Abstract

Desa tangguh bencana (Destana) is a program aimed to make a village community prepared for and resilient to disasters. The Destana program was initiated by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) decreed by the Regulation of the head of BNPB No. 1/2012. A village represents the bottom line in the government system and therefore the capacity building for disaster resilience starts from the villages. The number of villages in Central Java reaches 8559 villages, while BNPB, BPBD Province, BPBD Regency/City can only launch Destana on average 30 villages each year from 2013 - 2018. As a result, it takes quite a long time to forming Destana in all villages in Central Java. Therefore, the role of universities, in particular the state universities in forming Destana, is really needed. One of the activities in the formation of Destana was in the kuliah kerja nyata tematik program (KKN PRB) conducted in Purbalingga Regency in 2 villages that were prone to landslides. Provisioning for students refers to Perka BNPB Number 1/2012 by implementing 20 Destana indicators. Gunungwuled village and Panusupan village were the two villages where the KKN PRB done by 10 students each. For 45 days students could build several indicators, i.e. making disaster risk maps calculated based on hazard maps, vulnerability maps, and capacity maps. Next, they made a Landslide Contingency Planning Document with residents and relevant stakeholders. The Village Disaster Risk Reduction Forum consisting of various community components and the BPBD of Purbalingga Regency was also formed. Afterwards, the capacity building activities to the community against disasters were conducted. Finally, an early warning system for landslides in areas with potential landslides was created and warning signs for landslide-prone areas and evacuation route signs were installed. With the help of KKN PRB, the Panusupan village and Gunungwuled village have now become disaster resilient villages.

Abstract

Since the tsunami in 2004 in the Indian Ocean, studies of the megatrust tsunami have been increasing. One of the reasons is because the megatrust tsunami can cause large numbers of casualties, as has happened in Aceh and Mentawai (Indonesia). The threat of a megatrust tsunami now stretches along the coastline of the southern island of Java. Communities who are in the southern part of Java, ideally have the ability to be prepared to face a tsunami disaster. Therefore, an assessment of community preparedness in the face of a tsunami in Purworejo Regency is an urgency, because Purworejo is one of the regencies directly adjacent to the ocean in the south of Java Island. This study uses a combination of questionnaires, interviews, observation and documentation to obtain data. This study provides information on the classification of villages along the coast of Purworejo in relation to the level of preparedness to face the threat of a tsunami disaster. The result is that from 16 villages 2 of them are of high status, 2 are low and the rest are moderate.

Abstract

On the one hand, the coastal area promises abundant natural resources, but on the other hand, there are potential threats of disaster for the people living in that area. Coastal erosion or abrasion is a threat/danger that harmful to communities in coastal areas in Indonesia. One of the areas affected by abrasion in Indonesia is Rembang Regency. This study attempted to analyze the physical and social impacts of abrasion in the Rembang Regency. This study was conducted qualitatively by utilizing Ikonos High-Resolution Satellite Imagery, field surveys, and interviews as the basis for the analysis of the impact of the abrasion disaster. Respondents in this study were communities and government officials in areas affected by abrasion which were determined by purposive sampling technique. The results of the data analysis show that the physical impacts of abrasion are classified into four categories, namely heavy damage, moderate damage, minor damage, and no damage, while the social impacts are in the form of psychological, sociological, and economic disturbances which have implications for decreasing welfare. Therefore, an in-depth analysis is needed to determine the abrasion disaster management policy in Rembang Regency.

Abstract

Petanahan sub-district has three villages directly adjacent to the sea: Karangrejo Village, Karanggadung Village, and Tegalretno Village. This study aims to analyze the level of tsunami susceptibility in the coastal area of Petanahan District in the Kebumen Regency. Analysis of the level of tsunami susceptibility using assessment methods, weighting, and map overlays using tsunami hazard parameters, including elevation, slope, land use, distance from the shoreline, and distance from rivers. Then the Weighting of the Tsunami Vulnerability Level uses the formula N = Bi X Si, where Bi is the weight on each criterion, and Si is a score on each criterion. The weighting results are then divided into five classes, very low, low, medium, high, and very high. The results of this study indicate that the tsunami hazard in a coastal area of Petanahan Regency consists of a very high class (93.904 ha/8.33%), a high class (567.804/50.35%), and a medium class of (465.962 ha/41.32%). The results of this research on the vulnerability to tsunamis can be used by the community, especially in the research area, to increase preparedness in dealing with tsunami disasters. At the same time, the Government can take policies in carrying out disaster risk reduction activities of a tsunami, especially in the research area.
