Abstract

Thisresearch tries to analyze the implementation of religious character education in history subjects among Grade X IIS students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak. Religious character education is essential in shaping a generation that excels not only in knowledge and skills but also in moral integrity. The study takes a descriptive qualitative method, gathering data through observation, interviews, and recording. The findings reveal that history teachers have effectively designed and implemented learning activities based on religious values using lesson plans (RPP), while also cultivating religious habits among students, such as reciting the Qur"™an (tadarus), praying together, and demonstrating respectful behavior in the classroom. The school also supports character development through various programs rooted in Islamic values. However, challenges remain in implementing religious character education, particularly due to the limited instructional time for history subjects, which is only two hours per week. This constraint reduces the teacher's ability to consistently monitor students' religious behavior. As a solution, the history teacher and the school have developed a historical excursion program to visit historical sites, including places of worship, to instill religious values in a contextual manner. Overall, implementing religious character education at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak is progressing well but still requires strong collaboration among teachers, the school, students, and parents for optimal outcomes.

Abstract

The rapid transformation of education in the digital era has created an urgent need to reexamine history teaching methods to ensure their relevance to the needs of today’s learners. This study aims to investigate the implementation of digital technology in history education in secondary schools in Pontianak, focusing on its impact on student engagement, the challenges encountered, and the opportunities that can be leveraged to enhance learning effectiveness. The research subjects consisted of history teachers and students from four public high schools, selected through purposive sampling based on their experience in integrating technology into history instruction. This research employed a qualitative phenomenological design, with data collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and learning documentation. The findings indicate that the use of technologies such as documentary videos, historical simulations, and digital learning platforms enhances students' engagement with historical content, enabling them to learn more interactively and independently. Identified challenges include inadequate infrastructure, limited digital literacy, and unequal access to technological resources. Nevertheless, digital platforms and technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) offer considerable opportunities to enrich historical learning experiences through their flexibility and immersive potential. The study recommends enhancing technological infrastructure, offering ongoing professional development for teachers, and implementing policies that promote equitable access to technology to optimize the digital transformation of history education.

Abstract

Transformative Curriculum: Concepts, Implementation, and Challenges in History Education. Objectives: This study is designed to investigate the Transformative Curriculum's concept and implementation in the field of history education, as well as to pinpoint the obstacles that teachers and students face when implementing it in secondary schools. This research offers a comprehensive analysis of the Indonesian secondary education system's interpretation, practice, and challenge of Transformative Curriculum, unlike previous studies that primarily concentrated on curriculum theory or case studies in Western contexts. It emphasizes the local pedagogical, cultural, and policy-related dynamics that influence its implementation. Method: A qualitative approach with a phenomenological design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and students, classroom observations in history lessons, and document analysis. Findings: The results suggest that the Transformative Curriculum's implementation fosters students' reflective thinking, the development of empathy and awareness of social issues, and the connection between historical events and contemporary social contexts. Nevertheless, its implementation is impeded by a variety of challenges, such as inadequate learning resources, inadequate teacher training, and a curriculum structure that continues to prioritize rote memorization.. Conclusion: The Transformative Curriculum has the potential to significantly improve the critical and contextual comprehension of history among students. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the interaction between transformative learning theory and Indonesian cultural norms (e.g., reverence for authority, exam-oriented education) and by providing context-sensitive strategies for cultivating reflective historical thinking. Consequently, in order to optimize its implementation, educational policies should provide support for the continuous development of critical reflection-based learning resources and teacher training. Keywords: transformative curriculum, history education, critical thinking, social awareness, reflective learning.

Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of using Canva-based videos on student learning outcomes in Class VII SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak, especially on Social Interaction material. This research uses a quantitative approach with an experimental design involving two groups: a control group (using print media) and an experimental group (using Canva-based video media). The results showed that the Wilcoxon test produced a significant value of 0.445 (greater than 0.05), which indicated there was no significant effect. However, this research also shows that there is a significant impact on learning using Canva-based videos, which can be seen from the paired sample t-test with an asymp sig (2-tailed) significance value of 0.001, which means less than 0.05. This research also shows the importance of using Canva media in learning, with an effect size of 0.518, which shows a moderate influence.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of Experiential Learning in enhancing students' historical thinking skills. Historical thinking is a critical competency that enables students to analyze, interpret, and critically evaluate historical events, moving beyond rote memorization. However, history education in Indonesia is predominantly lecture-based, limiting student engagement and analytical skill development. This research adopts a qualitative case study approach conducted at a high school in Pontianak, involving history teachers and students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that Experiential Learning, through methods such as historical field trips, reenactments, and project-based learning, significantly improves students' chronological understanding, awareness of historical causation, and empathy for historical figures. The study also identifies challenges, including resource constraints and the need for more effective instructional strategies. The research concludes that Experiential Learning promotes a deeper, more meaningful understanding of history, empowering students to construct knowledge through firsthand experiences actively. Future research should focus on developing scalable models for integrating Experiential Learning in diverse educational settings.
