Abstract

Curcuminoids such as curcumin, demethoxycurcumin (DMC), and bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC) are the major bioactive components found in Curcuma species, including turmeric (Curcuma longa L.). Curcumin is a polyphenol that is used as an antioxidant. Various analytical methods have been developed for the detection of curcumin, each with its advantages and limitations. Selection of an appropriate analytical method is crucial for obtaining accurate results. Although critical reviews on the chemical, biological, and pharmacological properties of curcumin are widely available, reviews specifically focusing on the different analytical methods for curcumin are limited. This review article aims to provide an overview of several analytical methods for the determination of curcumin. This is expected to encourage readers to choose a suitable analytical method for their specific needs. The articles used in this review were sourced from international English-language publications obtained from Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The search was performed using keywords such as "Instrumental analysis of curcumin" and "Analytical techniques for curcumin analysis." The results reveal that spectrophotometric methods are simple techniques used to estimate curcumin content; however, their utility is limited to cases where the concentration of each curcuminoid is not a critical quality parameter. Accurate quantification and detection of trace amounts of curcuminoids and metabolites require the use of chromatographic separation methods combined with mass spectrometry detection (LC-MS/MS) because of their high accuracy, reproducibility, and sensitivity with low limits of detection (LOD) and lower limits of quantification (LLOQ). Abstract

The uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in one area of the body can spread to other tissues and create more cancer cells, a disease known as cancer. Malignant cancer cells have the potential to become fatal. After cardiovascular disease, cancer is the second most common cause of mortality. Numerous cancer types exist, including stomach, liver, colorectal, lung, breast, and cervical cancers. More than 70% of cancer-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income nations, and the number of cancer-related deaths is predicted to rise steadily, hitting 11.5 million by 2030. Some of the resources utilized to look up information on curcumin's application as an anticancer agent are PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar. Most of the articles that were used were published between 2013 and 2023, or within the last ten years. These journals were found using the following keywords: "Curcumin," "Cancer," "Curcumin as an Anticancer," and "Utilization of Curcumin as an Anticancer Agent." Scholars from many nations have conducted comparable investigations on the application of curcumin as an anticancer agent. Furthermore, it has been established that curcumin directly inhibits cancer cells when used as an anticancer drug. This suggests that curcumin does have anticancer properties. Abstract

Nanotechnology is defined as engineering the creation of materials, functions, and devices on the nanometer scale. Nanoscience is increasingly developing and becoming a part of various fields, such as electronics, materials, and biology. Lipid nanoparticles are a major application in nanotechnology. In formulas II and III, smaller results were obtained compared with the other formulas. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the nanostructured lipid carrier system with solid lipid poloxamer and stearic acid with liquid soybean oil lipids obtained good characteristics, and each test met the range. From the explanation above, it can be concluded that lipid-based nanotechnology has great potential in various fields such as medicine, cosmetics, and agriculture. Its use can provide great benefits such as increasing the effectiveness of drug administration, increasing the absorption of nutrients in food, and developing cosmetic products. which one is safer and more effective. To compare several types of nanoparticle methods, such as Liposomes, Neosomes, Etosomes, SLN, and NLC for selection of the lipid base, namely NLC. Abstract

Hair loss, or alopecia, is a common dermatological condition that affects up to 2% of the world's population. It is often caused by genetic factors, such as male or female pattern baldness, but can also be attributed to various environmental factors, an imbalanced diet, or chronic illnesses. While hair loss is not life-threatening, it can lead to significant anxiety, depression, and other psychological issues, ultimately affecting one's quality of life. Various treatments for baldness, including synthetic drugs like minoxidil and finasteride, or herbal remedies, have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Although synthetic drugs are effective, they may come with potential side effects. Natural remedies have been proposed as a viable option for treating baldness because many chronic disorders can lead to alopecia. Therefore, this review focuses on identifying efficient alternative treatment agents with limited side effects. Specifically, it considers medicinal plants as potential healing agents for treating baldness. To gather relevant information for this study, several databases were searched, including Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Comprehensive searches were conducted using various search terms, such as "baldness," "alopecia," "natural remedies for baldness," "herbal treatment for baldness," and others, to extract relevant scientific articles. Many medicinal plants and natural compounds have shown potential for reducing baldness, thanks to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Abstract

Jerawat adalah gangguan kulit yang terjadi ketika folikel rambut tersumbat oleh minyak dan sel kulit mati. Bakteri gram positif propionibacterium acnes adalah akar dari jerawat. Propionibacterium acne tumbuh karena akumulasi sebum, yang menyebabkan jerawat. Untuk mengatasi jerawat, berbagai bahan aktif dan metode pengobatan telah dikembangkan. Penghantaran melalui nanoteknologi adalah metode terbaru yang digunakan. Ini dipilih karena kemampuan nanoteknologi untuk meningkatkan stabilitas bahan aktif, meningkatkan penetrasi bahan aktif ke dalam kulit, dan memungkinkan zat aktif dibawa ke area yang ditargetkan. Metode yang digunakan yaitu Artikel ilmiah dikumpulkan dari sumber nasional dan internasional 10 tahun terakhir (2014-2024). Hasil yang ditunjukkan bahwa metode nanopartikel menunjukkan potensi besar sebagai bahan aktif anti jerawat karena ukurannya yang kecil memungkinkan penetrasi kulit lebih baik, pelepasan bahan aktif secara terkendali, dan perlindungan dari degradasi lingkungan. Keberhasilannya terbukti dalam berbagai studi dan uji klinis, dengan penurunan signifikan jerawat dan peningkatan kondisi kulit. Pengembangan terbaru, seperti nanopartikel lipid, nanopartikel polimer, dan nanopartikel metal. Diskusi dalam review artikel ini melakukan pendalaman terhadap pengembangan obat dan sitem penghantaran obat baru, meliputi proses sintesis, karakterisasi, mekanisme kerja, dan hasil uji klinis yang relevan. Penggunaan nanopartikel lipid telah menunjukkan potensi besar sebagai penghantar obat yang efektif,  nanopartikel polimer menawarkan kontrol pelepasan obat yang lebih baik dan nanopartikel logam menawarkan sifat antimikroba intrinsik. dan Kesimpulannya review artikel ini akan mengulas secara menyeluruh berbagai penelitian mengenai penghantaran zat aktif terbarukan melalui nanoteknologi untuk terapi jerawat.

Abstract

Jahe merupakan tanaman yang banyak dibudidayakan di Indonesia. Rimpang jahe diketahui mempunyai banyak khasiatnya terhadap kesehatan. Jahe sering dijumpai dalam racikan  pengobatan Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Hal ini ada kaitannya dengan kandungan antioksidan pada jahe. Tujuan Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan aktivitas antioksidan pada simplisia tiga jenis simplisia jahe (gajah, emprit, merah). Metode Tiga jahe diberikan perlakuan yaitu sortasi basah dan kering, pembuatan simplisia, karakterisasi simplisia, uji aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Hasil rendemen simplisia tiga jahe (gajah 19,00%, emprit 15,26%,  merah 12,61%), pengujian  kadar air simplisia dari tiga jahe (gajah 7,315 %, emprit 7,439%,  merah 8,576 %) selanjutnya pada penentuan uji aktivitas antioksidan jahe gajah 77,03%, jahe emprit 61,91%, jahe merah 67,94%. aktivitas Aktivitas antioksidan dari ketiga jahe  dengan metode DPPH  menunjukkan nilai inhibitory concentration (IC50 ) mempunyai kategori kuat yaitu ada diantara 50-100 µg/ml.

Abstract

Peningkatan prevalensi Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2 di Indonesia memerlukan pengobatan yang efektif untuk mengontrol kadar glukosa darah. Obat antidiabetes oral semakin disukai karena kemudahan penggunaannya, meskipun sering kali menyebabkan fluktuasi kadar glukosa darah. Review artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi sistem pompa osmotik sebagai metode penghantaran obat yang dapat memberikan pelepasan obat yang lebih stabil, meningkatkan bioavailabilitas obat, dan efektivitas terapi. PubMed, Science Direct dan Google scholar adalah beberapa sumber artikel yang digunakan dalam pencarian informasi mengenai sistem penghantaran obat baru untuk antidiabetes oral. Artikel-artikel yang digunakan mayoritas adalah artikel terbaru yang ditulis dalam kurun waktu 10 tahun terakhir yaitu dari tahun 2014-2024. Kata kunci yang digunakan dalam pencarian jurnal-jurnal tersebut adalah "drug design diabetes" “new drug delivery diabetes” “drug delivery system for oral antidiabetes” “osmotic pump capsule”. Melalui pencarian yang komprehensif, 10 artikel yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi dipilih untuk dianalisis. Artikel-artikel ini memberikan wawasan yang berharga mengenai perkembangan terbaru dalam bidang ini, termasuk desain formulasi, evaluasi kinerja, dan potensi klinis. Formulasi yang dioptimalkan menunjukkan laju pelepasan obat yang konstan dan kinerja yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan formulasi yang ada di pasaran, serta meningkatkan bioavailabilitas obat antidiabetes. Pendekatan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan solusi inovatif dalam pengobatan DMT2, dengan potensi untuk meningkatkan efektivitas terapi dan mengurangi frekuensi dosis.

Abstract

Diarrhea is a global health problem that is often caused by bacterial infections, including Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The use of conventional antibiotics in treating diarrhea often faces challenges, such as drug resistance and adverse side effects. As an alternative, current research interest is focused on the use of nanoparticles from herbal ingredients as potential antibacterial agents in the treatment of diarrhea. This review article aims to present the latest developments in the use of herbal nanoparticles as an anti-bacterial therapy for diarrhea. The literature search method was carried out via PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar using relevant keywords. Selected articles must meet inclusion criteria, such as originality, language, period, and availability of full text. After the selection process, articles that meet the criteria will be reviewed to identify findings related to the use of herbal nanoparticles in treating diarrhea. Data analysis was conducted to compare the findings of each article and draw appropriate conclusions. Therefore, this review article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential use of nanoparticles from herbal ingredients as an effective and safe solution to treat diarrhea problems, while also highlighting interesting research possibilities to be carried out in the future. effectiveness and bioavailability in the treatment of diarrhea. Abstract

Kokristalisasi merupakan salah satu teknik yang berkembang dalam modifikasi bahan aktif farmasi untuk meningkatkan karakteristik fisikokimia dari bahan aktif, khususnya yang memiliki kelarutan rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh metode karakterisasi, yaitu Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffractometry (XRD), dan Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), terhadap kualitas kokristal bahan aktif farmasi dari tahun 2015 hingga 2024. Metode penelusuran pustaka dilakukan melalui Google Scholar. Hasil tinjauan literatur menunjukkan bahwa setiap teknik karakterisasi memiliki peran spesifik dalam memahami perubahan struktur dan sifat fisikokimia kokristal, seperti peningkatan kelarutan, stabilitas termal, dan morfologi permukaan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis pustaka, metode FTIR, SEM, XRD, dan DSC memberikan kontribusi penting dalam optimasi kualitas kokristal, yang berpotensi meningkatkan bioavailabilitas dan efektivitas bahan aktif farmasi.

Abstract

Vitamin E acetate has antioxidant activity that can prevent premature aging of the skin, but its nature is very lipophilic (log p±12.2) and has the potential to degrade. To overcome the problems of permeability and stability, vitamin E acetate needs to be developed in Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC), which is a nano delivery system based on solid lipids and liquid lipids stabilized by surfactants as a colloidal system. The formulation of vitamin E acetate into NLC was carried out using the heat homogenization method, then sonicated using a probe sonicator. The materials used were 2% vitamin E acetate, 2-6% Compritol® and Precirol® solid lipids, 1% Myritol®, and 1-3% Chremophore and Plantacare® surfactants. The NLC results were then characterized by measuring particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, entrapment efficiency, and morphology. The characterization results showed that NLC vitamin E acetate had a particle size of 280-375 nm, a zeta potential of -23 mV to -28 mV, a polydispersity index <0.5, an entrapment efficiency of 92-97%, and a spherical morphology. The results showed that Nanostructured Lipid Carrier vitamin E acetate gave good results.
