care', 'dying', 'spiritual care', and 'nursing experience'. The articles were selected in stages by PRISMA flow. 2,727 articles were identified and selected based on the duplication and the inclusion criteria until 6 analysis-deserve articles were obtained. The analysis results showed that during COVID-19 pandemic spiritual care was an important domain in end of life care. Spiritual care for end-of-life patients can reduce anxiety and ease the grieving process for the family. The implementation of spiritual care during pandemic era experienced many challenges; thus, an innovative strategy was required to implement it. Abstract

ABSTRACT Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is one of the causes of most patients being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and has the potential to cause death due to inadequate gas exchange due to fluid in the alveoli. One of the interventions given is prone positioning to increase lung expansion. This study examines the benefits and impact of prone positioning intervention in ARDS patients. This literature review uses the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) guidelines with the keywords "ARDS, effectiveness, and prone positioning" using the Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases. The inclusion criteria were full text in English or Indonesian with no restriction a publication year. 4,164 articles were collected according to keywords, and five articles that had gone through elimination and met the inclusion criteria were selected. Prone positioning in ARDS patients can reduce mortality and increase PaO2/FiO2. However, there are drawbacks, such as causing pressure ulcers in certain areas and does not reduce the potential complications of VAP. Prone positioning benefits patients by reducing mortality and increasing PaO2/FIO2. In practice, prone positioning must be supported by the presence of trained medical personnel, and possible complications must be reduced. Keywords: ARDS, Effectiveness, Prone Positioning  ABSTRAK ARDS atau Acute Respiratory Disstress Syndrom merupakan salah satu penyebab kebanyakan pasien masuk Intensive Care Unit (ICU) dan berpotensi menyebabkan kematian sebab pertukaran gas inadekuat akibat cairan di alveolus, salah satu intervensi yang diberikan adalah prone positioning untuk meningkatkan ekspansi paru.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The conditions in the ICU can cause changes for the patient's family, because family is a system.  They may have changes such as psychological problems. If the family has problems, the family centered care approach in the ICU may be disrupted. Therefore, in this concept, the needs of the patient's family must be considered to support their well-being while accompanying the patient. The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that determine the priority needs of patients' families in the ICU. This study used a literature review method with a PCC approach that analyzed six articles published between 2020 and 2025 through national and international databases; PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Garuda. There are various factors that influence the priority needs of patients' families. Significant factors that can influence this may originate from the patient's condition; the length of stay in the ICU, and may be due to the sociodemographic conditions of family members. The sociodemographic are the age, gender, marital status, education, occupation, income, and kinship or relationship with the patient. All of these characteristics can affect the priorities of family needs, as these conditions can lead to differences in perception based on the circumstances of each individual accompanying the patient in the ICU. Keywords: Factors, Family Needs, Intensive Care.
