Abstract

Catharanthus roseus is one plant recognized as medical potential which can decrease cholesterol. Thepresent study was carried out to evaluate the effect of aqueous leaf extracts of C. roseus on plasma lipidprofil levels in rats cholesterol rich diet and atherogenic index. This study was carried out on 15 SpraqueDawley male rats randomly distributed into five groups (n=3). Rats hypercholesterolemic wereadministrated cholesterol rich diet containing 1% (w/w). Normal control group with normal diet whitoutextracts (K1), positive control hypercholesterolemic group (K2) with cholesterol rich diet whitout extracts, and others three groups (K3-K5) were feed high cholesterol and 1 mL of aqueous leaf extracts of C. roseuswith a dose of 20% (w/v), 40% (w/v) and 80% (w/v) respectively, administered twice daily 1 mL orally.Treatment was given for 28 days. After treatment, the plasma lipids profile such cholesterol total, highdensity lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglyceride (TGA) level were measured. Theresults showed that during the period of treatment with cholesterol rich diet have produced under condition hypercholesterolemic of rats with average cholesterol levels of 124.33 ± 4.04 mg/dL (K2 group). Treatmentwith extract dose of 80% showed the best results among the other doses in reducing levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and raise HDL levels. Extract treatment dose of 80% up to four weeks resulted incholesterol total (79.33±3.51 mg/dL), TGA (72.33±6.65 mg/dL), HDL (55.00±3.60 mg/dL), and LDL(9.87±5.34mg/dL). In addition, value ratio of cholesterol:HDL was 1.4: 1 and atherogenic index value was0.44. These results suggest that extracts of leaf C. roseus optimum doses 80% (w/v) has hipolipidemicactivity in hypercholesterolemic rats and it has low atherogenic index value.

Abstract

A study was conducted to determine disease seroprevalence of egg drop syndrome (EDS) virus in layer ducks in Negara district, Jembrana, Bali. A total of 180 samples of laying duck serum with different management systems were used in this research. A number of 90 serum out of 180 samples were taken from ducks with an extensive management system (reared in the ricefield), and 90 other serum samples were taken from intensive ducks (caged) from community farms in six villages randomly taken from Nagara districts. Serum sampel were collected from EDS un-vaccinated ducks. Serum samples were tested using an hemagglutination/inhibition test (HA/HI test). Data were analyzed using chi-quadrat analysis (X2). The results showed that duck layers maintained in n Negara district had EDS antibody titer of 23 to 29 HI units. The results showed that 68 (75.56% ) of layer ducks with an extensive management system have EDS antibody titer, whereas only 18 (20%) of layer ducks with an intensive management system have EDS antibody titer. This indicates layer ducks in both management systems have antibody to EDS virus without EDS vaccination and that the layer ducks reared in ricefield has higher seroprevalence percentage than layer ducks reared in intensive cages.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the implementation of Classical Swine Fever (CSF)vaccination on pigs in Timor-Leste. The study was conducted by analyzing the percentage of CSF antibodyin pigs sera that obtained from pigs in four districts which were located in the hills and coast of Timor-Leste. Evaluation was also carried out by observing the dominant factor that affecting the increase ofantibody titers in the sera. A total of 240 pigs sera were taken before and after vaccination and thenchecked for antibodies against of CSF virus by using PrioCheck CSFV Ab ELISA kits (Prionics Ag). Twohundred and forty serums obtained from non-vaccinated pigs and 240 other serum obtained from the samepigs, after being vaccinated with CSF vaccine. Time interval from the first and the second serum collectionwas at least 14 days post-vaccination. The results showed there was a significant difference (P<0.01) forthe presence of antibody in vaccinated pigs compared with the unvaccinated. A total of 75% serum fromvaccinated pigs was found positive for the antibody containing, while only 16.7% of serum from nonvaccinatedpigs was positive. The odd ratio analysis showed that the most influential factor for theincrease of antibody titer against CSF virus was vaccination status. among the other factors of age, sexand geographical study.

Abstract

Sediaan histologis diwarnai dengan hematoksilin eosin (HE).
