Abstract

This study aims to determine the form of local wisdom of Tenganan Pagringsingan Village in the preservation of village forests and water sources. This research is a qualitative descriptive study by conducting observations and interviews with several village community leaders, village heads, traditional heads, and the community. The results of the study show that the people of Tenganan Pagringsingan Village strongly uphold and uphold the existing local wisdom, especially in the form of rituals, myths, and rules. This local wisdom plays a role in maintaining the sustainability of village forests and water sources. These rituals are in the form of Tumpek Wariga and Metruna Nyoman. The Tumpek Wariga ritual is a symbol as a form of gratitude to nature in the mystical sense for the gift of plant fertility so that the community can use it for survival. The Metruna Nyoman ritual, as a form of non-formal education, shapes the character of the younger generation to know their own village, existing rituals, and most importantly, love and protect the environment. The myth that has existed since ancient times is Lelipi Selahan Bukit, a form of belief in forest guardians, so that the community does not dare to do things that cause forest damage. The rules, in the form of customary village regulations, outline the rights and obligations of indigenous communities, along with the accompanying sanctions. These regulations will serve as a binding force for all forms of community behavior, ensuring they conform to the established guidelines.

Abstract

Globalization has drastically changed the social structure of society, particularly in the economic and cultural sectors. This phenomenon is marked by the expansion of global capitalism through the tourism industry, targeting regions rich in tradition. In Bali, tourism plays a dual role: as an economic engine and a meeting point between local values and international market demands. Consequently, challenges arise for indigenous communities to maintain the authenticity of traditions amidst the pressures of a competitive economy. As part of the Bali Aga community, the Tenganan Pagringsingan Traditional Village maintains a structured system of local wisdom passed down through generations. Its unique cultural identity is reflected in spatial planning, customary law (awig-awig), and even its heritage of gringsing textiles, which tend to be protected from outside intervention. Nevertheless, the pressures of globalization through the tourism sector force the community to adapt its culture. This process creates a dynamic between exploiting economic opportunities and efforts to maintain the authenticity of traditions to prevent them from being eroded by time. This research is to examine how the community of the Tenganan Pagringsingan Traditional Village adapts its local wisdom amidst the flow of global tourism capitalism. Furthermore, this study explores the significance of this adaptation for the preservation of local culture. Using a qualitative approach and desk study methods, the data were analyzed descriptively, referring to literature on globalization and the sociocultural dynamics of indigenous communities. This study reveals that the cultural adaptation process took place in a measured and selective manner. The community succeeded in maintaining the integrity of traditional values, social structures, and sacred rituals from the influence of commercialization, while integrating the economic aspects of tourism through the crafts and services sectors. This dynamic and compromising strategy demonstrates that globalization can be managed as an opportunity to strengthen the sustainability of local identity, rather than simply being viewed as a challenge.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the role of Scout extracurricular activities in fostering and strengthening students’ disciplinary character in the school environment. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of how character development is implemented through Scout activities. The research subjects were selected using purposive sampling, involving nine informants consisting of the principal (1 person), vice principal for student affairs (1 person), Scout instructors (2 people), and students (5 people). This study was conducted over six months, from June 2025 to December 2025. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to ensure the validity and richness of the findings. The data analysis process was carried out systematically through stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Scout's extracurricular activities play a significant and effective role in shaping students’ disciplinary character. This is achieved through direct habituation processes (learning by doing), consistent role modeling by instructors, and the implementation of the patrol system, which emphasizes responsibility, cooperation, and leadership. Furthermore, structured and routine activities such as regular training sessions, flag ceremonies, and camping programs contribute to strengthening the internalization of discipline-related values. These activities positively impact students’ behavior, as reflected in improved punctuality, rule compliance, responsibility, teamwork, and a heightened awareness of discipline in their daily school life.

Abstract

Transnational marriage has become a growing social phenomenon in tourism areas, including the Lovina Tourism Area, Bali. Intensive interaction between local communities and foreign tourists encourages cross-national marriages, which subsequently affect family dynamics and adolescent development. Adolescence is a crucial phase of identity formation, in which self-esteem plays an essential role. This study aims to explore the forms and dynamics of transnational marriages in Lovina, examine the self-esteem conditions of adolescents exposed to this phenomenon, and analyze its potential as a contextual learning resource for Social Studies (IPS) at the junior high school level. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, involving adolescents, parents in transnational marriages, IPS teachers, and community leaders. The findings reveal that transnational marriages in Lovina are driven by economic factors, emotional relationships, and cultural interactions. Adolescents show varied self-esteem conditions, influenced by social acceptance, family support, and cultural identity negotiation. Furthermore, this phenomenon has strong potential to be integrated into contextual IPS learning to enhance students’ understanding of globalization, cultural diversity, and social dynamics. The study concludes that transnational marriage is not only a social phenomenon but also a valuable local learning resource for meaningful IPS education.
