Abstract

A series of nanoporous carbon was prepared with MOF-5 as a template and furfuryl alcohol as an additional carbon source by carbonation at temperatures of 550 °C and 900 °C, respectively, with and without activation using KOH. XRD patterns of the obtained carbons before and after the activation process showed characteristic peaks at the same 2θ values, which corresponded to the XRD pattern of a ZnO. The Surface morphology of the MOF-5 templated carbon with a carbonation temperature of 550 °C was in the form of a cube. In contrast, the one carbonated at 900 °C had a cubic and circular morphology. The N2 adsorption-desorption isothermal showed that MOF-5 templated carbon had a larger specific surface area, pore diameter, and pore volume than those of the original MOF-5. Activation of the MOF-5 templated carbon using KOH resulted in a decrease in surface area and pore volume. All the materials were measured for their hydrogen adsorption at room temperature and atmospheric pressure using a gravimetric method.

Abstract

This study aimed to utilize bottom-ash PLTU PT. IPMOMI, Probolinggo. Synthesis zeolite A conducted with directly method of hydrothermal. Initially, bottom-ash calcined at temperature of 800oC during 4 hours for eliminating residu of carbon from baking of coal, then it was dissolved with alkali NaOH, NaAlO2 and water deionization with comparison molar of 3.165 Na2O: Al2O3: 1.926 SiO2: 128 H2O. Crystallization of hydrothermal conducted by variation time (12-144 hours) and ratio molar of Si/Al (1; 1.2 and 1.4). The result XRD analysis showed that kinds form of zeolite is mixture of zeolite A, X, P and sodalite. The most form dominant of Zeolite with various variations condition hydrothermal is zeolite A with orthorombik structure which was formed at hydrothermal temperature of 160°C during 24 hours.

Abstract

Mesoporous ZSM-5 has been successfully synthesized at various aging time of 6, 12 and 24 h. Mesoporous ZSM-5 was synthesized using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTABr) as a template. Synthesis was carried out hydrothermally with aging and crystallization temperature at 60oC and 150oC. XRD patterns of the resulted material showed diffraction lines at 2θ = 23o and at small angle (2θ < 5o) which is characteristic of the structure of ZSM-5 and the existing of the mesoporous material. It was found that crystallinity of the sample increased at longer aging time. The result of nitrogen gas sorption analysis showed that all samples have pore size about 3,8 nm. The porosity of ZSM-5 decreased with shorter of aging time. ZSM-5 synthesized at 6 h aging time has the highest porosity of 72.57%. Aging time also affected the particle size, the longer the aging time, the smaller the particle size. The particle size was ranging 1.25 – 1.0 μm.

Abstract

Phase transformation of rice husk ash in the synthesis of ZSM-5 without organic template at various crystallization times has been studied. Zeolite has been synthesized using the hydrothermal method at 175 °C with molar ratio 10Na2O : 100SiO2 : 2Al2O3 : 1800H2O with addition of silicalite-1 as seed. Solids were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared (IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Analysis of the results of XRD and IR spectroscopy indicated that ZSM-5 crystalstarted to form at 12 h of crystallization time, reaching high crystallinity after 24 h. With a crystallization time of more than 48 h, the ZSM-5 crystals had completely transformed into more stable quartz phase. Results indicated that phase transformation has occurred, in which an amorphous phase of rice husk ash has been transformed to ZSM-5 crystal phase during the early crystallization stage and continued to transform to disordered α-cristobalite phase and lastly quartz phases. SEM showed that the morphology of the ZSM-5 crystal was of an irregular hexagonal shape with particle size distribution around 3-7 μm.

Abstract

Titanium oxide (TiO2) was impregnated on the surface of titanosilicate-1 (TiO2/TS-1) and used as catalyst for hydroxylation of phenol with hydrogen peroxide. Calcination was conducted at various temperatures (400, 500, 600 and 700°C)in order to observe the effect on the structure and physicochemical properties towards catalytic activity for producing hydroquinone. The structure and physicochemical properties of the TiO2/TS-1 catalyst were characterized by several techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption, pyridine adsorption and hydrophilic measurement. The results show that by increasing the calcination temperature, the surface acidity of the catalyst was also increased.TheTiO2/TS-1 catalyst calcined at 500°Cproved to be optimal for hydroquinone production, in which the anatase-rutile phase may be present dispersed on the MFI framework.

Abstract

Municipal solid waste (MSW) is a type of general waste that includes households, traditional markets, commercial areas, and the rest from public facilities, schools, offices, roads, and so on. Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) is obtained from the remnants of MSW which cannot be used anymore, which is flammable waste and is separated from parts that are difficult to burn through the process of chopping, sifting, and air classification. RDF has potential as an alternative energy source. In this study, RDF fuel was compared with MSW fuel both by proximate and calorific value, then the gasification process was carried out using a multi-stage downdraft gasifier to see gasification performance indicators such as syngas composition, LHV, cold gas efficiency, and tar concentration. The results showed that the gasification performance indicator for MSW biomass resulted in the syngas composition of CO = 19.08% v, H2 = 10.89% v, and CH4 = 1.54% v. The calorific value (Low Heating Value, LHV ) of syngas is 4,137 kJ/kg, cold gas efficiency is 70.14%, and tar content is 57.29 mg/Nm3. Meanwhile, RDF obtained the composition of CO gas: 18.68% v, H2: 9.5446% v, and CH4: 0% v. The maximum LHV syngas is 3365.08 kJ/kg, cold gas efficiency is 57.19 % and the smallest tar content is 80.24 mg/Nm3. When compared to RDF, MSW produces a better gasification performance indicator. However, RDF can still be used as an alternative energy source using the gasification process. The results of this study can be used to optimize the further RDF gasification process.

Abstract

Conversion of fly ash into geopolymers is one of the right ways to reduce the problem of coal ash waste which is hazardous and poisonous waste while its production continues to increase every year. In this study, fly ash from Pacitan power plant, Semen Gresik, Petrokimia Gresik, and Australia were used as the raw materials for making geopolymers. The geopolymers were made based on previous research. Geopolymer compressive strength that was measured at 7 days after curing was 46.71; 42.6; 42.6; 9.55 MPa, respectively. Analyses of phase composition and crystallinity, morphology and particle size and composition of fly ash constituents showed that the factor that had the strongest influence in this study was the size of fly ash particles. Fly ash with the largest particle size produces geopolymers with the lowest compressive strength. High calcium content produces a short setting time and all geopolymers that have high compressive strength are made from fly ash with a high content of Fe2O3

Abstract

Methane as a light gas was generally found in natural gas which was burned freely to gain a high quality of petroleum. This action truly impacted a worst condition in nature, namely greenhouse effect. This brief review described fundamental theory of the important process in methane conversion from natural gas into value-added chemical such as syngas (CO+H2). The methane conversion reaction was commonly divided into direct and indirect reaction. The indirect reaction such as partial oxidation of methane was mostly chosen due to the intermediate product (syngas) can easily generate many raw materials of petrochemicals. This paper also described a potential catalyst to be applied which in heterogeneous type such as perovskite oxide, metal oxide and zeolite.
