Abstract

ABSTRACTPeople in Ngadas Village have enough time to live in their fields. Therefore, the community build farmhouses to help farming activities. However, as an agricultural landscape, cultivation in Ngadas Village has various dynamics. Changes that occur in the agricultural landscape can be traced through agricultural features formed by the type of agricultural land use. In addition, it can be traced through cultural features that are the result of interactions between human activities and the environment such as farmhouses. Therefore, this study aims to find out the implications of agricultural features on cultural features, especially space in farmhouses. The in-depth interview and observation methods were conducted to identify, then the data obtained were analysed by synchronous and diachronic methods. So, the changes that occur can be determined descriptively. The results of the study show that the culture of shifting cultivation that has become permanent causes the fields to develop along with the changes in the plants that have been planted, the addition of activities and intensity of plant management. More fixed location of the farm more developed and permanent farmhouses has been built. More activities carried out in the fields and the higher intensity of plant management, the wider and more space needed for the fields. Keywords: Agrarian culture, Agricultural landscape, Farmhouses

Abstract

Aim of this study is to analyze the impact of urban sprawl on the residential and social segregation in western suburb area of Malang city. This research has been conducted through combination of qualitative and quantitative methods or mixed method. Quantitative method was undertook to identify the urban sprawl. Urban sprawl was detected by means of urban morphology approach. Quantitative method was represented by: (1) the processing of Normalized Difference Built up Index to identify the built-up area growth and (2) delineation of residential area types taken from Google earth and ground checking at the study location. Qualitative method was done by using the hermeneutical phenomenology to investigate the social segregation. Research’s result showed that there is urban sprawl, impacting on spatial structure changes. Spatial structure has been shown by the alteration of non-built-up areas into planned settlements separated from village, further referred as residential segregation. Residential segregation shows that there is social segregation between the migrants and natives in western suburb area of Malang city. This research concludes that the urban sprawl has implication on shifting process of rural to suburb area. However, the shifting process does not impact on systematic social dimension between the migrants and natives.

Abstract

Kata kunci:  Relasi, Fungsi  dan bentuk, Ekspresi, Sakralitas, Gereja Katolik ABSTRACT: The phenomenon of fading off form “sakralitas” of Catholic Church in the world has worried Paus Benedictus. Evidently, this phenomenon had been happened to Catholic Church in Indonesia, particularly Jakarta. Generally, problem has been occurred from this phenomenon is because there is no well relation between activities function with the form as well as the appearance meaning from that relation. The attraction between these both function and form, will be interpreted by people through direct observation for user as well as architectural researcher. This research will use some methods, firstly, will record liturgy function and form on the conducted churches as case studies then will describe in detail, thus could be analyzed all the existing architecture form. Secondly, will use combination “sakralitas” approach from Eliade, Hoffman, Jones and Martasudjita to explore all activities function, although to identify ornament will use Peirce approach. On the otherhand, to explore form expression will use elaboration from architectural approach of Salura and Evensen. This analysis will be based on to structuralism approach, which will explore the inner structure. Thirdly, after analysis process, all case studies will be compared each other on each study object which known as inner-structure. Fourthly, interpretation of activities relation and sacred conception on study objects. Fifthly,  to conclude the signification of function relational with form sakralitas of church architecture. Therefore, if this building element’s sakralitas exist, then all the church architecture on study objects could be said, they are throwing off the expression of sacred form which full of Catholic’s values.         Keywords:  relation, function and form, expression, sakralitas, Catholic Church

Abstract

Traditional settlements are very synonymous with the customs and cultural traditions of the people in each region. Traditional settlements essentially and generally have rules for the pattern and arrangement of houses in settlements that follow the rules of local culture and existing traditions, one of which is in terms of orientation in home settlements. The pattern of the house's orientation is also found in the settlements in Limbungan Hamlet, but the orientation of the Sasak tribe in this village has a very diverse characteristic. Limbungan hamlet is a settlement located on contoured soil conditions and in a very high hilly area. The settlement pattern in this hamlet is generally symmetrical, forming settlement groups that follow the contours of the settlement. The purpose of this research is to be able to know and be able to explain the characteristics of the orientation of the traditional house of the Sasak tribe (bale tani) in the Limbungan hamlet, which has a traditional house orientation direction based on the approach of customary rules and traditions of the indigenous people or local communities. The research methodology used is a descriptive analysis qualitative method approach by conducting a comparative analysis technique on the traditional settlement group of the Sasak Tribe. The results of research on these settlements can show that there is a basis that the emergence of the orientation of the Sasak tribe is related to the concept of house orientation facing east. The house's orientation is good, namely the direction facing east and west, and strongly against the direction facing south and north. The east direction of the traditional house considers the topographical conditions of the placement of the house. Houses in hilly topography will generally always be oriented towards the high ground and face east, especially Limbungan is always at the foot of Mount Rinjani
