Abstract

Nominal phrases are important elements in grammar that form sentence structures. In linguistic studies, the analysis of verb phrase construction is important to understand the author's language style and convey the meaning of a text. This study aims to identify the construction of verb phrases in the novel Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi using a linguistic approach. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through text analysis on sentences containing verb phrases, the data source is the novel Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. The data were analyzed using the documentation technique, namely by reading and identifying sentences containing verb phrases in the novel. Each verb phrase found was recorded and categorized based on its type. After the data was collected, the verb phrases were classified based on their construction. The data that has been classified is then analyzed using syntactic theory to identify the construction of verb phrases and then interpreted to understand the construction of verb phrases in building the narrative of the story. Then draw conclusions based on the findings. The research found two types of main phrase construction, namely coordinative phrases 161 data, and subordinative phrases 350 data with several types of subordinative phrases, namely subordinative verbal phrases structured Adv + V as much as 198 data, subordinative verbal phrases structured V + Adv 57 data, subordinative verbal phrases structured V + N 71 data, subordinative verbal phrases structured V + A 24 data.

Abstract

Purpose–Cultivating strong communication abilities is essential for navigating the challenges of today's workplace. These skills enhance academic performance and serve as a fundamental asset in meeting the demands of an ever-evolving and competitive job market. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning in enhancing the communication skills of communication science students.Methodology–The method used in this study was pre-experimental with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The research subjects comprised 73 students from the Communication Studies Program, Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. Data was collected using pre-tests and post-tests to determine students' communication skills before and after being given learning treatment with the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach. The data analysis technique was carried out using a variable normality test and a hypothesis test to see the difference in the pre-test and post-test scores of communication skills, with a significance of 0.05.Findings–The research conclusion is that there is a significant difference between the results of the student pre-test and the post-test of student communication skills with a paired samples test (t) value of 12.848 with a p-value of 0.000. There is a difference between communication skills (pre-test) and communication skills (post-test). Statistical analysis shows that the variables in this study are typically distributed. The hypothesis test results show a t-value of 12.848, which is greater than the t-table of 1.666.Significance –The application of PjBL significantly contributes positively and effectively to improving students' communication skills. Therefore, educators should emphasize the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach in learning, which has been proven effective in improving students' communication skills.

Abstract

Images can be used as a medium in poetry writing skills.  This research focuses on image media in improving the ability of junior high school students to write poetry. The purpose of this study explain the skills of writing poetry using image media. The results of this study are (1) The use of image media can be a poetry writing tool for students (2) Describe the role of teachers in learning to write poetry (3) Explain the obstacles faced by teachers in learning to write poetry (4) Explain obstacles for students to write poetry in class. This research data is in the form of information from interviews about poetry writing skills in Junior High School (SMPN) 09 Bengkulu city. This study involved educators and students at Junior High School (SMPN) 09 Bengkulu City. This study used techniques, observation, interviews, and documentation. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach.

Abstract

Discussion  of various kinds of text structures plays an important role in utilizing argumentative texts. This study aims to improve students' understanding of argumentation texts. The formulation of the problem in this study is 1. What are the factors that make students less understanding of argumentation texts. 2. How to improve student understanding. Data sources in this study were voice recordings, note-taking and interviews. In this study, researchers use a qualitative approach method because it is based on reality and events that take place in the field, namely about how to improve the understanding of argumentation texts in vocational students through simplification of texts. The reason researchers use a qualitative approach is because researchers can focus attention on natural events that occur and are experienced by students. In addition, researchers also conduct their own observations, interviews, and reveal the data obtained in depth. This study used data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. In qualitative research, this is carried out in various ways, one of which is the researcher goes directly into the field. The results of this study were seen from  the research sample used 50% of the population from the calculation for class XI Broadcasting 1 SMKN 3 students of Bengkulu City which amounted to 28 students taken 50%, namely 14 students. So the sample in this study was class XI Broadcasting 1 students totaling 14 students. The structure of the argumentation text itself, namely the introduction, the body of the argument and the conclusion. Based on the results of the assessment of argumentation text comprehension through a strategy of simplifying the text structure of 14 students, 7 male students and 7 female students, the average is 87.35. There were 7 students who were in the very good category and 7 students who were in the good category. The source of the data obtained in this study is in the form of student values. Judging from the object to be obtained, this research is included in the type of descriptive research using qualitative methods. Descriptive research is research conducted to find out the value of one or more variables without making comparisons and linking with other variables.

Abstract

Improving school promotion with persuasion texts on social networks is a strategy that can have a positive impact on student interest. The purpose of this study is to explain the increase in choosing schools in SMP Negeri 14 Kota Bengkulu. This research uses qualitative descriptive method, this research was conducted at SMP Negeri 14 Kota Bengkulu. This data collection was carried out through observation techniques by coming directly to SMP Negeri 14 Kota Bengkulu schools, conducting in-depth interviews with survey subjects, namely appointed teachers and documentary surveys in the form of photo or video documentation. The use of social media such as Instagram has proven effective in increasing students' interest in school. The use of social media as a sales promotion tool has also proven effective in increasing sales as well as proven effective in increasing sales of online store products. In education, the use of social media as a recruitment tool has been shown to have a significant impact on student engagement.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and describe the types of directive speech acts used in quotes on the Instagram account @marioteguh during the period of January 1 to February 28, 2025. The method used is qualitative descriptive with content analysis techniques on 57 uploaded quotes. The analysis is conducted using pragmatic theory and the classification of directive speech acts by Ibrahim (1993), which includes commands, invitations, requests, prohibitions, criticisms, and advice. The results of the study show that 84 directive utterances were found with the following distribution: advice (30 utterances), invitations (20 utterances), prohibitions (16 utterances), commands (8 utterances), criticisms (8 utterances), and requests (2 utterances). The dominant type of speech act is advice, reflecting Mario Teguh's motivational language style that emphasizes character building, moral strengthening, and positive encouragement to his followers. Each speech act is interpreted based on context, function, and the purpose Communicative, which generally aims to motivate, provide direction, and shape the positive mindset of the audience. Theoretically, this research enriches the study of pragmatics, particularly in the analysis of directive speech acts on social media. Practically, the results of the research can serve as a reference for learning the Indonesian language, especially in understanding the functions and appropriate use of directive speech acts in communication.

Abstract

From the results of initial observations made by the author at State Elementary School 118 Bengkulu Utara, researchers found that there was a lack of utilization of learning media and there were still many students who were less active during the learning process. This study aims to determine how the results of improving the student learning process using learning video media on short films to improve listening skills of fifth grade students of SD Negeri 118 North Bengkulu. This research uses quantitative methods with experimental research. The research subjects were grade V students totaling 22 students. Data collection techniques using One Group Pre Test - Post Test Design listening to the short film story "Windup" by Yibing Jiang. Data were analyzed using pretest and post-test scores listening to short films with SPSS statistical t-tests. The results showed that the improvement of listening skills using learning video media for grade V students of SD Negeri 118 North Bengkulu before treatment in the form of learning video media was 73% in the moderate category, while the improvement of listening skills using learning video media for grade V students of SD Negeri 118 North Bengkulu after treatment in the form of learning video media increased to 85% in the good category. From these data it can be concluded that the use of learning video media contributes to improving students' listening skills significantly.

Abstract

This research aims to strengthen the renewal of the concept of polite behavior for students in class 7 Indonesian language learning at SMPN 17 Bengkulu City. Thus, the aim of this research is to describe the types of polite behavior of students in learning Indonesian, along with the continuity of these speech acts. The problems in this research are: 1) what are the teacher's assertive speech acts in the 7th grade Indonesian language learning process at SMP Negeri 17 Bengkulu City, 2) what are the uses of assertive speech acts carried out at school, and 3) is there any use of assertive speech acts in behavior? polite students at SMPN 17 Bengkulu City. This research was carried out from 28 August 2023 to 29 August 2023. The data sources in this research were informants, namely teachers and students and incidents of polite behavior in class 7 when learning Indonesian. This research uses data collection techniques. The data collection used in this research is a study of research information or data obtained from photos, sound recordings and videos. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that polite behavior in learning is very important to improve teachers' polite behavior in assertive speech acts among students at school

Abstract

Reading corners can be used to increase students' interest in reading. This research aims to improve students' reading ability through reading corners in junior high schools. What is contained in this research is how effective the reading corner is in increasing students' reading interest. What is the school doing to prepare for the reading corner movement in the classroom? What are the problems behind students' low interest in reading? This research is a qualitative descriptive study. This research uses data collection techniques, namely interviews, observation techniques, data reduction, data presentation. The techniques for checking the validity of the data used in this research are observation and interviews. There are several factors that influence improving students' reading ability through reading corners in junior high schools, namely having a reading corner in each class makes students more enthusiastic about reading books, and the reading corner in each class is made as attractive as possible.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low ability of students to explain the learning processes they undergo. During lessons, students often feel bored due to the use of only printed textbooks and blackboards, which results in a lack of understanding of the material presented by the educator. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with the objective of evaluating the use of the digital media prezi as a teaching material for Indonesian language with a biographical text theme in grade X at MAN 2 Kepahiang. The findings indicate that the use of prezi digital media is highly effective in enhancing Indonesian language learning, making the material more engaging and comprehensible for students.
