Abstract

Abstract

This research paper investigates the impact of cultural tourism on the preservation of local traditions in Penglipuran Village, Bali, aiming to understand how tourism influences community practices and identity. The study employs a qualitative case study methodology, utilizing in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis to gather comprehensive data from local residents, community leaders, and tourism stakeholders. Key findings reveal that while cultural tourism has generated economic benefits and increased awareness of local heritage, it has also led to significant alterations in traditional practices, including the commercialization of sacred ceremonies and changes in architectural styles. The research identifies both supporting factors, such as community engagement in tourism management, and hindering factors, such as the risk of cultural dilution. Notably, the study emphasizes the importance of community perspectives in shaping sustainable tourism strategies that balance economic growth with cultural preservation. The novelty of this research lies in its focused examination of a specific village context, highlighting the unique dynamics between cultural tourism and local traditions while providing actionable recommendations for enhancing community involvement in heritage preservation. This work contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable tourism by offering insights into effective practices that can be adopted by other communities facing similar challenges.

Based on this review, this study aims to explore these aspects in depth to build the competitive advantage of bamboo plaiting MSMEs in Bali. In addition, this study also describes the supporting and inhibiting factors in increasing the competitive advantage of bamboo woven MSMEs in Bali in terms of the use of raw materials, production processes, and marketing strategies. This research includes descriptive qualitative research with data collection techniques through interviews. The research informants were 10 bamboo weaving craftsmen in Buleleng, and Bangli Regencies. The data analysis technique used qualitative data analysis. The results concluded that the competitive advantage model of bamboo plaiting MSMEs in Bali was built through 3 elements, namely raw materials (adequacy of raw materials, planning planting and harvesting time, selection of raw materials, use of quality raw materials), production processes (maintaining handmade, innovation, use of drying machines), and marketing strategies (improving network quality, participating in digital marketing training, and using online marketing strategies).

Abstract

This research examines the role of the Protestant Christian Church in Bali (GKPB) in building the economy of its congregation members, a theme that is still rarely explored empirically in Indonesia, particularly in the local context of Bali. The background of this research is based on the strategic role of the church not only as a spiritual center but also as an agent of community economic empowerment. Amid the economic challenges faced by the congregation due to dependence on the tourism sector and the social dynamics of Bali, the church has great potential to promote economic independence through various programs and initiatives. The main objective of this research is to identify and analyze the church's economic programs, evaluate their impact on the congregation's welfare, uncover implementation challenges, and provide strategic recommendations for improving the effectiveness of future programs. The urgency of this research lies in the need for a relevant and contextual community-based economic empowerment model, given the lack of similar empirical studies in Bali. The novelty of this research lies in the in-depth case study approach with data triangulation from interviews with pastors and congregants, as well as the analysis of active participation and internal church dynamics in managing the economic program. The research methodology uses a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with church leaders and congregants, participatory observation, and documentation of the church's economic programs. Data were analyzed thematically and verified through source triangulation. The main findings indicate that the church plays a significant role in improving the congregation's economy through skills training, capital assistance, the formation of cooperatives, and the facilitation of business networks. However, the implementation of the program still faces challenges such as limited resources, internal resistance, and market access. The level of congregation participation is a key factor in the success of the program. The research conclusion emphasizes that the church can become an effective agent of economic change if it can innovatively address internal and external challenges. The proposed recommendations include strengthening the church's management capacity, enhancing the financial literacy of the congregation, and developing strategic partnerships with various parties. This research is expected to serve as a reference for churches and other religious institutions in developing community-based economic empowerment programs in various contexts.
