Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine differences in students' cognitive learning outcomes (CLO) using demonstration and experimental learning methods. The Clo differences are in students who have high critical thinking skills (HCTS) and low critical thinking skills (LCTS), and whether there is or not the interaction between learning methods and critical thinking towards students CLO. Hopefully, this research could strengthen existing theories and inform other teacher colleagues by using demonstration and experimentation methods in other subjects to improve the quality of a school. The study design used a 2 x 2 factorial design. The study population was students of X science class in one of the state high schools in Central Lombok, Indonesia, which amounted to 18 schools. The study sample amounted to 2 schools. In order to select the research sample, we used purposive random sampling. CLO and critical thinking skills were measured by using essay tests.esting on the validity and reliability of CLO tests and critical thinking skill showed valid and reliable results. Data were analyzed using ANCOVA with pre-test scores as covariates. The results showed that there were significant differences in CLO between students learning to use the demonstration and experimental learning method. There was a significant difference in CLO between students who have HCTS and LCTS, and there was no interaction between learning methods and critical thinking on student’s CLO. Experimental method learning is more optimal to improving student CLO when When it is applied to HCTS students rather than LCTS students on Archaebacteria and Eubacteria.

Abstract

Penelitian dan pengembangan Inquiry Manual Taching Book (IMTB) pada materi ekosistem dilakukan untuk membantu guru merancang dan menerapkan pembelajaran berbasis inkuiri dalam memberdayakan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Penelitian yang didesain merupakan Research and Development (RD) yang mengacu model Borg dan Gall (1983). Responden dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari empat guru Biologi SMA dan 109 peserta didik SMA kelas X dari dua SMA di Kota Surakarta dan dua SMA di Sragen. Pengumpulan data penelitian menggunakan angket, tes, lembar observasi, lembar validasi, lembar penilaian RPP, lembar keterlaksanaan sintaks LoI, dan tes kemampuan berpikir kritis. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis data deskriptif dalam bentuk persentase, nilai gain, uji t berpasangan, dan uji anacova. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) Rata-rata pemahaman, pelaksanaan, dan kesulitan guru biologi tentang pembelajaran berbasis inkuiri guru biologi sebesar 68,12% tergolong kategori cukup. Rata-rata hasil kemampuan guru mengurutkan sintaks inkuiri sebesar 27,58% tergolong sangat kurang. Rata-rata kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik sebesar 49,25% tergolong sangat kurang; (2) karakteristik IMTB, yaitu berbasis model LoI, sebagai sumber bahan ajar bagi guru, berorientasi pada tujuan untuk memberdayakan kemampuan berpikir kritis, memiliki prinsip less is more, mudah dipahami dan sistematis, membantu guru dalam merencanakan dan menerapkan LoI, dan berorientasi pada aktivitas peserta didik; (3) para ahli menyimpulkan bahwa IMTB layak berdasarkan komponen materi dan pembelajaran, instrumen evaluasi, tata bahasa, dan kegrafikan. Praktisi pendidikan menyimpulkan bahwa IMTB layak dengan predikat bagus; (4) ketercapaian pembuatan RPP bagi guru biologi pada mata materi ekosistem berdasarkan IMTB sebesar 89,92% dan tergolong kategori sangat baik; (5) ada perbedaan signifikan nilai kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik antara pretes dan postes. Terdapat peningkatan jumlah peserta didik pada kelompok kemampuan berpikir kritis sedang dan tinggi. Peningkatan setiap aspek kemampuan berpiki kritis dengan N-gain sebesar 0,5 berkategori sedang; (6) ada pengaruh profil guru dalam mengajar dengan menggunakan IMTB terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Kata kunci: Inquiry Manual Teaching Book, Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis, Biologi.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is a way of thinking to determine the right decision or action by logically considering things related to information. Therefore, it is necessary to update what supports learning activities, such as updating the suitable media by utilizing technological sophistication. This study aims to determine the validity and practicality of the discover learning e-module on environmental changes to empower critical thinking skills. This research type uses the ADDIE model development (Analysis, Design, Development Implementation, Evaluation). This study is limited to testing the validity and practicality of the e-module. The instrument used is a validity and practicality questionnaire. Assessment of the results of the validity and practicality of the questionnaire was interpreted with a Likert scale. Based on data analysis, the results of the validity test by material experts, and media experts, obtained an average score of 89% and 92%, respectively, in the very good category. And on the test of education, practitioners by teachers and students obtained an average value of 91% and 88%, which fall into the very good category. Based on the validity test and practicality test, it can be concluded that the e-module developed is valid and practical for use in further research

Abstract

The spread of the Covid-19 virus has brought changes in various sectors including education. Various policies have also been implemented in schools, such as distance learning to face-to-face learning on a limited basis. 21st century skills emphasize the creation of students who are able to apply technology in the digital era, think creatively and think critically. This study aims to determine the critical thinking skills needs of high school students in class X during the pandemic, especially on animalia material. The subjects of this study were high school students in class X in the province of Central Java, which was carried out using a random sampling technique. This research is quantitative research using a questionnaire sheet via google form consisting of 10 critical thinking questions. The instrument test was tested for validity and reliability using RASCH model with the Winsteps 3.73 application. The results of this study indicate that students' critical thinking skills are still low and further research is needed to improve students' critical thinking skills

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the understanding of students’ concepts in 9th grade junior high school on genetic material. Mastery of concepts is one of the important aims in the process of learning biology. In this research, it is used case study method with the research design pretest only one group design. The number of samples is 50 9th grade students consisting of 35 female students and 15 male students. The average of sample is 14--15 years old. The research instruments consist of 15 multiple choice questions on genetic material. The results show that the understanding of the concept of most of the students is about -0.19 logit. There are differences in mastering the concept of understanding between male and female students at certain concepts. It is used the Rasch model that can explain well the profile of students' conceptual understanding using output table 3.1 summary statistics: reliability person and separation person. Response patterns are known from person fit and scalogram table, as well as output table 30. Item: dif, between/within is applied to detect question bias both genders. The results of profile in understanding the concept of biology learning on genetic concepts require further researches to be able to improve the learning process so as to elevate the understanding of genetic concepts for 9th grade junior high school students

Abstract

The ability to compile concept maps is strongly influenced by the knowledge possessed. This research aims to describe students' Concept Maps scores on environmental pollution during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research includes a quantitative descriptive using a survey method with a population of 210 high school students. Data collection uses a Google form that asks students to make Concept Maps at the end of learning environmental pollution material. The researcher then assesses and determines the score of each student. Student scores are then combined and an average is obtained. The results showed that the largest percentage was owned by a valid relationship component of 9.75%, followed by a hierarchical component with a percentage of 7.34% and a branching component with a percentage of 3.42%. The pattern component is the fourth component with a percentage of 1.31%, followed by an example component with a percentage of 1.30% and the last component is a crosslink with a percentage of 0%. Acquired student concept map scores can be used to assess student learning outcomes so it is hoped that this research can be an evaluation material for students and teachers.

Abstract

The logical-thinking ability is one of the important competencies of 21st century that should be empowered. It is one of the aspects in a cognitive science domain that has not been implemented effectively in teaching and learning in the class. Then, this study aimed to analyzed the influence of generative learning model to enhance students' logical-thinking ability. This study was also conducted by using a quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. The sample was chosen by using simple random sampling technique. This study involved two classes which had 67 participants consisting of 34 students in Class VIII.9 as an experimental group and 33 students in Class VIII.7 as a control group. The researcher used the instrument of logical-thinking ability formulated in the form of multiple choice tests with five alternative answers that had been tested for its validity and reliability. The analysis of data employed t-test using SPSS 21. The result indicated that the t-count t-table (2.44 1.99) and p-value = 0.017 (p 0.05). It could be concluded that the application of generative learning model resulted in a significant influence on students' logical-thinking ability. The result of the analysis could be used by the schools for evaluating the quality of natural science learning in order to encourage students’ logical-thinking ability.

Abstract

Without the ability to analyze their own learning (metacognition), students can find it difficult to manage their educational journey. The good news is, future learning environments on online platforms offer innovative ways to develop these skills, even for those who are digital natives. This study aims to ascertain the effectiveness of online learning by using a website hyperlink-based teaching and learning scenario, especially using the Microsoft Teams platform towards students’ metacognition during online learning. Both metacognition knowledge and awareness (regulation), representing the metacognition, were checked. Coordination systems in learning biology were the chosen topics to be taught in quasi-experimental research using a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. Two classes were selected purposely based on the normality and homogeneity test to have the controlled and experimental classes. We examined the metacognitive knowledge and awareness using tests and questionnaires. We checked the effectiveness of the web hyperlink-based media on students’ metacognition knowledge and awareness using MANOVA Regression analysis and N-Gain scores. Our developed web hyperlink-based media has significantly enhanced students’ cognitive knowledge and awareness.

Abstract

The study was conducted in the home garden of Tanen hamlet in Ngargoyoso, Karanganyar, Central Java, Indonesia, which is situated at an elevation of 772 meters above sea level. The existence of Sukuh Temple near Tanen with Keris reliefs shows Keris culture in this region since ancient times. This study aims to identify plant species in the Tanen home garden suitable for Keris culture and understand their potential roles in Keris culture. Sampling was carried out using the cruising method, following the village road. Data on the plants on-site were collected through surveys conducted in the home garden. The plant species were classified with the assistance of The Mountain Flora of Java and www.theplantlist.com. The plants found were determined to be related to the Keris culture. The data were qualitatively analyzed to determine the role of each plant species in Keris culture and quantitatively assessed using the species richness index. The home garden in Tanen comprises a variety of species, with a species richness of 26 belonging to 19 families. Herbs make up 38% of the plant habitus in Tanen's home garden, which also has shrubs (31%), trees (23%), and bushes (8%). The most commonly used plant organs are leaves (24%) and flowers (24%). The potency of plants in the Tanen home garden for Keris culture is: for the name of the plant called in the blade of the Keris; for warangka (sheath) and deder (hilt); for equipment in Keris making; for cleansing agents; for fragrances (fragrant agents); and offering (food ingredients, spices). The primary potential use of plants in Tanen's home garden is for offering.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the degree of susceptibility of landslides in Cibal Districts. The method used in this research is descriptive survey method. The population in this research is all of the land in Cibal Districts. data collection technique is done by using observation technique and documentation study. Data analysis technique in this research uses crosstab technique. The results of this study can be seen that the level of susceptibility of landslides in Cibal based on crosstab results, there are three categories of vulnerability of landslide , they are low, medium and high. Low landslide susceptibility rate of 6.979,65 hectares or 64.09% is found in Nine sub-districts / village. The moderate landslide susceptibility rate has an area of 3,634.67 hectares or 33.38%, in seven villages. While the high landslide susceptibility rate is found only in one village with an area of 275.65 hectares or 2.35% of the total area of Cibal districts.
