Abstract

Adolescent smoking remains a critical public health concern in Indonesia. The prevalence of tobacco use among individuals aged 10–18 years has continued to rise, failing to meet the national target of 5.4% set by the Medium-Term National Development Plan (RPJMN). Given that smoking behavior is inherently progressive rather than a binary phenomenon, ordinal logistic regression provides a methodologically appropriate framework for examining its determinants. This study aimed to analyze the influence of cigarette price per stick, intention to smoke within the next 12 months, and peer influence on smoking behavior among 13-year-old adolescents in Indonesia. Secondary data were obtained from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) Indonesia 2019, with a final analytical sample of 1,893 students aged 13 years. All three independent variables jointly exerted a significant effect on smoking status (p = 0.000). In partial analysis, cigarette price and peer influence were significant across all categories, whereas smoking intention was only significant for the "probably not" category. The model demonstrated satisfactory fit and validity, confirmed by the goodness-of-fit test (p = 0.919) and the test of parallel lines (p = 0.925). Physical environmental factors (cigarette affordability) and social environmental factors (peer influence) constitute the dominant determinants of smoking behavior among 13-year-old adolescents in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused various changes in the social dynamics of life. Almost all age groups in various countries are forced to adopt new habits that have the potential to interfere with mental health. Providing social support can be useful for reducing the stress level of health workers. Proper social support can overcome stress problems. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of social support on the stress level of health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.Method: This is a literature review using population, intervention, comparison, results, research design, and keywords used according to the research topic. Keyword use Mesh term strategy with the term "social support" stress" "worker" "pandemic" and "COVID". Database sources are ScienceDirect, PubMed, Google Scholar, and SAGE. Searching strategy uses Prisma guidelines. The total article was 2,226 and the eligible article was 24 articles. The collected data were analyzed through a thematic review. The data analysis technique in this study was descriptive analysis.Results: The results of the study show that most health workers experience moderate levels of stress during the pandemic. The most influential sources of social support come from colleagues and partners. The form of social support that is often received and influences stress levels is emotional support. There is an effective effect of social support on the stress level of health workers during the pandemic. Therefore, it can be concluded that adaptation during COVID-19 has caused various changes in conditions and pressure for health workers

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: In Indonesia, discussions about reproductive health among adolescents remain constrained by cultural taboos, limited parental communication, and unequal access to accurate information, especially between urban and rural areas. These barriers contribute to low levels of reproductive health literacy. Purpose: This scoping review aims to identify the determinants influencing reproductive health literacy among Indonesian adolescents. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest databases on January 28, 2026, using Boolean operators with key terms such as "Reproductive," "Health Literacy," "Adolescent," and "Indonesia." Inclusion criteria were English-language articles from 2021–2025 focusing on Indonesian adolescents’ reproductive health literacy. After screening, 7 eligible articles were reviewed and analyzed thematically. Result: Findings that access to multiple sources of information especially digital platforms significantly improves adolescents’ reproductive health literacy and reduces risky behaviors. The internet and mass media emerged as dominant sources, followed by schools, peers, and parents. Socioeconomic status, age, family involvement, and formal education also play critical roles. Adolescents aged 16–24 generally exhibit higher levels of understanding. Cultural taboos, however, often restrict formal and familial discourse on reproductive health, causing adolescents to rely on less formal, and sometimes unreliable, sources. Conclusion: Improving reproductive health literacy among Indonesian adolescents requires a multifaceted approach that combines digital resources, structured school-based education, open family communication, and equitable access to healthcare. These interventions are essential to overcome cultural barriers and promote informed decision-making among youth.
