Abstract

Technological Advancements Have Significantly Transformed Biology Education, Particularly Through The Use Of Technology-Based Learning Media. This Study Aims To Identify Trends In The Application And Assess The Effectiveness Of Technology-Based Learning Tools In Enhancing Student Learning Outcomes In Biology. Employing A Systematic Literature Review Approach, The Article Analyzes Ten Selected Studies Published Between 2014-2024 And Indexed In International Databases. The Synthesis Of Results Indicates That Interactive Simulations, Augmented Reality (Ar), Virtual Reality (Vr), Mobile Applications, And Interactive Multimedia Significantly Improve Students' Conceptual Understanding, Motivation, And Participation. Most Studies Reported Notable Increases In Post-Test Scores And Active Student Engagement. However, Challenges Such As Limited Infrastructure And Insufficient Teacher Training Remain Barriers To Optimal Implementation. These Findings Confirm That Technology-Based Learning Media Hold Great Potential To Create More Engaging And Meaningful Educational Experiences, Paving The Way For Future Improvements In The Quality Of Biology Education.

Abstract

This study was designed to evaluate the validity and effectiveness of a PjBL e-module on the virus topic in developing high school students’ creative thinking abilities. The validation of the e-module was carried out qualitatively, while its effectiveness was investigated through a quasi-experimental approach using a nonrandomized control group with pretest and posttest. The population comprised all Grade X students at SMA Negeri 1 Polokarto in the 2025/2026 academic year. Two classes were sampled: X E1 as the experimental group using the PjBL e-module and X E3 as the control group with conventional materials.  The e-module was reviewed by four expert validators covering material, media, language, and instructional aspects. Effectiveness data were examined using an independent sample t-test and N-Gain scores. The validation process indicated a very high level of validity, with an overall average score of 94.38%. The t-test significance value of 0.007 (<0.05) confirmed a significant difference in creative thinking skills between the two groups. N-Gain scores demonstrated moderate improvement, with values of 0.37 for the control class and 0.57 for the experimental class. These results show that the PjBL e-module is valid and effective in enhancing students’ creative thinking skills regarding the virus topic.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need for developing a Project-Based Learning (PjBL)-based e-module on the human respiratory system to strengthen senior high school students’ critical thinking skills. The needs analysis was carried out through questionnaires distributed to students and biology teachers. Findings reveal that students frequently encounter difficulties in understanding respiratory system concepts when learning is limited to verbal explanations or textbook-based materials. Students also expressed a preference for digital learning resources equipped with visual representations, videos, practical tasks, and clearly structured learning stages. Biology teachers emphasized the urgency of providing digital media aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum that support collaborative activities and the development of higher-order thinking skills. They also agreed that a PjBL-based e-module has the potential to enhance students’ motivation, engagement, and conceptual understanding of the respiratory system. Therefore, the development of a PjBL-based e-module is considered necessary as an interactive and effective learning medium that accommodates both student and teacher needs while promoting meaningful learning and critical thinking.
