Abstract

Acacia sp. is widely cultivated in Indonesia's Industrial Plantation Forests (HTI), but orangutan attacks pose a significant threat to its sustainability. If not addressed, these disturbances can lead to substantial losses in Acacia cultivation, reducing the supply of industrial raw materials and hindering economic opportunities for local communities reliant on HTI development. This research aims to identify effective policy scenarios to mitigate the impact of orangutan attacks while ensuring the protection of these legally safeguarded primates. Utilizing the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), insights were gathered from five experts through questionnaires and interviews, with data analyzed using Expert Choice 11 software. The research focused on PT. 'XX" Pengadan Village, Karangan District, East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan. Based on this research, it was found that a stakeholder commitment approach is vital for managing orangutan interactions. Prioritizing the provision, management, and enrichment of conservation areas can help minimize attacks and support both orangutan conservation and the sustainability of Acacia sp. plantations. This balanced strategy aims to secure habitats for orangutans while safeguarding local livelihoods and promoting sustainable HTI practices.

Abstract

The Heat Shock Protein 70 (HSP70) gene, specifically the 3-Untranslated Region (3-UTR), is critical for regulating mRNA stability and translation under heat stress. This study aimed to identify genetic polymorphisms in the 3-UTR of the HSP70 gene in Moa buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) and evaluate its potential role in heat adaptation. A total of 65 hair follicle samples (55 Moa buffalo and 10 Banten buffalo) were collected, followed by amplification by PCR and sequencing of the PCR product of the 3'-UTR regions. Alignment results from the 3'-UTR region showed the presence of 2 major polymorphic SNPs, i.e g.1904C>A, and g.1910A>G. SNP (g.1904C>A) was found to be a cytosine (C) to adenine (A) substitution mutation type, and SNP g.1910A>G an adenine (A) to guanine (G) substitution. The discovery of 2 SNPs in the 3-UTR of the HSP70 gene in Moa buffalo is very important for the development of genetic markers, helping to understand the mechanism of heat adaptation, to the conservation and improvement of livestock performance, especially Moa buffalo living in tropical environments.

Abstract

Assessment is a critical subsystem in the overall learning process. However, teachers still face challenges in developing assessments, particularly those that align with Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The results of a needs analysis indicated that teachers at the partner schools require urgent training and guidance in creating both formative and summative assessment instruments. The Community Service Program (PkM) was conducted at SD Negeri Marga Mulya VI, Bekasi City. The PkM activities were based on the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach and consisted of six stages. The outcomes of this PkM activity include: (1) the successful implementation of training and assistance in the development of assessment instruments, enabling teachers to understand and create assessment tools; (2) the creation of assessment instruments by teachers, which can now be utilized in the learning process; and (3) positive responses from teachers, who reported that the PkM activities significantly benefited them in preparing and applying assessments in teaching. The outcomes of this PkM initiative can be further followed up through discussions and dissemination within the school's Learning Community to deepen understanding.
