Abstract

Abstract : The purpose of this study is to explore students’ perception toward AI. The research method used in this study was qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Qualitative research is descriptive and involves analysis. Processes and meanings (subjective perspectives) are emphasized in qualitative research. The theoretical framework is utilized as a guide to ensure that the research focus aligns with the facts in the field. a Likert scale with four options ranging from Strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D), and Strongly Disagree (SD). The data collection technique is closely related to the instruments that will be determined. Data collection is, of course, also related to the issues and research objectives, the Result show that the data analysis reveals a nuanced landscape of attitudes and concerns. While many students express enthusiasm about the potential benefits of AI-driven teaching methods, such as personalized learning experiences and improved access to educational resources, there is also a significant level of apprehension regarding the implications for traditional teaching methods and human interaction. The findings suggest that students value the role of human teachers as mentors, motivators, and facilitators of meaningful learning experiences, raising questions about the potential for AI to replace or diminish the quality of teacher-student.

Abstract

Language is a system of symbols that are meaningful and articulate sound (generated by said tool) which are arbitrary and conventional, which is used as a means of communicating by a group of human beings to give birth to feelings and thoughts, Wibowo (2001:3). Language is a system of express and report what happens on the nervous system, Pengabean (1981:5). Providing two language understanding. this research the researcher used questionnaire to gather perceptions from students about the use of film .The results elicit a favorable response from the students, with over half of them expressing agreement with each given assertion. However, inside each statement, there are certain phrases that serve as evaluations for teachers, including the choice of films, which should be a priority for teachers in schools. An appropriate film selection will facilitate the students' comprehension of vocabulary, pronunciation, and structural elements within the movie. Firstly, students often view watching films as an enjoyable and engaging activity. Unlike traditional pronunciation drills, which can feel monotonous and repetitive, films provide an immersive experience that captivates students' attention. When students are engaged and interested, they are more likely to pay attention to the pronunciation of words and phrases spoken by native speakers in the film. This increased exposure to authentic language usage can help students develop a more natural and accurate pronunciation

Abstract

E-learning dramatically changes the learning process. As a result, both teachers and students have to work hard to adapt to the process. In response to these changes, this study aims to analyze the perceptions of junior high school, senior high school, and parents regarding online learning. This study involved 44 parents, 24 junior high school students, and 20 high school students. Data were collected using two questionnaires. The data collected were analyzed quantitatively in the form of percentages. The results of data analysis show that junior high school students use computers/devices for online learning activities; however, they consider traditional methods (live class meetings) to be more appropriate than online learning. (2) High school students also use their computers/devices for online learning and have full support from their teachers, but they prefer traditional methods. They consider traditional methods more effective than online learning, and (3) parents prefer traditional methods over online learning. Therefore, teachers are advised to be creative in teaching online; parents are expected to continue to control their students' online learning. More research is needed so that more information about online learning can be obtained.

Abstract

Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into English language learning has garnered substantial attention and raised pertinent questions about its implications for the future of language education. This qualitative study with a systematic review design probes into the complex relationship between AI and English learning, whether AI in English language learning constitutes a potential detriment to the educational process, and whether AI is a disaster or a boon for English learning. A total of 15 peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 to 2023 (indexed in Scopus, WoS, and Sinta) were analyzed through four steps (data extraction, quality assessment, data synthesis, and result interpretation) to ensure comprehensive coverage. The findings from this study revealed not only multifaceted insights into the relationship between AI and English language learning, such as personalized learning, increased interactivity, and accessibility, but also its challenges, including privacy-related concerns, loss of human interactions, and reliability issues. This present study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the role of AI in English language learning, offering educators, researchers, and policy-makers valuable insights into the benefits and potential pitfalls of integrating AI technologies in language education. Moreover, this present study provides a details exploration of the AI-English learning paradigm, emphasizing the need for a holistic perspective that leverages AIs strengths while safeguarding the integrity and vitality of the English language learning experience. Furthermore, this study offers recommendations for future research endeavors, emphasizing the need for ongoing evaluation and refinement of AI-based English learning strategies.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to find out whether the use of humor stories in teaching reading can improve student’s reading comprehension to the second grade students. This is a quantitative research, and a reading test in multiple-choice format is use to collect data. Two narrative texts with ten multiple choice items each to consist the test. The test is using for both pretest and posttest. It was involve 35 students’ second grade of SMP Negeri 2 Amurang in the 2021/2022 academic year. The data analysis leads to the following result: calculation of mean of pretest and posttest data was done using the formula previously mentioned. Thus, with ∑X = 168, ∑Y = 206 and n = 35, mean of pretest was 4.8, whereas mean of the posttest was 5.9. The calculation indicates that posttest mean (5.9) is bigger than that of the pretest, 4.8. In other words, it means that students reading performance in the posttest is better than their performance before the treatment. This is due to the application of Humor Story. Standard deviation, as pointed out earlier, was calculated using raw scoring formula. Thus, with ∑X2 = 860, pretest mean 23.0, and n = 35, the standard deviation of pretest was 1.6; with ∑Y2 = 1264, mean = 34.8, and n = 35, the standard deviation of posttest was 1.3. The result of standard deviation calculation indicates that students reading performance in the pretest or before the treatment is more heterogeneous than their performance after the treatment
