Abstract

The low learning outcomes and problem-solving abilities of students in Palu City are the driving force for finding a student-centered learning model that can improve the problem-solving abilities of high school students in Palu City. This research method is a quasi-experimental design with an intact group comparison design consisting of two groups, namely the experimental class with the RADEC Model learning treatment with a differentiated learning strategy and the control class with direct learning models. The study population was 3656 students, while the sample was 186 students in the experimental class and 186 students in the control class. The researcher selected the sample by purposive random sampling technique. The instruments used were problem-solving ability tests and learning style questionnaires. Data were analyzed using t-test statistics and two-way ANOVA. The results showed that the RADEC learning model with a differentiated learning strategy had a greater impact when compared to the direct instruction model on the mathematical problem-solving abilities of high school students in Palu City, with a significance value of p = 0.000. The average score of problem-solving ability of students who follow the RADEC learning model is 79.63. While the average score of problem solving of students who follow the direct instruction model is 50.72 that the difference in the impact of the learning model is 28.91. The RADEC learning model does not have a different impact on the mathematical problem-solving ability of high school students in Palu city based on learning styles, so that teachers can implement it in classes that have heterogeneous students in terms of learning styles.

Abstract

The problem in this research is how to instill religious character in group B1 children through the animated audio visual media Nussa and Rara. This research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which applies audio-visual media in cultivating children's religious character. Subject this research is child group B1 TK ABA Tirtajaya Regency Banggai Which amounted to 10 child, 5 man And 5 Woman. Study This done in two cycle Which each consists from two meeting session. Activity learning consists from four level that is planning, implementation activity, observation And reflection. Method collection data through interview, sheet observation And documentation. After that, data analyzed with method descriptive-qualitative And descriptive-quantitative. At the pre-action stage, the percentage of classical completeness obtained was 10% or consisted of 1 child who was included in the BSB (Very Well Developed) category and as many as 9 children did not meet these criteria. Furthermore, the classical completeness percentage was obtained at 30% or 3 children in the BSB (Very Well Developed) category and 7 children had not met these criteria in the first cycle of action, meeting I, then the researcher carried out the first cycle of meeting II and obtained classical completeness of 50%, which means they did not meet the standard of classical learning completeness set at 75% and caused the researcher to continue the research action to the next cycle. In the second cycle of the first meeting, the researchers found that there were 7 children included in the BSB (Very Well Developing) category with a percentage of classical completion obtained of 70%, while in the second cycle of the second meeting the researchers found 9 children included in the BSB (Very Well Developing) category and 1 child in the BSH (Developing According to Expectations) category. It can be concluded that the application of audio visual media can instill religious character in the children of group B1 TK ABA Tiertajaya, Banggai Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a description of student errors in solving algebraic form story problems based on Newman's procedure in junior high school. This type of research is descriptive using a qualitative approach. This research uses Newman's error analysis. The subjects of this study were three students, each of whom had high mathematical ability (ST), medium mathematical ability (SS), and low mathematical ability (SR) selected from class VIII W.R Supratman based on the report card value of mathematics class VII odd semester 2023/2024. The results of this study are as follows: Students with high mathematical ability (ST) tend to make mistakes at the reading stage by not reading the problem completely, especially the symbol "Rupiah," and at the writing/notation (encoding) stage by not writing the conclusion and the symbol "Rupiah". Students with moderate mathematics ability (SS) made mistakes at the comprehension stage by not writing and mentioning the question information completely, the transformation stage by making an incorrect mathematical model, and the writing/notation (encoding) stage by not writing the "Rupiah" symbol. Students with low mathematics ability (SR) made mistakes at almost all stages: reading by not mentioning the Rupiah symbol and not reading the complete problem, comprehension by not writing and mentioning the problem information completely, transformation by making an incorrect mathematical model, process skills with calculation errors, and writing/notation (encoding) by not writing the Rupiah symbol and the correct conclusion. This research shows the importance of understanding the problem thoroughly, making the right mathematical model, and writing complete notations and conclusions in solving mathematical problems, the results of this study are expected to contribute to the improvement of the mathematics learning process, both from the teacher and student side, so as to improve students' mathematical problem solving skills, especially in the material of algebraic form story problems.       Keywords: problem solving errors, math skills, algebraic story problems, newman procedure.

Abstract

This research was intended to clearly describe the differences in mathematical problem-solving abilities about initial mathematical abilities by applying the Problem-Based Learning and Discovery learning models. The research design employed a quantitative approach. The sample of this research was students of SMA Negeri 1 Mamosalato, Grade XI MIA 1, as the first and second experiment classes were XI MIA 2. This research applied an experimental method with a factorial design of 2 x 3. The instrument was administered to collect data to test initial mathematic ability and mathematical problem-solving abilities—data was analyzed in two ways: ANOVA and Tukey test (LSD test). The findings of the research were (1) there were differences in mathematical problem-solving abilities by applying the Problem-based Learning Model and Discovery Learning Model, (2) there was no interaction between the learning model and initial mathematical abilities on mathematical problem-solving abilities, (3) there was difference in students mathematical problem-solving abilities by applying Problem-based Learning Model and Discovery learning Model, especially to high initial mathematical abilities, middle initial mathematical abilities, as well as low initial mathematical abilities.

Abstract

Discovery learning was a learning model that encouraged students to actively construct their own knowledge, while critical thinking skills were essential for analyzing, reasoning, and solving mathematical problems. This study aimed to (1) determine whether there was a difference in mathematics learning outcomes between students taught using the discovery learning model and those taught using a conventional learning model and (2) determine whether there was a difference in mathematics learning outcomes between students with high and low critical thinking skills. The results showed that: (1) the discovery learning model was more effective than the conventional model in improving students’ mathematics learning outcomes (p = 0.019 < 0.05); (2) critical thinking skills had a significant effect on students’ mathematics learning outcomes (p = 0.040 < 0.05); (3) the combination of discovery learning and critical thinking skills provided better effectiveness, as students with both high and low critical thinking skills in the experimental class achieved relatively higher learning outcomes compared to those in the control class.
