Abstract

The partnership between Gapoktan Rukun Tani and vegetable farmers in Bogor was designed to facilitate farmers in overcoming  the limitations of production inputs, capital, and market certainty. This study compares a one year production and income of vegetables farmers who participate in the partnership to the non participated vegetables farmers in Bogor. Income analysis and R/C ratio analysis show that the partnership has no influence in increasing the farm production and income. In term of average production, income and R/C ratio, the partnership farmer was lower than that of non partnership farmer (0,96%, 0,97%, and 1,03 lower consecutively). However, the partnership farming increases the bargaining power of farmers by getting higher price and market certainty. Another advantage of paticipating in the partnership is higher access to both capital credit and production input.

Abstract

Cocoa is one of Indonesias export commodities that potential to be developed because the worlds cocoa consumption increases year by year. However, the national cocoa facing various problems, especially the quality is still low. PTPN VIII Cikumpay Afdeling Rajamandala is national plantation that produces cocoa with quality in national standards, so the objectives of this study are to analyze competitiveness of cocoa in PTPN VIII Cikumpay Rajamandala, to analyze government policy effect, to analyze the changing effect of productivity, price of cocoa, and exchange rates of rupiah against competitiveness of the cocoa. The methods of this research are Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) and sensitivity analysis. The results suggest that cocoa from PTPN VIII Rajamandala have competitiveness because the value of Private Cost Ratio (0.92) and Domestic Resource Cost (0.95) less than one and the value of private and social benefits are positive. The value of NPCO (Nominal Protection Coefficient Output) indicates that government policy is support competitiveness of cocoa, but the value of NPCI (Nominal Protection Coefficient on Inputs) shows that government policy is not support competitiveness of cocoa. Sensitivity analysis indicates that productivity, the price of cocoa, and exchange rate of rupiah affect the competitiveness of cocoa in PTPN VIII Cikumpay Rajamandala. Therefore, to increase productivity and to anticipate price and currency fluctuations in world markets, there should be serious steps such as the role of the government by issuing policies that protect domestic producers so the Indonesian cocoa more competitive.

Abstract

Agriculture sector in developing country, including Indonesia, faces many problems such as scarcity in productive agriculture land and continuous increase of demand for food.  Karehkel Village - West Java plans to develop integrated farming system (IFS) to address this issues.  The farming system at Karehkel Village integrates organic vegetables, livestock, and produces organic fertilizer and manure.   The purpose of this research is to develop quantitative model of IFS at Desa Karehkel and to determine the economic benefit IFS.  Using the Linear Programming model the optimal solution shows that the farm profit of IFS is higher than the Non-IFS.  The maximum profit can be reached by integrating organic vegetables – waste vegetables – livestock – manure – organic fertilizer (Bokashi).  The optimal solution also indicated that the whole organic fertilizer product  should be sold to the market since the cost per unit of organic fertilizer was relatively high.  Imposing  the organic fertilizer as the  input of organic vegetables farming reduced IFS total profit.

Abstract

The purpose of  this study was to analyze the economic efficiency of organic rice farming compared conventional rice farming. This study conducted using a cross section data from 100 farmers in Tasikmalaya  Regency. The farmers are selected using proportionate stratified random sampling technique which is divided into equal size of two levels. Study was performed using stochastic frontier production function and estimated by Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) method.  The result showed that the mean economic efficiency of the organic farmers (0,53) is higher compared conventional farmers (0.43). Cost saving of seed and high production in organic farming as a source of gain in economic efficiency. Knowledge on the factors influencing  farm efficiency is crucial for policy makers to improving efficiency levels.

Abstract

The low productivity of milkfish produced by traditional technology encourage the development of new farming technologies to increase productivity. Semi-intensive technology has evolved since the 2000s. However, this technology increases the cost of production because of the additional input of artificial feed. One of the regencies which produce milkfish using both traditional and semi-intensive technology is Karawang Regency. The objective of this research were to analyze profit and cost efficiency in traditional and semi-intensive techonology. The method of data collection conducted purposive as many as 30 milkfish farmers with traditional technology and 33 milkfish farmers with semi-intensive technology. The results show that semi-intensive technology provides a higher level of productivity and higher profitability. However, traditional technology was more efficient than semi-intensive technology. This condition causes the milkfish cultivation with traditional technology are still exist because it provides a higher return to capital.

Abstract

In the last 15 years, Indonesia palm-cooking oil price tend to increase significantly. The increase of palm-cooking oil price was driven by either its demand or supply. This study aimed to determine factors affecting of demand, supply, and Indonesia palm-cooking oil price. This research used time series data from 1990 to 2014. Simultaneous equation model was performed to analyse demand and supply of palm-cooking oil. The result indicated that income and population significantly influenced demand for palm-cooking oil. These implied that palm-cooking oil is categorized as normal good and staple food in Indonesia. While the price of palm-cooking oil, palm oil production, and real price of CPO Domestic significantly influenced supply of palm-cooking oil. This happens because agribusiness products have different characteristics from non-agribusiness products, that is perishable, voluminous, and bulky. Although in its development, agribusiness products can also be marketed through e-marketing. Tani Niaga is one of the e-marketing in the agribusiness sector, which managed by the Agriculture Service of Grobogan Regency (Dinas Pertanian Kabupaten Grobogan). The purpose of research are to identify factors that influence farmer to use Tani Niaga. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) to identify factors that influenced farmer to use Tani Niaga. The results of research showed that the individual characteristics of farmers and the characteristics of the Tani Niaga had significant effect on using Tani Niaga. The formal education was a dominant factor in individual characteristics of food farmers whose a significant effect on the level of using of the Tani Niaga, but a dominant factor in the horticulture farmers group was the courage to take risks. Moreover, the suitability of need was a dominant factor for the characteristic of Tani Niaga whose a significant effect on the level of using the Tani Niaga in the group of food farmers, but ease-of-use the Tani Niaga was a dominant factor for the group of horticultural farmers.
