Abstract

Introduction: Post-partum mothers experience an inadequate sleep quality, either because of new roles or changes during postpartum. The use of drugs in the postpartum period requires consideration because it is risky for both mother and baby, so non-pharmacological interventions are safer alternative choices. During the postpartum period, the mother also carries out her own care so that non-pharmacological interventions are needed because they can be doing by self. This literature review aims to know the types of non-pharmacological interventions to improve the sleep quality of postpartum mothers. Methods: This literature review search uses the database of Science Direct, PubMed, Google Scholar, EBSCO using the keywords "sleep quality, postpartum, intervention, nonpharmacology". The review involves 12 articles meeting the inclusion criteria. Results: The results of review founded some interventions including back massage, foot reflexology, auricular acupressure, pilates exercise, gymnastic aerobic, chamomile tea, lavender tea, orange peel essential oil, lavender aromatherapy, lavender cream, are significant nonpharmacological interventions to improving sleep quality in postpartum. Conclusion: The most improvement in sleep quality with foot reflexology so this intervention can be an option in nursing interventions in postpartum mother who experience sleep disorder.

Abstract

Breast cancer patients experience low self-acceptance and some of the experiencing psychological problems but not a lot of research to increasing self-acceptance. Additional intervention is needed to improve the effectiveness to increase self-acceptance. Technique relaxation is especially related because easy and quick to learn, it involves no risk, does not need use or purchased equipment and can be used on its own and immediately to tiredness and ill patients. This paper offers a literature review assessing the implications of previous studies order to create evidence-based decisions about the possibility to use of relaxation techniques with adult breast cancer patient for low self-acceptance. The Science Direct, EBSCOhost, Pubmed, DOAJ, Google Scholar database were searched in 2017 in orders to replied two questions: are relaxation technique effective to increase self-acceptance in breast cancer patients, and implications the previous investigation to future research concerning increase self-acceptance in breast cancer patients? Four articles included in the literature review. The relaxation technique for breast cancer patients with low self-acceptance is statically significant, and good evidence-based to practice. Some use of relaxation techniques in this study needs clarification as to whether it can be used directly or need to learn. Procedures in the collection of data in the articles also need to be assessed. In this literature review explain 4 relaxation technique to use for increasing self-acceptance in breast cancer, there are self-forgiveness, meditation, tai-chi, reflection, prayer, mindfulness. This literature review can be used as the basis for the decision to use relaxation techniques for increasing self-acceptance in the breast cancer patient.

Abstract

Approximately 38-63% of primiparous postpartum mothers experience lactation insufficiency, which has an impact on not breastfeeding their babies. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics and factors associated with postpartum mothers' milk production at the Public Health Center of Semarang City. This type of research is observational and cross-sectional design. The population of all postpartum women in Semarang City in October 2021, was taken by cluster random sampling at 8 selected health centers and a sample of 124 postpartum women. Methods of collecting data were questionnaires and data analysis with chi-square. The results of the research are the characteristics of mothers with an average age of 28 years, 56.5% of secondary education, 40% of primiparous parity, 59% of normal BMI, 92.7% of normal LILA, average age of the baby was 7 days, 82.3% of moderate anxiety level, 99.2% off good staff support, 58.9% of good surveillance worker support, 91.1% of good family support, 82.3% of more calorie intake of 2200 kcal, 62.1% of 1600 ml more fluid intake. There was a relationship between anxiety, family support, health volunteer support, calorie and fluid intake with breast milk production (p-value <0.05). There was no relationship between the support of health workers with postpartum mothers' milk production (p = 0.166). Mother’s psychological condition while breastfeeding, support from family, and health insurance are important things in increasing breast milk production as a continuation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding. In addition, calorie and fluid intake need to be considered to maintain the adequacy of mother's milk.

Abstract

Background: Assessment of the needs of palliative care is the first step to know about the picture quality of life and determine interventions to solve problems experienced by patients with chronic conditions and terminal. One of the instruments that can be used is the Problems and Needs in Palliative Care Instrument - Short Version (PNPC-SV). Instrument PNPC-SV examines the 8 dimensions of activity and exercise, physical symptoms, autonomy, psychological, spiritual, financial, and information needs. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the need of palliative care with the use of the instrument Problem and Needs in Palliative Care Instrument - Short Version (PNPC-SV) in cancer patients. Methods: This research uses qualitative method with case study approach. Data collection was conducted by means of questionnaires filled in the assessment of the needs of palliative care (PNPC-SV), then performed in- depth interviews in accordance with the results of the assessment and observation on the 6 participants in the space of oncology in one of hospital in Semarang. Results: The theme results of this research are: (1) Self-acceptance as well as support to the family of the condition of the patient, (2) Influence the patient's psychological to the social environment, (3) the right education to improve the quality of life and (4) The basic components assessment of the needs palliative care should be assessed by the nurse. Conclusion: The assessment which done in a holistic manner can help the nurse to provide nursing care in accordance with the needs of the patient to face the condition of the disease. The needs of the patient in physical, psychological, social and spiritual is very necessary to maintain the balance of her consistency and integrity in the ability to remain accepted, loved and appreciated by others.

Abstract

Background: Spiritual wellbeing (SWB) is an important quality-of-life dimension for cancer patients. Therefore, health professionals are demanded to improve SWB in these patients. A deeper understanding regarding the factors associated with SWB is needed. Objective: This study aims to examine the relationships of demographic characteristics of patients and spiritual wellbeing in patients with cancer. Methods: This was a cross-sectional correlational study with 60 respondents recruited using consecutive sampling. A spiritual wellbeing scale (SWBS) was used, and data were analyzed using Kendall's Tau and Spearman's rank. Results: Findings in this study showed that only age was statistically significant with spiritual wellbeing of cancer patients with p-value 0.003 (<0.05). There were no significant relationships of gender, education, occupation, long suffering, and type of cancers with spiritual wellbeing with p-value >0.05. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between age and spiritual wellbeing in patients with cancer. This study provides the insight of knowledge regarding the factors affecting spiritual wellbeing in patients with cancer.

Abstract

Background: Hemodialysis process is useful for patients with end-stage renal disease. However, this is a situation of abject dependence on a machine, a procedure and a group of qualified medical professionals for the rest of their lives that may influence their functional status. Objective: This study aims to describe the functional status of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Method: This was a descriptive study with cross-sectional design, which conducted in the PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta Indonesia on March 2017. There were 78 patients selected using purposive sampling. Functional status was measured using SF-36 questionnaire. Descriptive statistic was performed for data analysis Result: The total average of functional status level was 42.92, with Physical Component Scale (PCS) of 42.31 and Mental Component Scale (MCS) of 45.78. Conclusion: There were functional deficiencies in both physical and mental status in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Thus, it is suggested that pharmacological management of these patients need stringent monitoring on part of the psychiatrist to deal with mental health problems, and the interdisciplinary team need to do great efforts to improve functional status and quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease.

Abstract

Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis suffer changes in lifestyle, which cause physical and psychosocial problems, particularly anxiety. Progressive muscular relaxation is considered as an intervention to reduce anxiety. Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of progressive muscular relaxation in in reducing anxiety in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design involved 78 respondents, with 38 randomly assigned in the intervention and control group. The progressive muscular relaxation was performed on 14 muscle groups for 4-week period. Hamilton anxiety rating scale was used to measure anxiety. Univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed for data analyses. Results: The results showed a statistically significant difference in anxiety values between the intervention and control group with p-value 0.000 (<0.05). Conclusion: There was a significant effect of progressive muscular relaxation in reducing anxiety in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. The results of this study is expected to be one reference in making the  progressive muscular relaxation as a nursing intervention in reducing anxiety in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Abstract

Background: Job satisfaction influences the quality of health services in hospitals. However, low job satisfaction of nurses exists in the literature and influenced by various factors, including supervision. Thus, a reflective supervision model is considered effective in improving nurse job satisfaction. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of the reflective supervision model on nurse job satisfaction. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with control group design conducted from May to July 2017 at two hospitals at Central Java, Indonesia. There were sixty-eight nurses selected using purposive sampling, with 34 nurses assigned in the experiment and control group. Data were collected using questionnaires and then analyzed by paired t-test. Results: Paired t-test obtained p-value of 0.000, which indicated that the reflective supervision model has a significant influence to nurse work satisfaction. Conclusion: The reflective supervision model has a significant effect in increasing nurse job satisfaction. Therefore, this model could be applied by the head nurses to improve nurse outcome indicator, especially for nurse job satisfaction.

Abstract

Postpartum is a condition in which the reproductive organs return to normal which takes 6 weeks. The feeling of discomfort in postpartum mothers occurs because of the sensation of pain that is often complained of. One way to increase comfort for postpartum mothers is by providing non-pharmacological therapies, namely massage and listening to music. Music can provide impulses or stimuli that can override the pain signals. The literature review aims to describe the type of music that can increase the comfort of postpartum mothers. The method used is a literature review study. The database used from several journals and articles with a search process through Pubmed, Proquest, Springlink, Scopus, Google Scholar. The criteria for inclusion in this search were the year the articles were published, starting from 2010 to 2020. The type of classical music that has a medical connection is Mozart's music. Mozart music with a frequency of 40-60 Hz, tempo 60-80 bpm. Music therapy is given for approximately 20-30 minutes to produce a therapeutic effect with a period of twice a day for 2 days using headphones. Music used to increase comfort and reduce the anxiety that has a slow tempo, notes that are not too high or too low, has a low volume and is rhythmic with a simple arrangement, and a stable melody. The provision of music therapy, especially Mozart adagio classical music, affects reducing anxiety levels and reducing pain intensity so that it can provide a sense of comfort to postpartum mothers.

Abstract

Well-being is something that everyone, especially breastfeeding mothers, wants to achieve. Well-being is needed by postpartum mothers to play a new role optimally in the lactation process. The individual experience of breastfeeding is influenced by knowledge, positive affect and a lot of confidence in the breastfeeding process to achieve well-being during the postpartum psychological adaptation process. This study aims to describe the well-being of breastfeeding mothers. Literature review regarding the well-being of breastfeeding mothers using databases from ProQuest, ScienceDirect, JSTOR, and Scopus obtained from 2008-2020 with a total of 10 articles. Synthesis analysis reveals seven aspects that affect the well-being of postpartum mothers in the breastfeeding process, such as 1) family support, 2) self-efficacy, 3) initiation in the first time breastfeeding. 4) positive mood, 5) awareness of self-acceptance, 6) negative obstetric experience, 7) knowledge. Postpartum mothers can improve well-being through the management of factors that influence postpartum psychological adaptation as a positive preventive effort in increasing the ability of the lactation process to prevent ineffective breastfeeding.
