Abstract

One of the uses of steel is as a basic material for making helical gear. Helical gear is made of medium carbon steel S45C which is carbon steel for the use of machine structure. Sometimes in the production process of helical gear has a hardness values that are not in accordance with the standards of hardness that have been determined by the customer. One way to improve the nature of hardness is the hardening process. The hardening process can be done by considering the factors that affected the hardness of a material, such as heating temperature, holding time, cooling medium, and coolant media temperature. In this research, the method of analysis used is Taguchi with signal to noise ratio (RSN) nominal the best to determine the effect of factors and determine the optimal parameter combination in order for knowing the appropriate of hardness value. From the results of research, it is found the factors that influence the hardness of S45C steel in the hardening process of helical gear are the temperature of cooling medium. As for the optimum parameter combination is heating temperature 740oC, holding time 20 minutes, oil cooling medium and coolant temperature 35oC.

Abstract

CNC bending is a set of updated bending conventional machine, which has more advantages than conventional bending machine. To get final result with precision and accurate dimension using CNC bending TRUMPF TruBend 5050, the operators must have the bend allowance (Δ) table. The bend allowance is influenced by several parameters like dies, force and thickness of material. The three parameters really affect the final result of bending process. Testing is conducted to know the influence of parameter of dies, force and thickness of material toward bend allowance. The full factorial method is one of suitable methods used to know influence parameter, with level value dies in 8mm,10mm, 12mm, force in 150N, 300N, 500N and thickness of material in 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm. The result shows that the parameters, dies, force and thickness of material have the signifiance influence on bend allowance. From third parametes the thickness of material has the highest influence. It can be seen from Fhitung value that has 278.1230 compared with the parameters of dies which is 6.4325 and force that is 3.8611.

Abstract

A general constructor company engaged in manufacturing and construction services produces steel structure components that go through several stages of the fabrication process, one of which is the finishing stage. At the finishing stage, the product is coated by painting to protect the product from corrosion. The adhesion of the paint to the substrate must meet the criteria to get a good quality of protection for the product. Products with poor quality or defects require a repair stage so that the product can be sent to consumers. However, the repair stage can cause the process costs at the finishing stage to be higher. To get a product of good quality so that the resulting product has high adhesion and low processing costs, research is needed to obtain the optimal combination of process parameters in the painting process. The process parameters studied were cleanliness, thickness, and type of paint. The experimental design used the Taguchi method in the form of an orthogonal L9(34) matrix with three replications and used Grey Relational Analysis. From the experimental results, it was found that the optimal combination of process parameters for adhesion strength and process costs simultaneously was cleanliness at level 2 with a value of Sa2 1/2, thickness at level 1 with a value of 100?m, and paint types at level 1 with surface tolerant epoxy. The cleanliness parameter gives a contribution percentage of 67.5482%, thickness is 16.4417% and the type of paint is 13.5329%.
