Abstract

Mount lawu is the ekoton area that administratively located between Central Java and East Java Province. Research was done in qualitative exploration by using a series of the observation and identification methods. Sampling techniques used in line transect famous with the crusier method. There are four routes of climb as the location sampling: 1) Cemoro kandang (Karanganyar, Central Java), (2) Tambak (Karanganyar, Central Java), (3) Cemoro Sewu (Magetan, East Java) and (4). Jogorogo (Ngawi, East Java). Validation data was undertaken with triangulation method. Technique data were analyzed by using in descriptive qualitative. Based on the research done inferred the type of highest species found at 1900-2100 masl, while the lowest species types found at an altitude of 3100-3275 masl. Turdus poliocephalus stresmanii having spesification location foraging upon 2500-3268 masl, Apus affinis with 900-1700 masl, Cettia volcania in 3265 masl, and finnaly Falco peregrinus and Treron sphenura 3100 masl are bird with spesific distribution. Other kinds is cosmopolite by the span of distribution a relatively large amount of.Keywords: altitude distribution, avifauna, line transect, Mount Lawu

Abstract

Facts and Proofs Diagnostic Test and Structural Communication Grid Test are the tests to train, improve, and assess the level of students’ conceptual understanding and argumentation skills. This research was aimed to analyze the test item of the Facts and Proofs Diagnostic Test and Structural Communication Grid Test about bacteria, constructed as the columnar structured essay. The aspects of the validity, reliability, distinguishing power, and difficulty levels were analyzed using SPSS v.2.0 and Microsoft Excel 2010. Three-hundred and fifty-one students in Sragen Indonesia were chosen as the participants, selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. The schools were selected using cluster sampling. The results showed that two items were eliminated (Q3 and Q6). Revisions for 50 columnar items and five essays have been done. About 35.48% of the items were revised and the rest (64.52%) was accepted. The revised items were six of Facts and Proof Diagnostic test items, and one of SCG item, with 82 columnar items and 18 structural essay items. The finalized instrument can be used to detect students’ conceptual understanding, misconceptions, and argumentation skill.

Abstract

Developing a practical tool in ecology that addresses the challenge of transferring the ecologicalconcept systematically has become an essential factor in achieving a better understanding of the teaching process. Three-layer Observation Framework (TlOF) is one of the best methods that can be adopted in designing practical work in ecology since its power in providing a step-by-step concept reconstruction. This research aimed to develop a sample of practical work in ecological teaching and learning based on the TlOF. This research followed the ADDIE method in developing the product with some modifications. The research focus was set to gain product’s appropriateness from validators and users. The developed product was tested in Biology Education Department at the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta in order to collect responses for further product improvement. The results of the appropriateness test from three validators showed that the developed product is “very good” with an average score of 81.8. During the performed preliminary test by users, as high as 82.5 was achieved. It means that the developed product gained a good perception from the respondents. According to the results, TlOF-based mobile learning the practical tool is the potential to become an alternative media in improving practical work in term of encompassing ecological concepts.

Abstract

There have been several studies which focus on metacognitive awareness of senior high school students done. However, the factors influence metacognitive awareness have not been widely revealed. Thus, this research aimed at distinguishing the metacognitive awareness between the commuter and resident students’ of Islamic High School in biology learning. The subject of this quantitative research was divided into two groups (commuter and resident students). The sample unit in this study consisted of three boarding schools i.e. Al-Abidin Bilingual Resident School, Al-Islam 1 Senior High School, and Majelis Taqlim Al-Quran Senior High School that were selected by purposive sampling. The participants in this study were 88 students of grade X (40 commuters and 48 residents) which were taught in the same class. The data were collected using the survey method. Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) was used to obtain the data of the students’ metacognitive awareness. The data were analyzed using independent samples t-test. The results indicated that there was a significant difference between commuter and resident students’ metacognitive awareness (p = 0.027). In addition, the commuter students performed better metacognitive awareness on biology learning than resident students.

Abstract

Abstract:This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Subject Specific Pedagogy (SSP) based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to empower the students' ecological literacy at Sebelas Maret University. This research was conducted on Biology Education Program of FKIP UNS. The research design used was posttest-only control design. The sample of the research is 6th semester student with the number of 46 as experiment class and 7th semester student with amount 57 as control class. The posttest value of ecological literacy for the experimental class was 80.77% while the control class was 68.14%. The result of posttest of ecological literacy questionnaire was analyzed using independent test of t-test. Result of t test is got sig value = 0,00 (0,05) so there is difference of ecological literacy between experiment class and control class. This difference is influenced by students who have or are receiving an ecology course in the semester. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi FKIP UNS. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah posttest-only control design. Sampel penelitiannya merupakan mahasiswa semester 6 dengan jumlah 46 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan mahasiswa semester 7 dengan jumlah 57 sebagai kelas kontrol. Didapatkan nilai posttest literasi ekologi untuk kelas eksperimen sebesar 80,77% sedangkan kelas kontrol sebesar 68,14%. Hasil posttest kuisioner literasi ekologi dianalisis menggunakan uji beda dengan menggunakan independent t-test. Hasil uji t didapatkan nilai sig=0,00 (0,05) sehingga terdapat perbedaan literasi ekologi antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Perbedaan ini dipengaruhi oleh mahasiswa yang sudah atau sedang menerima mata kuliah ekologi di semesternya. Oleh sebab itu, perangkat SSP berbasis PBL menghasilkan perbedaan nilai literasi ekologi pada mahasiswa pendidikan biologi.Kata Kunci: Subject Specific Pedagogy, Problem-Based Learning, Keefektivan, Literasi Ekologi

Abstract

The purpose of the study is investigating the effect of problem based learning on students’ ecological literacy, comparing problem based learning with traditional teaching method. Quasi experimental research design included 60 students (30 experimental, 30 control group) in 10 grade senior high school in Surakarta. The experimental group was taught using the problem based learning while the control group was taught using the traditional approach. The control and the experiment group have been determined randomly. The data were collected using ecological literacy scale. The data has been analyzed by using statistical analysis techniques. Independent sample t-test was used for data analysis with SPSS 18.0. The results of the study showed that the problem based learning method was more effective in improving the ecological literacy skills of students compared to the traditional method.

Abstract

EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (EfSD): KESENJANGAN INDIKATOR UNTUK PENCAPAIAN LITERASI LINGKUNGAN DALAM KURIKULUM SEKOLAH MENENGAH PERTAMAAbstractEnvironmental education is one way to empower the environment where literacy can support sustainable development programs known as Education for Sustainable Development (EfSD). This study aimed to analyze the environmental literacy indicators in the curriculum of middle schools. The lesson plan in the middle school became the main subject for document analysis. This research is evaluation research. The data were collected with non-test techniques in the form of interviews and documentation. Qualitative analysis in the form of a matrix became the instrument used to analyze the gap of the indicators of the ideal knowledge and those of the aktual knowledge. The results indicated that out of 20 aktual indicators, there were 10 irrelevant indicators with the ideal indicators according to the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) and the ecological concept according to Lewinsohn. The gap between indicators of achieving environmental literacy can be overcome by substituting the overall ecological concept in the lesson plan for the environment-related material. The existence of a strong ecological concept is expected to be the initial provision for students to empower environmental literacy.AbstrakPendidikan lingkungan menjadi salah satu cara untuk memberdayakan literasi lingkungan sehingga dapat mendukung program pembangunan berkelanjutan atau dikenal sebagai Education for Sustainable Development (EfSD). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesenjangan indikator pencapaian literasi lingkungan dalam kurikulum sekolah menengah pertama (SMP). Rencana perangkat pembelajaran di SMP menjadi subjek utama dokumen yang dianalisis. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian evaluasi (evaluation research). Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik non-tes berupa wawancara dan dokumentasi. Analisis kualitatif dalam bentuk matriks menjadi alat yang digunakan dalam menganalisis kesenjangan indikator pengetahuan ideal dengan indikator aktual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 20 indikator aktual terdapat 10 indikator yang tidak relevan dengan indikator ideal menurut New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) dan konsep ekologi menurut Lewinsohn. Kesenjangan antara indikator pencapaian literasi lingkungan dapat diatasi dengan mensubstitusi konsep ekologi secara utuh kedalam rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran untuk materi yang berhubungan dengan lingkungan. Adanya konsep ekologi yang kuat diharapkan dapat menjadi bekal sejak dini bagi siswa untuk memberdayakan literasi lingkungan.

Abstract

KEEFEKTIFAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN GENERATIF UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR LOGIS SISWA DALAM PEMBELAJARAN IPAAbstractOne of the important 21st-century competencies that should be empowered is logical-thinking ability. Logical-thinking ability is one of the aspects in domain cognitive science that could not be implemented effectively in teaching and learning in the class. Then, this study was aimed to know the effectiveness of generative learning model to enhance students' logical-thinking ability. This research was also conducted by using a quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. The sample was taken by using simple random sampling technique. The research involved two classes which were 67 participants consist of 34 students in Class VIII.9 as an experimental group and 33 students in Class VIII.7 as a control group. The researcher used the instruments of logical-thinking ability, they were multiple choice tests with five alternative answers that have been tested for its validity and reliability. The used analysis of data is t-test by SPSS 21. The result obtained t-count value is 2.44, t-table on significant level 0.05 is 1.99, and p-value = 0.017 (p <0.05). It can be concluded that the t-count > t-table, so H0 refused. This also indicates that the application of generative learning models provides a significant impact on students' logical-thinking ability. AbstrakSalah satu kemampuan penting abad 21 yang harus diberdayakan adalah kemampuan berpikir logis. Kemampuan berpikir logis adalah salah satu aspek dalam domain kognitif sains yang belum dapaat diimplementasikan dengan efektif dalam pembelajaran di kelas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan model pembelajaran generatif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir logis siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan jenis penelitian eksperimen semu dengan desain pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Penelitian ini melibatkan dua kelas yang terdiri dari 67 partisipan dengan distribusi 34 siswa di Kelas VIII.9 sebagai kelompok eksperimen dan 33 siswa di Kelas VIII.7 sebagai kelompok kontrol. Peneliti menggunakan instrumen kemampuan berpikir logis yaitu tes pilihan ganda dengan lima alternatif jawaban yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah Uji-t menggunakan SPSS 21. Hasil yang diperoleh yaitu nilai thitung adalah 2.44, ttabel dengan nilai signifikansi 5% adalah 1.99 dan p-value = 0.017 (p < 0.05). Dengan demikia dapat disimpulkan bahwa nilai thitung > ttabel, sehingga H0 ditolak. Hal ini juga menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran generatif memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan berpikir logis siswa.

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan argumentasi lisan siswa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (classroom action research)  dengan penerapan Problem Based Learning yang meliputi lima tahapan pembelajaran, yaitu problem encounter, problem analysis and learning issues, discovery and reporting, solution presentation and reflection, dan overview integration and evaluation. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI MIPA di salah satu SMA di Surakarta yang berjumlah 37 siswa (19 laki-laki dan 18 perempuan). Teknik pengumpulan data dengan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi proses pembelajaran biologi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kualitatif dan prosedur penelitian tindakan kelas mengikuti model penelitian dari Coghlan & Brannick. Penilaian keterampilan argumentasi lisan siswa mengacu pada McNeill & Krajcik terdiri dari claim, evidence, dan reasoning. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan keterampilan argumentasi lisan siswa mengalami peningkatan dari level rendah ke level sedang dengan rata-rata skor keterampilan argumentasi lisan siswa pada prasiklus 0,19, siklus I 1,43, dan siklus II 3,49, serta rata-rata skor 5 pada siklus III. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa ada peningkatan keterampilan argumentasi lisan siswa melalui Problem Based Learning di kelas XI MIPA pada pembelajaran biologi.Kata kunci: keterampilan argumentasi lisan, pembelajaran biologi, penelitian tindakan kelas, problem based learning.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the characteristics and determine the validity and reliability of ecological literacy instruments to measure high school student's readiness for environmentally friendly behavior. The method used is development research. The trial sample consisted of eight high schools with adiwiyata status in Karasidenan Surakarta. The sampling technique used proportionate random sampling with a total sample of 440 students. Collecting data using open-ended interview techniques through focus group discussions and questionnaire trials. The results showed that the reliability and validity of the ecological literacy instrument were declared reliable and valid with Cronbach's alpha value of 0.714 in the knowledge aspect and 0.811 in the concern aspect. In conclusion, the ecological literacy instrument developed has the characteristics of an ecological concept that is universal and can be used to measure readiness for environmentally friendly behavior from the aspect of knowledge and concern for the environment.
