The sample was 30 class E2 students at SMAN 8 Tanjung Jabung Timur. Data collection was carried out using two instruments: (1) a self-efficacy questionnaire which was used to measure students' reading self-efficacy and (2) a reading comprehension test which was used to determine students' reading comprehension. The correlation of the two variables is calculated using Pearson Product Moment in SPSS 15. The results show that the correlation coefficient has a value between 0.20 and 0.40, then the two variables have a low level of correlation. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected and it can be stated that there is no significant correlation between Self Efficacy and Reading Comprehension Ability of the tenth grade students' SMA N 8 Tanjung Jabung Timur. The coefficient of determination is 0.0723, indicating that the self efficacy has a 7.23% influence on students' reading comprehension ability, while the remaining 93% is caused by other factors.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the speaking fluency levels of fourth-semester students in the English Language Education Study Program at FKIP Universitas Riau. Speaking fluency is essential for future English educators, as it reflects language proficiency and supports effective teaching processes. This research uses a descriptive quantitative method to assess fluency based on disfluency indicators, such as repetitions, pauses, fillers, and false starts. Data were collected through two-minute speech recordings of each participant, with a random sample of 27 students chosen from three classes. Spectral analysis using Audacity software identified and counted disfluencies, which were then statistically analyzed. Results show that most students achieved fluency at level 3, with high rates of pauses and fillers. Disfluency factors include limited vocabulary, speaking anxiety, and lack of English practice. Recommendations for enhancing fluency include gradually increasing task difficulty, providing more practice time, and offering in-depth learning materials. The study suggests that the program pay special attention to developing teaching materials and methods to support students’ fluency improvement. Keywords: Speaking fluency, disfluency, students, English language learning

Abstract

This study aims to find the effect of Think, Talk, Write (TTW) strategy on the writing descriptive text ability of SMK students. The study used a quasi-experimental method with two groups: an experimental class taught using the TTW strategy and a control class using the conventional method. The data collection instrument was a descriptive writing test conducted before (pre-test) and after (post-test) treatment, with an assessment based on the Arthur Hughes rubric. The data were analyzed using independent sample t-test. The results showed that the TTW strategy had a significant effect on students' writing ability. The average value of the final test of the experimental class reached 87.17, higher than the control class which obtained an average of 76.25. This difference was also confirmed through a statistical test with a p value <0.001, which showed that students taught with the TTW strategy experienced a greater improvement in writing ability than students taught with the conventional method. The TTW strategy helps students to think critically, discuss, and organize their writing in a more structured way, thus improving the quality of the text they produce. The findings support the effectiveness of TTW in improving descriptive writing skills. This study recommends the use of TTW strategy in writing learning to create a more collaborative and in-depth learning process. Future researchers are expected to explore the application of TTW on different text types or populations.
