Abstract

Strong social capital is key to increasing the empowerment of farmers and the effectiveness of farmer groups in facing various structural challenges in the agricultural sector, including weak institutional capacity, land fragmentation, and low levels of trust at the rural level. This study aims to determine the level of farmers' social capital, the role of farmer groups, and the relationship between social capital and the role of farmer groups in the development of rice farmers in Kasumeia Village, Konawe Regency. The population size of each farmer group varied, so the sample size was determined using purposive sampling. Three farmers were selected as samples from each farmer group, consisting of the farmer group leader, an active farmer, and a passive farmer. A total of nine farmers were selected as respondents for the study, three farmers from each farmer group. Data collection for the research was carried out using several methods, namely a survey method using questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The variables in this study included social capital and the role of farmer groups. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis methods. The results showed that the social capital of farmers in Kasumeia Village was relatively high, particularly in terms of trust, social networks, and social norms or values. Farmer groups in Kasumeia Village have played a significant role as learning classes and vehicles for cooperation. However, the role of groups as production units still faces challenges in terms of resource management efficiency, market access, and information distribution. There is a significant (0.005) and strong (0.681) relationship between farmers' social capital and the role of farmer groups. Social capital such as trust, norms, and networks has proven to be a determining factor that strengthens cooperation and the effectiveness of farmer group functions. However, despite this strong relationship, the implementation of farmer group functions has not been fully maximized because there are still members who participate only to a limited extent.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of farmer groups and the capacity of wetland rice farmers in Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The population of this study comprised 27 individuals who engaged in wet-rice farming and were members of the farmer group in Wawoone Village. The research sample was determined using the census method. The data were collected using survey techniques, documentation, and interviews with the use of questionnaires. The present study will investigate the role of farmer groups and the capacity of wetland rice farmers. The results demonstrated that the role of farmer groups and the capacity of wet-rice farmers in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Wawoone Village, South Wawonii District, Konawe Islands Regency have each been implemented quite well. A close relationship is exhibited by the role of farmer groups and the capacity of wet-rice farmers in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Wawoone Village, as evidenced by a correlation coefficient value of 0.774. The efficacy of farmer groups is directly correlated with the capacity of wet-rice farmers to implement IPM.

Abstract

Agriculture, particularly the cultivation of rice in Southeast Sulawesi, plays a pivotal role in ensuring national food security and driving economic growth. However, the decline in production in Mondoke Village is indicative of the limited empowerment of farmers, which can be attributed to a number of factors, including inadequate awareness, insufficient assistance, an insufficient readiness to face obstacles, and a lack of cooperation within farmer groups. The objective of this study is to ascertain the extent of rice farmers' empowerment in Mondoke Village, Lambandia District, East Kolaka Regency. The research population consists of 50 rice farmers who are members of farmer groups in Mandoke Village. The research sample was obtained through the census method.  The data collection techniques employed in this study included in-depth interviews, documentation review, and survey questionnaires. The independent variable in this study was farmer empowerment. The data were processed using class interval and percentage formulas, and then analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The findings indicated that the empowerment of rice farmers in Mondoke Village fell within the moderate category. Some farmers exhibited high levels of awareness, training, and social networks, while others demonstrated limitations in terms of access, assistance, and technology application. While awareness and a readiness to change were found to be quite high, the effectiveness of the empowerment initiative was found to be hindered by an absence of sustainable external support. The capacity to augment capacity and gain access indicates that training is not yet fully relevant and ongoing, while market and technology access has been utilized individually rather than collectively. The capacity to surmount impediments remains limited due to inadequate planning, adaptation, and joint implementation. Despite the existence of practices involving the sharing of information and experiences among farmers, optimal levels of solidarity and cooperation have yet to be achieved. This is primarily due to the absence of coordination among farmer groups and the lack of a synchronized planting schedule.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the correlation between farmer capacity and the efficacy of rice farming in Labulu-Bulu Village, Parigi District, Muna Regency. The population under study consists of 324 rice farmers residing in Labulu-Bulu Village. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 15%, resulting in a sample of 39 respondents. The present study employs a quantitative research method. The data collection techniques employed in this study encompassed a range of methods, including in-depth interviews, documentation analysis, systematic literature reviews, and the administration of surveys. The research variables of interest were farmer capacity and the success of rice farming. The analysis was executed through the implementation of quantitative inferential analysis, specifically non-parametric statistics. The results of the study show that the capacity of rice farmers is proven to be in the high category, both in terms of knowledge, attitude, and skills, thereby supporting the success of rice farming, which is also in the high category in terms of social, economic, and environmental dimensions. The relationship between farmer capacity and farming success shows a moderate correlation, which means that the higher the capacity of farmers in managing their farms, the greater the success achieved. The success of farming is not only determined by production factors, but also by the capacity of individual farmers, which includes the ability to adapt to technological changes, sustainable resource management, and the application of environmentally friendly agricultural practices. Improving farmer capacity is key to promoting the success of rice farming, which is not only oriented towards production but also towards socio-economic sustainability and environmental preservation.

Abstract

Rice is a major food commodity that plays a vital role in Indonesia's food security, but its productivity in Ronta Village is still low due to farmers' limited ability to manage rice farming. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of farmers in rice farming activities in Ronta Village, Bonogunu District, North Buton Regency. The research population consisted of all paddy farmers in Ronta Village, totaling 14 farmers. The sample was determined using the census method. Research data were collected using interviews, documentation, and surveys using questionnaires. The variables observed in this study were farmers' capabilities, specifically their knowledge and skills in paddy farming. The collected data was then processed using quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that rice farmers in Ronta Village had high knowledge and skills in rice cultivation, including land preparation, seedling cultivation, planting, fertilization, irrigation, and harvesting. The farmers' knowledge was in the good category (100%), as demonstrated by their understanding of cultivation techniques and the use of high-quality seeds, while the skills of the majority of farmers (85.71%) were classified as skilled with the appropriate application of modern and traditional methods. The farmers' capabilities are an important asset for increasing the productivity and efficiency of farming.
