Abstract

Mystacoleucus padangensis is relatively small Cyprinids that commonly inhabit theToba Lake and surrounding waters. A study aims to understand the stomach contentand its relation with size, sex and level of maturity of gonads has been done onJanuary to April 2014. There were three stations, namely the Naborsahan River(Station I), river mouth of the Naborsahan River (Station II), and the Toba Lake(Stasiun III). There were 515 fishes captured, however only 52 fishes were used forstomach content analysis study as the other having almost empty stomach (stomachfullness index less than 50%. Parameters measured were Index of Preponderance(IP), type of food based on Total Length, sex, and maturity level. Results shown thatthe main food of this fish is Rotifera (IP 41.78%). Small fishes (less than 81 mm TL)tend consume Bacilliariophyceae (76.17%), medium sized (80 – 93 mm TL) fish tendto consume Cyanophyceae (39.87%), while the big fish (more than 139 mm TL)prefer to consume Rotifera 38.27-58.38%) and Xanthophyceae (52.51%). Based onsex, the male eat more Cyanophyceae (35.60%), while that of the female Rotifera(39.86%). Fish with relatively low maturity level (2nd and 3rd maturity levels) tend toeat Cyanophyceae (82.56%) and Bacilliariophyceae (76.29%) respectively, whilemature fish prefer Rotifers (81.58%). Based on data obtained, it can be concluded thatthe diet of M. padangensis was various, and it is related to body size, sex and gonadmaturity level. Keywords : Mystacoleucus padangensis, Stomach Content Analysis, PreponderanceIndex, Sumatera Utara

Abstract

ABSTRACTOsteochilus hasselti is found in the Tarai River that has been contaminated with organic pollution and it may affects the reproductive biology of the fish. A study aims to understand the reproductive biology of O. hasselti has been conducted. The fish was sampled 3 times, once/month, from November 2017 to January 2018.  Parameters measured were sex ratio, gonad maturity level, Gonad Somatic Index (GSI), fecundity and egg diameter. Results shown that there was 29 males and 49 females (sex ratio 1:2). Male has slimmer body, brighter color than those of the female. Genital papilla of the male was white, while that of the female was red. Size at maturity level in male ranged from 95 to 170 mm SL, while that of the females was 90 to 190 mm SL. The average GSI of male ranged from 1.61 to 8.51% while that of the females was 1.02 to 11.14%. The average fecundity was 65,451 eggs/female and egg diameter was 0.10 to 1.00 mm. Based on the size of egg diameter can be concluded this fish is total spawner. Keywords: Sex ratio, gonad maturity level, gonad somatic index, fecundity, total spawner

Abstract

ABSTRACT Cork fish (Channastriata) is one of the freshwater fish species that live in the SeiPaku Reservoir. This study aims to determine the reproductive biology of cork fish, carried out in February-April 2019. Fish sampling is carried out 6 times at one-time interval in 2 weeks. The parameters measured were sex ratio, gonadal maturity level, Gonad Maturity Index (IKG), fecundity and egg diameter. The total sample of 97 fish, consisted of 54 male and 43 female, and a sex ratio of 1:1. Male cork fish develop gonads at a size of 364 mm (TL), while female cork fish begin to develop gonads at a size of 311 mm (TL). Male cork fish are at the level of gonadal maturity (TKG) I, II, III and IV, and female cork fish are also at the level of gonadal maturity (TKG) I, II, III and IV. Male fish IKG ranges from 0.01% -1.05%, while female fish ranges from 0.04% -3.42%. The fecundity of cork fish ranges from 27,374-54,248 grains and egg diameter 0.8-1.1 mm. Keywords: Sex ratio, gonadal maturity level, gonadal maturity index, fecundity

Abstract

Snakehead fish (Channa striata) is present in the Kulim River that has relatively good water quality, as well as in the Sibam River that has polluted water. The water condition of the rivers my affects the fish health status in general. To understand the histologcal structure of gill and kidney of the fish from those rivers, a study has been conducted from Januari to March 2017. Fish organs were histologically processed and stained (HE). Results shown that in general, the histological structure of gill and kidney of fish from both areas are different. The cell structure of the Sibam’s fish shown abnormality, while those of the Kulim’s fish were normal. Cell abnormality such as hyperplasia and fused lamella in the gill and damaged glomelurus cells and nekrosis are present in the kidneyof the Sibam fish. The histological study shown that the water quality affects the structure of gill and kidney of snakehead fish from the study areas.Key word: Kulim River, Sibam River, Channa striata, Fused lamellae, Gill Structure

Abstract

ABSTRACT Motan fish (Thynnichthysthynnoides) is one of the fish most found in the lake of Petai. This research was conducted in March until May 2019. Samples were captured using fishing rods and sempirai fishing gear. Sampling is done 5 times in 3 months. The reproductive biology aspects measured were sexual characteristics, sex ratio, gonadal maturity level, gonadal maturity index, fecundity, and egg diameter. The sample is 109 tails (72 males and 37 females). The comparison between male and female is 2: 1. In this study, there were more male fish. The level of gonad maturity found in male and female fish TKG I-V.Gonad maturity index 0.10 - 19.08%, fecundity of 5526-9204 grains / fish and egg diameter of 0.22-025 mm. Keyword: Sex ratio, gonadal maturity level, gonadal maturity index, fecundity

Abstract

Thynnichthys thynnoides is commonly inhabit the Pinang Luar Oxbow Lake. Information of the stomach content of this fish, however is limited. To understand the stomach content and its relation to size, sex and environmental condition, a research has been done on March to April 2016. There were 3 stations, around inflows of the Kampar River (St 1), at the middle of the lake (St 2), and the rear end of the lake (St3). Sampling was conducted 4 times, twice/month. Type of food present in the stomach of fish was analyzed and the PI (Preponderance Index) was calculated. There were 149 fishes captured and all of the fish were used in this study. Results shown that T. thynnoides is a plankton feeder, and there was no main food, but in general Cyanophyceae is the highest (PI37%) and the supplementary food was Protozoa (0.02%). In small fish, Euglenophyceae was 37%, while in the large fish Cyanophyceae was 39%. There are no differences of food type in male and female fishes. Keywords: Thynnichthys thynnoides, Stomach Content Analysis,Preponderance Index, Pinang Luar Oxbow Lake
