Abstract

Dam and streams around the University of Riau is inhabited by many types of aquatic organism, including prawns. Scientific information of those organisms, however, is almost none. To understand the types of freshwater prawns present in that area. A research has been conducted from February to April 2017. Sampling areas were in the dam, pond and streams around the University of Riau. Freshwater prawns sampling were conducted once/week for a month period. Prawns were caught using a scoop net (mesh sixe 0,5 cm). Morphometrical and meristical characteristics of the prawns were then analyzed descriptively. The prawns sampled were identified. There were 106 prawns. The freshwater prawns species present were consisted of a single species only, namely Macrobrachium tolmerum, Riek, 1951 (Palaemonidae). This species characterized by schapocherite length that is shorter than rostrum length, rostral teeth sub-equally spaced, 8-10 teeth in the dorsal and 4 teeth in the ventral of rostrum. In male, the rostrum, propodus, carpus and merus are longer than those of the female.

Abstract

ABSTRACT             Osteochillus hasselti is present in the Tarai River that has relatively good water quality, as well as in the Sibam River that has polluted water. The water condition of the rivers my affects the fish health status in general. A study aimed to understand the histological structure of gill of the fish from those rivershas been conducted from February to April 2018. Fish organs were histologically processed and stained (HE). Results shown that in general, the histological structure of the gill of fish from both areas shown abnormality. Cell abnormality such as hyperplasia, oedema, hypertrophy, curling of the secondary lamella, and telangiectasis are present in all fish. The Histopathological Alteration Index (HAI) values, however shown that the  Tarai fish gill was better than that of the Sibam fish, they were 1.44 and 23.77 respectively. Keywords:gill condition, fish organ, Histopathological Alteration Index , gill abnormality

Abstract

AbstractMotan fish (Thynnichthys thynnoides) are found in the Bay of Petai Lake, Buluh Nipis Village, Kampar Regency. This study aims to examine the growth patterns exist in otolith. This research was conducted in March-April 2019. Sample fish were captured using gillnet and sempirai fishing gear. The sampled  fish is 95 tails (59 males and 36 females). Otolith (sagita) is sharpened and the growth circle pattern is seen using a binocular microscope. The results of the study foundthatthe otolith length was 1,175-3,65 weight 0,0022-0,0178 g and the core distance to the first black circle ranged from 0.2-0.97 mm. This shows that the first dark circles are formed individually and the dark circle is not formed by periodic events in the life of motan fish. The number of dark circles on otolith is 1-3. Water quality recorded temperature 30,50C, brightness 76,25, pH 6, DO 6,44 mg/L, CO2 9,7.Keywords: Thynnichthys thynnoides, dark circles, growth patterns, sagita
