Abstract

Malang as the second largest city in East Java province become crowded recently. The congestion almost happens everyday. The scenery of the street corridor is full of iron stacks. It is said that Malang city is less comfortable and less walkable. The decrease of this environment encourages to conduct the study (Q.S. 16:90, Q.S. 96:1-5, Q.S. 30:41). The study aimed to analyze the thermal comfort at pedestrian ways around Malang city squares, the street corridor of Merdeka Alun-Alun (MAA) and the Tugu Alun-Alun (TAA). The temperature and relative humidity were measured by multinorm instrument. The THI (Temperature Humidity Index) method was used to analyze the thermal comfort. The results showed that the THI average at TAA (27) were more comfortable than at MAA (27,5). The south side of the MAA corridor became the most comfortable with the THI value of 26,4, which the side covered by trees canopy (Q.S. 7:58). It needs to conduct next research (Q.S. 13:11), because of the change of the activities at these street corridors.

Abstract

ABSTRACTPeople in Ngadas Village have enough time to live in their fields. Therefore, the community build farmhouses to help farming activities. However, as an agricultural landscape, cultivation in Ngadas Village has various dynamics. Changes that occur in the agricultural landscape can be traced through agricultural features formed by the type of agricultural land use. In addition, it can be traced through cultural features that are the result of interactions between human activities and the environment such as farmhouses. Therefore, this study aims to find out the implications of agricultural features on cultural features, especially space in farmhouses. The in-depth interview and observation methods were conducted to identify, then the data obtained were analysed by synchronous and diachronic methods. So, the changes that occur can be determined descriptively. The results of the study show that the culture of shifting cultivation that has become permanent causes the fields to develop along with the changes in the plants that have been planted, the addition of activities and intensity of plant management. More fixed location of the farm more developed and permanent farmhouses has been built. More activities carried out in the fields and the higher intensity of plant management, the wider and more space needed for the fields. Keywords: Agrarian culture, Agricultural landscape, Farmhouses

Abstract

Javanese and Islamic acculturations adhere to the people living at Dukuh Krajan. Javanese social and cultural aspects affect the spirit of Islamic activities. This is obvious by the use of Javanese/Islamic calendar system in every ritual. Yet, the high value of togetherness and communality is decreasing. This change will result in abandoning culture and growing social problem. It also influences the change of common space in the neighborhood. Therefore, it needs exploration on communal space established through Nyadran ritual. The purpose is to maintain the existence of the communal space as well as to develop togetherness and communality for the next generation. The study employs qualitative design with rationalistic approach. The data were collected through observation and interview. The communal space is formed by the activity, the physical area, the doers and the ritual time. The use of communal space in Nyadran ritual reflects togetherness and mutual cooperation value established as the result of the sense of care and the social awareness to share spaces for public interest.

Abstract

The Rembitan village is one of the villages in Pujut Subdistrict that still maintains the traditional traditions and culture of the Sasak Tribe. This tradition has built a system of life for the Sasak people who are believed to bring good for themselves and the group. This tribe is a good community and that has been oriented to Ancient Mosque Rembitan which builds the existing traditions and culture. At this time the tradition of this tradition began to decrease in demand and the understanding of its successors related to polishing culture began to decrease due to cultural acculturation. For this reason, there needs to be a continuity of cultural knowledge for the next generation to ensure the preservation of the culture and uniqueness of the region. The purpose of this research is to describe the value contained in polishing culture so that the next generation can learn and understand the meaning and purpose of each tradition carried out by its predecessors. This study shows that the role of the Ancient Mosque of Rembitan is very visible and orientates every activity in Rembitan Village. This is manifested in the form of beliefs, attitudes, and visible symbols such as settlements and indigenous polishing activities. The results of the analysis showed that the role of the Ancient Rembitan mosque was as a space or container for the people of Rembitan Village in carrying out every process of life, both in the form of physical and cultural activities (polishing).

Abstract

Traditional settlements are very synonymous with the customs and cultural traditions of the people in each region. Traditional settlements essentially and generally have rules for the pattern and arrangement of houses in settlements that follow the rules of local culture and existing traditions, one of which is in terms of orientation in home settlements. The pattern of the house's orientation is also found in the settlements in Limbungan Hamlet, but the orientation of the Sasak tribe in this village has a very diverse characteristic. Limbungan hamlet is a settlement located on contoured soil conditions and in a very high hilly area. The settlement pattern in this hamlet is generally symmetrical, forming settlement groups that follow the contours of the settlement. The purpose of this research is to be able to know and be able to explain the characteristics of the orientation of the traditional house of the Sasak tribe (bale tani) in the Limbungan hamlet, which has a traditional house orientation direction based on the approach of customary rules and traditions of the indigenous people or local communities. The research methodology used is a descriptive analysis qualitative method approach by conducting a comparative analysis technique on the traditional settlement group of the Sasak Tribe. The results of research on these settlements can show that there is a basis that the emergence of the orientation of the Sasak tribe is related to the concept of house orientation facing east. The house's orientation is good, namely the direction facing east and west, and strongly against the direction facing south and north. The east direction of the traditional house considers the topographical conditions of the placement of the house. Houses in hilly topography will generally always be oriented towards the high ground and face east, especially Limbungan is always at the foot of Mount Rinjani

Abstract

Plurality in religion is one of the absolute realities of social reality that is inevitable. Religious plurality is a challenge to create harmony in the religious life and, on the other hand, a vulnerable source of conflict and disputes by various parties. This study explores the pattern of religious space structure in religious plurality settlements in Balun village, Lamongan Regency. Using a structuralist approach (Levi-Strauss) to structure religious activities in a (1) pragmatic (contextual/technical), (2) syntactic (pattern/layout), and (3) semantic (perception) about space, form and sign to explore the pattern of sacred space with the aspects studied, namely the structure, territory and spatial dynamics of various worship activities in religious plurality settlements on a micro, meso and macro scale. Data was collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews with systematic purposive sampling. The results showed that the pattern of spatial order of religious spaces was formed by utilizing public spaces for religious activities; the change of public space into a space of religious activity forms the flexibility of the functioning of space and changes in the territorial boundaries of sacred space – profane. This research contributes to the theoretical development of spatial patterns of religious spaces in religious plurality settlements and creates a space for tolerance in religious life in Balun village, Lamongan.
