Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ critical thinking skills through the implementation of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning method in science (IPA) subjects for fifth-grade students at SD Nahdlatul Ulama Metro. The background of this study is the low level of students’ critical thinking skills, which is indicated by their limited ability to analyze problems, express opinions, and draw conclusions, as learning is still predominantly teacher-centered. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, where each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were all fifth-grade students, totaling (adjust the number of students). Data were collected through tests to measure students’ critical thinking skills, observations to assess students’ learning activities, and documentation as supporting data. The data were analyzed using both quantitative descriptive and qualitative approaches by comparing the results from each cycle. The results showed that the implementation of the TGT method significantly improved students’ critical thinking skills. This improvement was indicated by the increase in the average scores and the percentage of learning mastery from the pre-cycle to cycle I, and further improvement in cycle II. In addition, students’ learning activities also increased, as reflected in their active participation in discussions, confidence in expressing opinions, and ability to collaborate effectively in groups. Improvements made in each cycle, particularly in time management and group organization, also contributed to the success of the implementation. Therefore, the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) method is proven to be effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills in elementary science learning.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the challenges faced in literacy levels in Indonesia. According to various international reports, Indonesia’s student literacy index is still relatively low compared to other countries. The low interest in reading and critical understanding hinders the learning process in schools and negatively affects students' academic performance. The aim of this study is to explore the implementation of building a literacy culture in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) lessons through the School Literacy Movement (GLS) in grade V at SDNU Kota Metro, Lampung. Using a qualitative approach, the study involves the principal and grade V teachers at SDNU Kota Metro, Lampung as informants. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and document studies, while data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data collection, presentation, and verification stages. The results indicate that the implementation of the literacy culture in PAI lessons through the School Literacy Movement at SDNU Kota Metro, Lampung has been carried out in accordance with the government program, covering several stages, namely habituation, development, and learning.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the relationship between 21st century education and the independent curriculum in basic education. This research uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to summarize and identify gaps that need to be filled from previous research, thereby producing unified literature on the concept of 21st century education and an independent curriculum. The literature used includes articles published in 2018-2023. These articles were selected based on title, abstract and keywords, so that 11 relevant journal articles were selected to be studied in this research. This research was carried out through three systematic stages consisting of, planning stage, conduction stage & reporting stage. The research results show that 21st century education directs students to play an active role in the learning process, mastering 21st century skills such as critical thinking, creative, collaborative, communicative, and mastering technology. Changes in education in the 21st century lead to improved quality of education, a better society, and a generation that is more adaptable. Providing education in the 21st century is an alternative for improving the quality of education, growing a generation that is more competitive and adaptable. The independent curriculum is here to provide new breakthroughs in the field of education, such as an active learning approach, application of contextual methods in learning, use of technology to increase literacy, and elaboration of metacognitive skills in students. The transformation of the independent curriculum is nothing but the spearhead of education in facing current developments and facilitating students to be able to develop various skills that must be achieved in the 21st century era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze comparatively the listening and speaking learning strategies contained in the Indonesian language textbook Cerdas Cergas Berbahasa dan Bersastra Indonesia for Grade X Senior High School/Vocational High School based on the Merdeka Curriculum. This research employed a qualitative approach using descriptive content analysis. The data source was the Indonesian language textbook published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2021. Data were collected through documentation techniques by identifying, classifying, and analyzing learning activities related to listening and speaking skills. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing based on the aspects of learning objectives, learning activities, instructional strategies, and the characteristics of developed language competencies. The results show that listening learning strategies emphasize students’ abilities to identify, understand, analyze, and evaluate information critically through activities such as information verification, interpretation, and text analysis. Meanwhile, speaking learning strategies focus on students’ abilities to express ideas, present information, negotiate, and communicate through discussions, presentations, and creative performances. The comparison indicates that both strategies apply student-centered learning principles and support the development of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. The novelty of this study lies in the comparative analysis of listening and speaking strategies within the Merdeka Curriculum textbook as an integrated framework for language competence development. The findings contribute to evaluating and improving Indonesian language textbooks to support effective and contextual language learning.
