Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of adding various concentrations of palm fruit mesocarp (Borassus flabellifer) extract to Beltsville Thawing Solution (BTS) diluents on the viability of swines cauda epididymis spermatozoa at 13°C for 4 days. During the storage period, the metabolic activity of spermatozoa will produce free radicals which can reduce spematozoa viability. Borassus flabellifer mesocarp extract contains antioxidants that can counteract free radicals. Testicular and epididymal samples from the 3-4 years old Duroc Landrace Swine Crossbreed. Swine cauda epididymis were obtained from the Oeba Abattoir, Kupang. Cauda epididymis spermatozoa were collected using a combination of incision, rinsing and suppression methods then collected and diluted using BTS and divided into four groups to be given various concentrations of Borassus flabellifer mesocarp extract (K0: without extract; K1: 0.01%; K2: 0.03%; and K3: 0.05 %) and preserved at 13°C for 4 days. Evaluation of spermatozoa viability was carried out microscopically. The results of cauda epididymis sperm viability were K0 = 43.57%; K1 = 54.81%; K2 = 50.52%; and K3 = 49.95%. Analysis of variance showed that the addition Borassus flabellifer mesocarp extract gave a significant difference (P> 0.05) to spermatozoa viability. The Duncan region test showed a significant difference (P <0.05) between treatment K1 with treatments K0, K2 and K3 on the viability of spermatozoa. The conclusions of this study was the addition of Borassus flabellifer mesocarp extract at 0.01% concentration was the most appropriate dose to maintain the viability of swine cauda epididymis spermatozoa. Keywords: Borassus flabellifer, Cauda Epididymal, Mesocarp Extract, Spermatozoa, Swine.

Abstract

Worm disease is a disease caused by infestation of worms in the body of animals with minimal risk to cause death, but causes losses in the form of decreased body weight, milk production, body resistance to other diseases and stunted growth, especially goats at a young age. Population of goats in Lampung Province is the third largest position in Indonesia that it is important to know the effects that can be caused due to intestinal worms. The purpose of this study was to determine the ratio of goat body weight infestated by various types of intestinal worms so that the researchers knew the impact of digestive tract worms infestation on goat body weight. The study was conducted in the period July - October 2018 in the Budi Lestari Livestock Group, Gedong Tataan, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province. The type of goat used in the study was the Etawa Breeders Goat. The method is a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments, namely the group of uninfested goats (P1); goat infested with 1 type of worm (P2); goat infested with 2 types of worms (P3); goats infected with 3 types of worms (P4); and goats infected with 4 types of worms (P5). Implementation procedures were (1) conducting a survey of PE goat populations; (2) Determining the age of PE goats; (3) Taking feces; (4) Identifying worm eggs (Mc Master Test and Sedimentation Test); (5) Determine samples; (6) Considering body weights; (7) Data tabulation and analysis. Data analysis was carried out using One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) method at a 95% confidence level with SPSS 24 software program, if there were significant differences then proceed with the Least Significant Differences (LSD) and Duncan Test. The results of the data analysis showed that there were no significant differences between treatments (p> 0.05), but based on the average data of PE goats body weight from various treatments the highest in the treatment group that did not infest worm infestation (P1) was 25.25 kg, continued to decline respectively P2 (19.00 kg), P3 (18.25 kg), P4 (16.00 kg), P5 (15.25 kg). Abstract

The aim of this study was analyzed the effort to implement the integration of aquaponic technology in conventional fish cultivation. The study was conducted for 6 months (May - October 2021) in the Mandiri Sentosa fish farming unit in Marga Agung Village, Jati Agung District, South Lampung Regency. Experimental research with quantitative methods with descriptive analysis of two treatments is the analysis of the feasibility of catfish cultivation business that has not been integrated with Aquaponik technology (P0) and which has been integrated with Aquaponic technology (P1). Each treatment pool with a 2,000 catfish density with 5-7 cm/fish marked size was maintained for 3 months for harvest. The integration of aquaponic technology in the treatment pool (P1) with the number of vegetable seeds of lettuce was 100 seeds per treatment pool. Quantitative method was doing by business analysis to determine the activities of catfish cultivation business (Clarias sp.) Has benefits and deserves to be developed from the parameters of business cost analysis, depreciation, acceptance analysis, net cash flow (net cash flow), R/C ratio, B/C ratio, Break-Even Point (BEP), Payback Period. The conclusion of this research was the farming business based on aquaponic technology in Catfish (Clarias sp.) cultivation was profitable business or very suitable to be developed.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of black cumin (Nigella sativa) supplementation through drinking water on the histology of broiler chickens’ small intestine and large intestine. The research was conducted from April-September 2020 in a cage facility of the Integrated Field Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. This research used a completely randomized design with four treatment groups and three replications (five broilers per replication) with a total of 60 male broilers. The treatments were drinking water without Black Cumin (P0, control); drinking water with Black Cumin 36 mg/kg BW/day (P1); 72 mg/kg BW/day (P2); and 144 mg/kg BW/day (P3). Three broilers from each group were randomly necropsied at 31 days old, and samples of the small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) and large intestine were fixed with 10% formalin solution and sent to the Lampung Disease Investigation Center for histological preparations. The observation of preparations was carried out microscopically using the Leica DM500® Binocular Microscope to accurately calculate various parameter sizes. The results were analyzed statistically with one way Analysis of Variance at significant level 5% and if proven significant, then a Tukey test was conducted. The results of this study were that the supplementation of black cumin 72 mg/kg BW/day through drinking water could significantly increase (P0.05) 1) the average sizes of villi height and villi area of small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum) and large intestine (colon) of broiler chickens; 2) the average sizes of basal villi width, villi apex width, and gland diameter of broiler duodenum; and 3) the average size of apex villi width of broiler colon. The conclusion of this study was the supplementation of black cumin at dose of 72 mg/kg BW/day through drinking water could increase the histological sizes of the small intestine and large intestine of broilers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Azolla microphylla  flour supplementation in broiler feed rations on body weight, total blood plasma protein and total broiler carcass microbial contamination. The study was conducted for 6 months (May-October 2022) in the broiler cage unit at the Integrated Field Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. This experimental study used four treatments and five replications. Each replicate consisted of five Cobb CP 707broiler strains, bringing a total of 100 broilers. Giving Azolla microphylla flour as a supplement is added to the feed ration with different doses according to broiler body weight, namely P0: ration without Azolla microphylla flour supplementation (control); P1: ration supplemented with 2.5% Azolla microphylla flour; P2 5%; P3 7.5%. Sampling of carcasses and blood serum of 29-day-old broilers was 1 broiler per replication with a total of 20 samples. Samples were sent to the Lampung Veterinary Center to be analyzed for total meat microbial contamination (total plate count) and total plasma protein in blood serum. Data from the test results are arranged in a simple tabular form to be analyzed descriptively. The conclusion of this study wassupplementation with 5% Azolla microphyllaflour in rations were effective to increase body weight gain, maintain total blood plasma protein within the normal range, and maintain total broiler carcass microbial contamination within safe limits for consumption.

Abstract

Aims of this study were 1) to determine the effect of beef price, other goods prices, and consumer tastes on the amount of beef demand and 2) to determine the market structure of the beef trade industry in Bandar Lampung City. The analytical method used was multiple linear regression with variables : the beef price of, other goods price, and consumer tastes. The variable price of beef has a t-statistic value (2.222) The variable price of other goods has a t-statistic value (2.379)> t-table (1.664) and the consumer taste variable has a t-statistic value (9,565) > t-table (1.664). The three variables have a t-statistic value > t-table (1.664) and the results of F-statistics (33.884) > F-table (2.49), so the results of this study indicate that together the variable price of beef, the price of other goods and consumer tastes have a positive and significant effect on beef demand in Bandar Lampung City and based on the results of the Relative Mean Deviation Intercept on beef trade in the market of Bandar Lampung City by 44.23%, with the rule of decision 42.54%, The market structure of the beef trading business in the Bandar Lampung City market is classified as a Monopolistic Competition Market

Abstract

The research was conducted at Jati Agung District Lampung Selatan Regency on December 2019, aimed to know infestation levels of gastrointestinal helminths on Mud Bufallo. The research used cencus method. Data collection has been done by taking all faecal samples from 80 Mud Bufallo at 6 village in Jati Agung District. Faecal samples examination checked with Mc. Master and Sendimentation test at Lampung Veterinary Hall. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that of the 80 buffalo faeces samples examined, 23 samples (28.75%) were positively infested with gastrointestinal helminths in both single and multi-species infestations. The highest infestation found in Sinar Rejeki village about 100% and the lowest infestation found in Jatimulyo village about 18,51%. Helmiths species that found in Mud Bufallo are from Trematode class (Paramphistomum sp.) Nematode class (Toxocara sp., Bunostomum sp., Strongyloides sp., Haemonchus sp., Oesophagustomum sp., Trichostrongylus sp., and Mecistocirrus sp.), and Cestode class (Moniezia sp.).

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh suplementasi Vitamin E, Selenium dan Zinc dalam air minum terhadap berbagai parameter histomorfometri usus halus broiler. Penelitian dilaksanakan selama 30 hari (Juni-Juli 2021) di unit peternakan broiler di Desa Adimulyo, Gading Rejo, Pesawaran, Lampung. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap, 5 kelompok perlakuan dengan 5 ulangan setiap kelompok. Setiap ulangan terdiri dari 5 ekor broiler, sehingga total 125 ekor broiler. Suplementasi Vitamin E, Selenium dan Zinc pada air minum dengan 5 perlakuan dosis berbeda yaitu air minum tanpa Vitamin E, Selenium dan Zinc (P0); air minum yang mengandung Vitamin E, Selenium dan Zinc dengan dosis 0,5 g/30 kg BB/hari (P1); 1 gr/30 kg BB/hari (P2); 1,5 g/30 kg BB/hari (P3); dan 2 g/30 kg BB/hari (P4), tiap gramnya mengandung Vitamin E 40 IU, Selenium 0,4 mg dan Zinc 160 mg. Lima ekor ayam broiler per kelompok diambil secara acak dan dilakukan nekropsi pada umur 31 hari, diambil sampel usus halusnya, difiksasi dengan formalin 10% dan dibuat preparat histologi di Balai Veteriner Lampung. Pengamatan menggunakan Mikroskop Binokuler Leica DM500® yang terhubung dengan layar dan komputer untuk menghitung berbagai parameter histomorfometri pada usus halus broiler. Data hasil pengukuran rata-rata dianalisis menggunakan one way ANOVA yang dilanjutkan dengan uji Tukey. Hasil penelitian yaitu P3 mempunyai pengaruh yang signifikan (P<0,05) terhadap peningkatan ukuran kedalaman kripta duodenum; P2 berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap peningkatan ukuran lebar apex vili ileum; P1 berpengaruh signifikan (P<0,05) terhadap peningkatan kedalaman kripta ileum. Kesimpulan penelitian ini bahwa suplementasi Vitamin E, Selenium dan Zinc pada air minum dapat meningkatkan ukuran kedalaman kripta duodenum dan ileum serta lebar vili apex ileum broiler. Kata kunci: Histomorfometri, Selenium, Usus Halus Broiler, Vitamin E, Zinc.

Abstract

Daging ayam merupakan salah satu sumber protein yang digemari karena rasanya yang lezat, kandungan gizinya tinggi, dan harganya terjangkau. Ayam dapat menderita cekaman panas dan melepaskan berbagai jenis senyawa biokimia yang menyebabkan peningkatan jumlah radikal bebas. Antioksidan merupakan zat alami yang berperan mencegah atau memperlambat kerusakan sel-sel tubuh yang diakibatkan oleh radikal bebas. Tanaman Sambiloto memiliki kandungan antioksidan didalamnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji pengaruh pemberian sediaan cair Sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata) melalui air minum broiler terhadap cemaran Escherichia coli, Coliform, dan Total Cemaran Mikroba dalam daging broiler. Perlakuan diberikan selama 30 hari dengan 5 kelompok perlakuan dan 5 ulangan. Suplementasi Sambiloto sebagai immunomodulator diberikan dengan dosis berbeda sesuai bobot badan (BB) broiler, yaitu air minum tanpa Sambiloto (kontrol) (P0); air minum dengan 3mg Sambiloto/kg BB (P1); 6mg Sambiloto/kg BB (P2); 12mg Sambiloto/kg BB (P3); 24mg Sambiloto/kg BB (P4). Hasil pengujian menunjukkan sampel memenuhi persyaratan karkas yang berkualitas, aman, sehat, utuh dan halal sesuai SNI 7388:2009. Pemberian sediaan cair Sambiloto melalui air minum broiler dapat meningkatkan stamina dan daya tahan ayam terhadap infeksi dan kondisi lingkungan yang tidak mendukung selama pemeliharaannya, terutama pada saat terjadi cekaman panas yang dapat mengakibatkan stress dan menurunkan imunitas sehingga akan mempengaruhi kesehatan ayam maupun kualitas karkas yang dihasilkan. Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan pemahaman peternak dalam hal tatalaksana reproduksi, kesehatan dan sanitasi kandang pada pemeliharaan ternak sapi potong. Sasaran kegiatan yaitu masyarakat tani peternak Pemangku IV Purworejo, Subhan Ilir,  Pekon Tambak Jaya, Kecamatan Way Tenong, Kabupaten Lampung Barat yang tergabung dalam Kelompok Usaha Bersama Jadi Rejo. Metode kegiatan yaitu 1) Diseminasi meliputi kegiatan penyuluhan dan diskusi mengenai manajemen kesehatan, reproduksi, dan sanitasi kandang sapi; 2) Penerapan program sanitasi kandang dengan desinfeksi kandang; dan 3) Pemeriksaan kesehatan, pengobatan, pemeriksaan kebuntingan dan penanganan gangguan kesehatan dan reproduksi ternak sapi potong secara massal. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan untuk mengetahui respon peserta penyuluhan terhadap pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian dengan cara membandingkan perubahan nilai pada evaluasi awal (pre-test) dan evaluasi akhir (post-test). Hasil kegiatan pengabdian yaitu Hasil kegiatan pengabdian yaitu 1) peningkatan pengetahuan peternak tentang reproduksi dari 35,52% (rendah) menjadi 90,79% (tinggi), kesehatan ternak dari 52,63% (sedang) menjadi 84,21% (tinggi), dan sanitasi kandang dari 39,47% (rendah) menjadi 94,74% (tinggi); 2) pemeriksaan kesehatan dan pengobatan massal pada delapan puluh Sembilan ekor sapi milik peternak, dan 3) kegiatan sanitasi kandang berupa penyemprotan larutan desinfektan pada 1 kandang koloni dan 20 kandang individu peternak. Kesimpulan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini mampu meningkatkan pengetahuan peternak melalui diseminasi manajemen reproduksi, manajemen kesehatan dan manajemen perkandangan serta telah dilakukan upaya meningkatkan status kesehatan ternak sapi potong melalui pengobatan masal dan sanitasi kandang.
