Abstract

Aims: This study evaluated palliative care services in Indonesia, focusing on proposing a community-based model to enhance cancer care. Method: A mixed-method approach was employed, involving quantitative analysis of 200 patients’ personal and treatment factors and qualitative insights from 21 stakeholders to FGDs and in-depth interviews. Results: The qualitative results highlight five themes: 1) illness as a subjective and culturally influenced concept, 2) family’s role in treatment decision-making, 3) perceptions of healing through multiple treatment modalities, 4) finding positive meaning in illness, and 5) hopes and aspirations for recovery. The quantitative results show that 55.5% of patients had inadequate knowledge, with 69.5% preferring modern therapy. A significant relationship was found between knowledge, perception, and treatment options, while no significant correlation was observed with self-confidence or diagnosis date. Conclusion: An integrated community-based palliative care model tailored to Indonesia’s healthcare system is proposed to improve the quality of life for cancer patients.

Abstract

Chronic illness in children has an impact, whether physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural or economic, not only for themselves but also for their parents and families. Parents have a significant role in helping children with chronic illnesses adapt to the illness and achieve optimal growth. Normalization is a process whereby families try to normalize their daily lives while having children with chronic illnesses. This literature review aims to identify normalization behaviour in parents living with chronically ill children. Articles were collected through EBSCOhost, PubMed, Science Direct, and Scopus electronic database using the keywords normalization behaviour, parent, and chronically ill children using qualitative and quantitative studies. The reviewed articles were only articles with full text, written in English, and published from 2015 to 2024. The methodological quality of this literature review was assessed according to the guidelines of the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme. It found 54 articles and only seven articles met the criteria. In families, especially parents who are experiencing difficulty in coping with chronic illness, there were recommended to promote normalization. Normalization behaviour consists of acknowledging that the impairment is present, defining life as usual, minimizing the social consequences of the illness, and engaging in behaviour that demonstrates normalcy to others. In addition, an individual or family who normalizes accepts that there is a deviation from health but strives to live as usually as possible despite the limitations. Nurses can assist the family in performing normalization behaviour by reviewing the family's daily routines, providing social support, enhancing coping strategies, enhancing family closeness, and identifying family or community support sources

Abstract

Stunting is a health problem experienced by toddlers in the world today. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that Indonesia is the third country with the highest prevalence of stunting under five in Southeast Asia (29.6%). Stunting is one of the problems of malnutrition that may have a negative impact on child development. Stunting prevention efforts can be carried out through specific nutrition interventions and sensitive nutrition interventions. This effort can be done through nutrition education which is a part of health education and promotion activities, which are health planning efforts to change individual behavior in the health sector. The purpose of this systematic review is to comprehensively examine the effect of nutrition education on stunting prevention and the effective methods that can be used for educational programs. A comprehensive search strategy is carried out using 4 key databases, namely, Pubmed, ProQuest, EBSCO host and Science Direct from 2012-2021 as well as through the Google Scholar Search Engine. The articles used are primary resources using keywords, namely parents, nutrition education and health promotion, prevention of stunting in children, randomized trials and quasi-experiments. Data analysis was carried out with a narrative approach. Based on the search results, found 425 articles but only 9 articles that meet the criteria. The articles obtained prove that nutrition education has an effect on the nutritional status of children which can also be an effort to prevent stunting. Methods that can be used in conducting nutrition education are home visits, counseling, teaching, demonstrations, and discussions. Through these methods nurses can assist in maximizing the implementation of nursing care for stunting prevention through education as a preventive promotive effort.

Abstract

As a result of their children's cancer, parents are at risk of experiencing psychological distress. Parental stress will affect their roles in providing emotional support for their children. This systematic review aimed to identify the psychological distress of parents having children with cancer. EBSCO, PubMed, Science Direct, and Research Gate were applied to conduct electronic searches. The terms "parents," "children," "cancer," and "psychological distress" were combined using the Boolean expressions "OR" and "AND." The inclusion criteria were non-experimental studies published in English within the last 10 years (2010- 2020). Risk of bias assessment was conducted for each included study using the Joanna Bridge Institute critical appraisal tools to build transparency of findings. A total of 12 articles were included in the study to determine the prevalence of psychological distress among parents and the symptoms and factors that influence it. The high category of parental distress reached 17.6%, while the very high category reached 5.8%. Thus, it needed more concern. Suicidal ideation, insomnia, and poor health were all connected to psychological distress, with the age of children and parents, the number of children, occupation, education level, depressive history, and time of diagnosis all being predictive factors

The method used in the search is the literature study method with a series that includes searching for journal articles using certain keywords from the PubMed and CINAHL databases in the 2018 - 2023 period. The search results obtained 445 articles discussing body image disturbance interventions in adolescents, but only five articles that can meet the inclusion criteria. The results of the study showed that five interventions can be used to treat body image disorders in adolescents, namely application-based interventions (BodiMojo), Healthy Body Image (HBI) interventions, puberty education based on health belief models, application-based Cognitive-behavioral Therapy (CBT), and universal wellness programs. The five interventions proved to be effective in overcoming body image disorders in adolescents.
