Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of narrative and dramatization in political content on public political participation in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Election (Pilkada) in Barito Timur Regency. A quantitative approach was used, with survey questionnaires distributed to 100 respondents from various demographic groups. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. The findings reveal that both narrative and dramatization in political content significantly affect political participation. Specifically, political narratives that resonate with local issues and emotionally charged dramatization elements encourage individuals to engage in political discussions and voting activities. This study contributes to the field of political communication by highlighting the role of media content in shaping political behavior. The practical implications are crucial for political campaign strategies, especially in utilizing social media platforms to influence voter engagement. The results also offer insights for further research on the impact of digital media content on political participation in contemporary electoral processes.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemi has changed the world in all sectors, particularly the health, economy, and education sectors. World Health Organization (WHO) announced the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) as a global pandemi. Therefore each country began implementing social distancing policies. The President of Indonesia insists on doing all activities from home: work at home, study at home and worship at home. Budi Luhur University carried out the President's appeal by carrying out work and learning activities from home by prioritizing the health and safety of the entire academic community. It is also a form of value embodiment of responsibility, cooperation, love, mutual help, being patient, and being grateful for the situation during a pandemi. Services are provided in the form of personal protective equipment (PPE) to hospitals around Jakarta to protect doctors and health workers. The services implemented also consist of socializing to the public about social distancing, washing hands regularly, wearing masks, staying at home campaigns, and providing handwashing places for online taxi bike drivers. The strategic steps exerted in the form of dedication to various communities are based on human values and the embodiment of the mental attitude of the philosophical value  "Cerdas Berbudiluhur".

Abstract

Background. The prohibition of leaving the house at sunset is believed to be a myth passed down from generation to generation. A myth is a story set in the past, contains an interpretation of the universe, and is considered to have happened by the person who tells the story or its adherents. Then, in a broader sense, a myth can refer to a traditional story. The film poster Maghrib Time is related to the myth of the prohibition on leaving the house during Maghrib etiquette. Then there are visual signs, such as child visuals, cultural elements, and characteristic design elements, including colour, layout, images, logos, and typography. Aims. This research aims to examine the meanings of Javanese cultural traditions on Maghrib film posters and the meanings of the signs. Methods. Then, the data sources were obtained from two sources: primary (observations on film posters at Maghrib time) and secondary (documentation such as interviews, the internet, journals, and books), using qualitative methods and Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis approach, based on object, representation, and interpretant. Data were obtained from observations, interviews, and a literature review. Result. The results of this research are that, in Maghrib Time, many supernatural creatures roam around, so it is recommended that children not go out at that time. It is also believed in the myth that at dusk, there is a new gimbal figure who likes children in the dark. There are also icons, indexes, and symbols through the selection of typographic elements, images, and colours.

Abstract

Political meme creators play an important role in conveying political messages, shaping public opinion as well as the practice of decision making through the political memes produced. Political memes circulating on various social media during the campaign period of the 2019 Presidential Election 2019 largely contain hate speech, hoax and character assassination. Nearing the grand campaign for the 2019 presidential election, political memes were popping up everywhere, containing humorous narratives in conveying political messages and support to the 2019 Jokowi-Amin pairing, which were distinct when compared to political memes in general. This study aimed to explore distinct actions by political humor meme creators around the grand campaign for the 2019 presidential election for the 2019 Jokowi-Amin pairing on Twitter. This study used a qualitative approach with the case study method. Primary data were obtained from observations and in-depth interviews with political humor meme creators who produced political humor memes nearing the grand campaign for Jokowi-Amin. Secondary data were sourced from digital materials (political memes, political humor memes, videos, and digital media). The results showed that the distinct behaviors displayed by these political humor meme creators influenced by habitus and capital aspects which aim to describe tastes and form classes in their social structure. Tastes are not only limited to consumption patterns of food, clothing and culture, but also include political ways of political humor meme creators who use humorous narratives in political memes to show their social class by not resorting to hate speech in winning the Jokowi-Amin pairing.
