Abstract

Stunting is a condition that occurs as the result of the disruption in the growth of height due to poor nutrition intake and nutrition status, repeated incidence of infection and inadequate psychosocial stimulation. In year 2017, the prevalence status for stunting incindence in Indonesia is categorized as high, reaching at 29,6%. This study was conducted to determine the correlation between nutritional intake of protein, calcium and zinc with the incidence of stunting. This study was an observational analytic research with a case control method, conducted to determine the correlation between exposure of risk factors and disease by comparing stunting groups with non-stunting groups. This study obtained a relation between depleted calcium intake and stunting incidence using the Fisher’s Exact test with a p value of 0.001 and odd ratio 0.056. A significant correlation of insufficient calcium intake with the incidence of stunting was found, yet there were no correlation between insufficient protein and zinc intake with the incidence of stunting. Abstract

The need for nutrients intake during pregnancy is very important to determine the quality of a child in the future. Several micronutrients take a key role for stimulating the immune system . Zinc is the most important one. This study aims to evaluate the effect of multi micronutrient (MMN) on immunoglobulin G levels of the anemic pregnant women in Second trimester, compared to iron folic acid (IFA). A single blind randomized controlled trial was conducted in Surabaya City. The samples size of 30 pregnant women were randomly allocated into two groups or 15 pregnant women in each group. Control group received iron folic acid , and the treatment group received multi micronutrient UNIMMAP formula. Either IFA or MMN was consumed daily for one month. Statistics analysis was done using Chi square test on data (age, education, income), paired t test , independent t test and the data are not normally distributed then use Mann Whitney. The results showed no significant difference in immunoglobulin G level between the two groups. It can be concluded that the administration of multiple micronutrients (MMN) cannot increase immunoglobulin G in pregnant women with anemia, this is probably due to consumption of macro nutrients that are poor compared to daily needs during pregnancy.

Abstract

Introduction: Low birth weight (LBW)  is one of the main risk factors for neonatal morbidity and mortality. Anemia in developing countries is still quite high compared to developed countries. Low hemoglobin levels in pregnancy can affect the birth of low birth weight babies. Methods: This study used a systematic review method. Studies published between 2015 and 2019. Search for articles was reviewed systematically through Scopus, ScienceDirect, Cochrane, and PubMed databases. The final results obtained 10 articles following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Calculation result using Meta-Analysis with help of Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. Results: Compare the odds ratio and confidence interval of hemoglobin levels compared to low birth weight events. The results obtained OR 1.449 (95% CI 0.964 – 2.177) and p-Value 0.074 so that there is no relationship of hemoglobin levels in pregnant women ≤ 11gr / dL with the incidence of low birth weight babies. In the heterogeneity test results, I-Squared results obtained by 79.191%, which indicates the value of I-squared heterogeneity> 50% so that the sample used is heterogeneous. Maternal age less than 20 years or more than 35 years, number of parity, pregnancy spacing, and number of problems in the assessment of pregnancy and previous labor. Conclusion: There is no correlation between low maternal hemoglobin levels with the incidence of low birth weight because there are other factors that can affect outcomes such as different respondent characteristics, number of samples, different research countries, different trimester of pregnancy and other factors that can cause research bias.
