Abstract

Water is the most abundant chemical compound in nature, but in line with the increasing standard of living, the need for water also increases so that water becomes an expensive item. In some areas, it is not easy to get clean water sources that are free from pollution because high of domestic activities and water also sucked up a lot by industrial activities which require a lot of water for their production. On the other hand, land which is a water bank has been covered a lot by housing, industry, regardless of the function of the land as a vehicle for water storage. Increasing industrial and community activities can also increase the risk of pollution which can reduce the quality of existing water sources and cause difficulties for the community to meet their daily water needs. In this study, field surveys and questionnaires were conducted to obtain information about the social conditions of the community in meeting their daily water needs for drinking water and clean water. Laboratory test also conducted to evaluate the quality of water source based on regulation Peraturan Pemerintah No 82 tahun 2001. The results of the study showed that the community in Minas area still could not meet the daily water needs properly in terms of quality and quantity.

Abstract

The existence of forests continues to decline in terms of quantity (breadth) and quality through the process of deforestation and forest degradation. Deforestation and forest degradation have an impact on the destruction of ecosystems in the region and reduced forested areas that lead to less optimal functioning of areas as conservation areas. This study aims to determine the rate and rate of deforestation and forest degradation as well as the source of threats in the Kerumutan Wildlife Reserve area. The analytical method used by land cover change with stages: satellite image cutting, classification, groundcheck and analysis of deforestation rate and forest degradation. Classification uses visual interpretation techniques (on screen digitize). Factors affecting deforestation and forest degradation were analyzed by logistic regression. The results show that for 20 years (1996-2016) there has been deforestation of 2,879.73 hectares (0.15% per year) and forest degradation of 15,604.92 hectares (0.83% per year). Deforestation and forest degradation in SM Kerumutan is influenced by six driving factors such as population density, forest distance from road, forest distance from river, forest distance from settlement, forest distance from agricultural land and forest distance from industrial plantation forest.

Abstract

Even in the setting of schools, open burning of rubbish is still frequently practiced. This is in conflict with the government's program connected to the Pollution Control Strategic Plan (2020–2024), which has the goal of lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and the waste management policy (Law No. 18 of 2008). The justification is that the waste cannot be carried to the TPS or TPA, preventing it from building up and having negative effects like pollution. Lack of awareness, bad habits, and the idea that burning trash is simple and inexpensive are the causes. This issue also exists in SMPN 1 and SMPN 5, Bangko Pusako District, where waste is still managed conventionally by burning it all together without sorting it (visually, 40% of the waste is plastic). The quantity of waste in the two schools, as well as the timetable for its transfer to the disposal/burning site, have not been under control. Because the school has not demonstrated any sort of effective waste management, this requirement makes it more difficult for it to meet the target date for applying for SMP with the Adiwiyata predicate (in 2022). It is known from interviews and the findings of research questionnaires that the school is well-versed in the processes and effects of waste management (including plastic waste). Due to the limited infrastructure, expense, time, and governing laws, they have not been able to participate more. Through an educational approach to improving management conditions regarding the nature of the school as an educational area, and by empowering students as the main component of the school, an optimization of plastic waste management strategies at SMPN 1 and SMPN 5 Bangko Pusako was carried out in this study. Understanding is imparted by repeated verbal socialization, inclusion in instructional materials, use as an example in school life, as well as the creation of policies that have been unanimously agreed upon. Each part of the school is expected to reduce the amount of plastic trash produced, sort waste into its appropriate categories before disposal, reuse waste whenever possible to keep it out of the environment's rubbish heaps, and refrain from burning waste. Due to the majority of the debris being given to scavengers and stacked up, the results indicated a decrease in the volume of waste produced and the frequency of burning. The trash's contents may appear more appropriately for each type. Some plastic products have been replaced with other recyclable materials by students and instructors. This method of controlling plastic waste in the school setting is anticipated to serve as a good model for other schools.

Abstract

As part of the coastal and marine environment, mangrove ecosystems are often degraded due to more levies/logging, the conversion of nikau forests into ponds shrimp, and pollution.  The decline in the quality of this area originated from anthropogenic factors from land pollution originating from land (land base), as well as pollution from marine activities (seabase). The threat needs to be anticipated through increased awareness and awareness of key stakeholders (logging communities).  In terms of environmental science, this ecosystem is seen as a potential bulwark of carbon and other environmental services.  This activity is an effort to provide understanding to the general public and government officials about the various benefits and importance of mangrove conservation efforts.   Counseling on this topic is very necessary because there is information about community complaints about the high exploitation and threats to the sustainability of its existence in Kampung Rawa Mekar Jaya, Siak Regency.  Counseling is considered important to be carried out because of the increasing degradation of coastal ecosystems (mangroves, coastal waters, estuaries) due to environmental pressures from human activity. From this community service activity, it is hoped that it can increase the knowledge, understanding, and awareness of the local community about the benefits of long Janka to maintaining coastal and marine ecosystems. The mindset of coastal communities is expected to be open and understand what can be done, what can and cannot be done to coastlines and mangrove ecosystems, for the sake of preserving natural resources and the environment related to the lives of the general public and especially fishermen whose lives are largely dependent on these ecosystems. The form of this planned community service activity is counseling on the importance of mangrove forest ecosystem conservation as an effort to preserve the ecology of coastal areas and coastal waters of Kampung Rawa Mekar Jaya, Siak Regency.  Counseling on this topic is considered very necessary considering the increasingly intense community activities that cause overexploitation of mangrove forest areas. This activity is one of the efforts to bring the name of Riau University into contributing to the development of community service specialties, especially education in the field of mangrove forest ecosystem management

Abstract

In the effort to protect and manage the environment, every business and/or activity must have an environmental permit. One of the lowest responsibilities of an entity or business carried out by an individual or group is a Declaration of Ability and Environmental Monitoring, (Law No.32 of 2009) Puskesmas waste is generated from patient care as well as from other supporting activities. In general, waste is grouped into two major groups, namely medical waste and non-medical waste, both solid and liquid. The problem of medical waste in Puskesmas should quickly get serious and focused attention because the production of medical waste is increasing every day and becomes a dangerous threat to health workers, patients, and the surrounding environment. This condition is a serious problem and is considered important from an environmental health aspect. The strategy for the study of medical waste management at Puskesmas is using SWOT analysis, one of the approaches used is a qualitative approach with a SWOT matrix. The matrix shows how medical waste management at Puskesmas is carried out according to the conditions of opportunities and threats faced with the strengths and weaknesses of Puskesmas. So the method used in this research is to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that are owned by the Puskesmas
