Abstract

Mobile application provides a spectrum of interactive and multimedia tools to improve the learning process. Unfortunately, this application not only brings benefits, but also portrays some flaws. Hence, this study aimed at finding out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that are potential from a newly-developed learning application named Haba Inggreh. This study belongs toqualitative deisgn, involving 29 students and 4 teachers from SMAN 1 Seunagan. Classroom observations and interviews were employed as the data collection techniques, and all the obtained data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that in terms of thestrength, both teachers and students agreed that the Haba Inggreh application enhances language acquisition. On the other hand, the weakness of this app is slow performance, which could frustrate the users, resulting in impeding effective learning. Furthermore, the opportunity of this app is that Haba Inggreh can be improved by raising interactivity and involvement. However, it also poses a threat, as using the app excessively for language learning is dangerous. Though Haba Inggreh offers helpful materials, language acquisition calls for real-world contact and immersion. Users could overuse the app and choose not to follow local wisdom.

Abstract

Background. Indonesia is one of the countries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The elderly are the most severely affected group due to the severity/morbidity and mortality of COVID-19 disease. West Aceh Regency is one of the red zone areas with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Aim. This study aims to analyze the COVID-19 prevention behavior in the elderly group. Method. This type of research was descriptive-analytic with a quantitative approach. The sampling technique used total sampling. The data collection used a questionnaire instrument. This study's data analysis used three univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses. Results. The results showed that 69.8% of the elderly had less Perceived Susceptibility but had good COVID-19 prevention. 64.7% of the elderly with good Perceived Severity but have less prevention. 63.6% of respondents have good Perceived Benefits and good COVID-19 prevention. 69.1% of respondents have fewer Perceived Barriers but have good COVID-19 prevention and 69.1% have good Cues to action plus good COVID-19 prevention. The dominant factors are Perceived Severity (OR value 2.77) and Perceived Barriers (OR value of 2.76). Conclusion. Health Belief Model could lead to behavioral change to prevent the potential for COVID-19 among the elderly.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Gampong Peunaga Rayeuk Kecamatan Meureubo Kabupaten Aceh Barat. Daerah ini dikenal sebagai Kawasan penghasil buah nipah yang melimpah di Kabupaten Aceh Barat. Masyarakat Gampong Peunaga Rayeuk mayoritas bermata pencaharian petani, salah satunya petani nipah. Akan tetapi, buah nipah yang dipanen umumnya hanya dijual dan dibuat minuman nipah dengan persentase peminat yang masih rendah. Oleh karena itu, Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, tim PKM dari Universitas Teuku Umar memberikan pemberdayaan dan pelatihan tentang cara mengolah buah nipah menjadi manisan nipah yang memiliki nilai jual tinggi dan rasa yang nikmat. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui tahapan observasi, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah pemanfaatan buah nipah yang diolah menjadi manisan nipah berwarna yang dapat dijual dan dikonsumsi untuk kesehatan. Dampak positif dari kegiatan ini adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan Masyarakat dan menjadi lebih mandiri dalam meningkatkan ekonomi keluarga

Abstract

This empowering community program at SMAN 1 Seunagan focuses on effective English learning strategies, boosting student motivation and participation, and evaluating their English proficiency and enthusiasm. To enhance English language learning, teachers at SMAN 1 Seunagan have implemented various engaging and relevant teaching strategies. Research results indicate that effective socialization of English language learning involves a context-based approach, technology utilization, teacher training, and continuous evaluation. Student motivation is triggered by material relevance, interactive learning, and positive recognition. Knowledge and skills evaluation is conducted through various methods to provide constructive feedback to students. Student enthusiasm is reflected in active participation, group collaboration, and technology use in learning. In conclusion, the implementation of effective strategies in learning socialization, student motivation, comprehensive evaluation, and fostering student enthusiasm has helped improve the quality of English language learning at SMAN 1 Seunagan, creating a learning environment that supports student growth in facing global challenges.

Abstract

For over the last decade, the number of Acehnese speakers has continuously declined. The obstruction of Acehnese transfer from one generation to the next generation is believed to contribute to this condition. This paper addresses the role of language policy and planning to overcome the mentioned problem. The situation of Acehnese use and the studies related to this topic are reviewed to conclude the suggestions for the improvement of Acehnese language policy and planning. The results of the review indicate that the Acehnese language policy and planning is not well prepared, specifically related to corpus planning which affects Acehnese teaching in school. In addition, the local government does not optimally support the efforts of using Acehnese in public.

Abstract

This study explores the significance of technology implementation in English language learning and its impact on community empowerment in Thailand. With the rapid advancement of technology, the use of digital tools in English education has become crucial in enhancing accessibility and effectiveness. This research employs a qualitative approach to assess how technologies such as learning apps, online platforms, and multimedia tools have influenced English learning processes within Thai communities. Through in-depth interviews with educators, students, and community members, as well as documentation analysis of technology use in education, the study identifies key benefits, challenges faced, and successful implementation strategies. Findings indicate that technology not only improves individual English language skills but also empowers communities by increasing educational opportunities and job skills. The study recommends further development of technology-based programs and policy support to expand the benefits of technology in English learning within Thai communities.

Abstract

The increasing importance of English communication in today’s globalized world necessitates effective language learning strategies, especially in speaking. However, traditional teaching methods often fail to engage students and build their confidence in speaking. This study explores the role of technology in improving students' speaking skills in English language learning, focusing on tools such as speech recognition software, language exchange platforms, and interactive video conferencing. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study involved 120 undergraduate students in a quasi- experimental design with a control and an experimental group. The experimental group utilized digital tools for speaking practice, while the control group received traditional instruction. The results indicated significant improvements in fluency, pronunciation, and overall speaking confidence in the experimental group. Survey and observational data also showed higher levels of student engagement and motivation. The study concludes that integrating technology into English language teaching can effectively enhance speaking skills by providing immersive, interactive learning experiences that foster autonomy and confidence. These findings highlight the potential of technology to bridge gaps in traditional language learning approaches.

Abstract

Infeksi saluran pernapasan akut (ISPA) adalah infeksi saluran pernafasan yang ditandai dengan sesak nafas, nafas cepat dan tidak teratur. Kasus ISPA mengalami peningkatan pada tahun 2016 dibandingkan dengan tahun 2015, dimana dari 372 kasuspada tahun 2015 menjadi 623 kasuspada tahun 2016. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui Faktor-faktor yang Berhubungan dengan Kejadian ISPA di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Johan Pahlawan Kabupaten Aceh Barat. Penelitian ini dilaksanakanPuskesmas Johan Pahlawan Kabupaten Aceh Baratpada tanggal 26 Januari- 8 Februari 2017 dengan sampel 86 orang, di analisis dengan menggunakan analisis univariat dan Bivariat. Hasil penelitian adanya hubungan antara faktor keberadaan perokok (Pvalue= 0,000 < α = 0,05), lingkungn (Pvalue= 0,001< α = 0,05), pengetahuan (Pvalue= 0,024< α = 0,05) dengan kejadian ISPA. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian adalah adanya hubungan antara faktor keberadaan perokok, lingkungan, pengetahuan dengan kejadian ISPA. Kepada puskesmas bagian promkes penyakit tidak menular diharapkan agar dapat menjelaskan kepada masyarakat yang mengalami ISPA bahwa penyebab ISPA adalah karena asap rokok, lingkungan yang tidak bersih sehingga diperlukan pengetahuan yang baik terhadap penyakit ISPA ini agar dapat menghindari penyakit tersebut.

Abstract

This study investigates how the SPEAK-BOT framework shapes group dynamics and collaborative interaction quality in EFL speaking pedagogy. Tthis study addresses the underexplored social dimension of language learning. Specifically, it examines how chatbot-generated prompts, when embedded in a pedagogical framework, influence turn-taking, elaboration, responsiveness, and cohesion during group discussions. A qualitative research design was employed with 20 third-semester English education students at Universitas Teuku Umar, Indonesia. The Students were organized into four small groups and engaged in structured speaking tasks that required consulting chatbot prompts as discussion starters. The instruments used in this research were an audio recorder for data collection, a thematic coding framework for discourse analysis, and a rubric-based scoring sheet to evaluate participants’ performance. The data were analyzed using discourse analysis and rubric-based scoring supported by descriptive statistics. The findings revealed a clear variation across groups. One group achieved very high interaction quality, marked by equal participation, deep elaboration, and strong cohesion. Two groups performed moderately, each showing strengths in some dimensions but gaps in others. One group demonstrated weak collaboration, relying heavily on chatbot output and producing fragmented discussions. The results suggest that the SPEAK-BOT framework has the potential to foster richer collaboration when learners use AI critically, but risks weakening interaction when prompts are adopted passively. The study contributes by reframing AI not as a substitute for peer dialogue but as a pedagogical mediator that can strengthen collaborative speaking pedagogy.
