Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the role of Scout extracurricular activities in fostering and strengthening students’ disciplinary character in the school environment. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of how character development is implemented through Scout activities. The research subjects were selected using purposive sampling, involving nine informants consisting of the principal (1 person), vice principal for student affairs (1 person), Scout instructors (2 people), and students (5 people). This study was conducted over six months, from June 2025 to December 2025. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to ensure the validity and richness of the findings. The data analysis process was carried out systematically through stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Scout's extracurricular activities play a significant and effective role in shaping students’ disciplinary character. This is achieved through direct habituation processes (learning by doing), consistent role modeling by instructors, and the implementation of the patrol system, which emphasizes responsibility, cooperation, and leadership. Furthermore, structured and routine activities such as regular training sessions, flag ceremonies, and camping programs contribute to strengthening the internalization of discipline-related values. These activities positively impact students’ behavior, as reflected in improved punctuality, rule compliance, responsibility, teamwork, and a heightened awareness of discipline in their daily school life.

Abstract

Transnational marriage has become a growing social phenomenon in tourism areas, including the Lovina Tourism Area, Bali. Intensive interaction between local communities and foreign tourists encourages cross-national marriages, which subsequently affect family dynamics and adolescent development. Adolescence is a crucial phase of identity formation, in which self-esteem plays an essential role. This study aims to explore the forms and dynamics of transnational marriages in Lovina, examine the self-esteem conditions of adolescents exposed to this phenomenon, and analyze its potential as a contextual learning resource for Social Studies (IPS) at the junior high school level. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, involving adolescents, parents in transnational marriages, IPS teachers, and community leaders. The findings reveal that transnational marriages in Lovina are driven by economic factors, emotional relationships, and cultural interactions. Adolescents show varied self-esteem conditions, influenced by social acceptance, family support, and cultural identity negotiation. Furthermore, this phenomenon has strong potential to be integrated into contextual IPS learning to enhance students’ understanding of globalization, cultural diversity, and social dynamics. The study concludes that transnational marriage is not only a social phenomenon but also a valuable local learning resource for meaningful IPS education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the classroom as an intercultural arena through an ethnographic investigation of intercultural education practices at SMA Negeri 3 Kupang Timur. The ethnic, linguistic, and socio-cultural diversity of students in East Nusa Tenggara creates complex interactional dynamics within classroom learning processes. Such diversity positions the classroom not merely as an instructional space, but as a social arena in which identity negotiation, meaning-making, and intercultural dialogue continuously unfold. This research employed a qualitative approach using an educational ethnography design to gain an in-depth understanding of participants’ lived experiences, meanings, and everyday practices. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with 25 informants (the principal, teachers, and students), and document analysis. Informants were selected purposively based on their active involvement in multicultural learning practices within the school context. The findings reveal four major themes: (1) identity negotiation through language use and communicative practices; (2) the formation of solidarity alongside culturally based social boundaries; (3) the implementation of culturally responsive pedagogy by teachers; and (4) the management of tensions and stereotypes in student interactions. These findings demonstrate that the classroom is not a neutral space, but rather a dynamic site of cultural production, reproduction, and transformation where intercultural meanings are continuously constructed. Theoretically, this study contributes to the fields of educational anthropology and intercultural theory by offering an empirical understanding of intercultural educational practices in a secondary school context. Practically, the findings highlight the importance of strengthening teachers’ reflective competence and developing school policies that promote inclusive and culturally responsive education. Future research is recommended to adopt longitudinal or comparative designs in order to broaden the understanding of intercultural dynamics across different educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how tolerance is constructed through everyday practices at SMPK Shining Star sTimika, a school characterized by multiethnic and multireligious student backgrounds. The issue of tolerance is particularly significant within Indonesia’s plural society, especially in Papua, where complex social and cultural dynamics shape educational interactions. This research employed a qualitative approach using an educational ethnography design to explore meanings, social interactions, and cultural practices that shape tolerant attitudes within the school environment. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with the principal, teachers, and students, as well as document analysis of school policies and programs. Informants were selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques based on their active involvement in school activities and cross-cultural interactions. The findings reveal four main themes: (1) cross-identity dialogue in classroom interactions, (2) cross-ethnic collaboration in learning activities, (3) the role of teachers as cultural mediators, and (4) school culture as a symbolic space of tolerance. Tolerance is not merely understood as a normative value but as a social practice constructed through dialogical communication, heterogeneous collaboration, and critical reflection in everyday school life. The study contributes theoretically by reinforcing social constructivist perspectives in intercultural education and offers practical recommendations for schools to design learning strategies and policies that promote inclusive cultures. Future research is encouraged to conduct comparative studies across different schools or regions to broaden contextual understanding.

Abstract

This study examines the historical development and educational dynamics of the Insan Mandiri Foundation in Singaraja as one of the Catholic educational institutions that has contributed to the social and educational landscape of the region since the 1960s. Rooted in the social reality of multicultural life in Singaraja, this research aims to describe the history of the establishment of the Insan Mandiri Foundation, analyze its institutional dynamics, and explore its potential as a resource for history learning. The study employs a historical research method with a qualitative approach, including heuristics through observation, interviews, and document analysis, followed by source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The findings reveal that Catholic education under the auspices of the Insan Mandiri Foundation has undergone continuous development since its establishment in 1961 while maintaining its religious identity amid changing social conditions. The dynamics of the foundation are reflected in institutional transformation, changes in the names of educational units, and the strengthening of its social role in education. Furthermore, this study shows that the historical experiences and institutional dynamics of the foundation can be integrated into contextual and locally-based history learning. The values embedded in its historical development represent multiculturalism, educational transformation, and social adaptation that are relevant to students’ understanding of local history

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine holistic education as a multidisciplinary approach with strong potential for human development within the Bima community. Holistic education is conceptualized as an educational paradigm that integrates cognitive, affective, psychomotor, moral, social, spiritual, and ecological dimensions in a balanced and interconnected manner. In the context of Bima society, this approach is particularly relevant because it aligns with local philosophical values such as Maja Labo Dahu and Ngaha Aina Ngoho, which emphasize integrity, ethical conduct, diligence, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method through an extensive literature review and phenomenological analysis of educational practices in Bima. The findings indicate that holistic education functions as a multidisciplinary synthesis, drawing upon pedagogy, anthropology, developmental psychology, sociology, and ecopedagogy to support comprehensive human formation. The integration of local wisdom into educational processes has been shown to effectively strengthen character education and ecological awareness, enabling learners to develop competitiveness and global readiness without eroding their cultural identity. Furthermore, holistic education provides a strategic framework for responding to contemporary educational challenges, including moral degradation, environmental crises, and the fragmentation of knowledge. By positioning local culture as the core of educational integration, this approach fosters sustainable human development rooted in local values while remaining responsive to global demands. The study concludes that holistic education represents a viable and contextually grounded strategy for advancing sustainable human development in the Bima community in the era of globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyses the trends, practices, and implications of integrating multicultural education into mathematics learning to strengthen 21st-century numeracy literacy through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Contemporary mathematics education faces global demands to deliver learning that not only emphasizes cognitive achievement but is also sensitive to cultural diversity, responsive to technological advancement, and relevant to modern life. Ethnomathematics, digital literacy, multiliteracies, and culturally responsive pedagogy have emerged as key components increasingly integrated into mathematics instruction to enhance creativity, critical thinking skills, numeracy literacy, and active student engagement. This review examined 23 articles published between 2018 and 2025 related to ethnomathematics, multicultural pedagogy, numeracy literacy, and educational technology. The findings indicate that integrating multicultural education significantly strengthens conceptual understanding, promotes higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), supports the development of students’ cultural identity, and increases motivation and learning engagement. Ethnomathematics has proven effective as a bridge connecting formal mathematical concepts with local cultural practices, while the use of technologies such as e-learning platforms, mobile modules, and digital media enables more contextual, adaptive, and inclusive learning environments. However, several gaps were identified in the existing literature. First, most studies remain fragmented, focusing separately on ethnomathematics or digital literacy without proposing a comprehensive integrative framework that systematically combines multicultural, numeracy, and technological dimensions within mathematics learning. Second, longitudinal studies examining the long-term impact of multicultural approaches on 21st-century numeracy literacy outcomes are still limited. Third, cross-cultural and cross-educational-level comparative research remains scarce, restricting the generalizability of findings across diverse contexts. Therefore, further research is needed to develop holistic conceptual and practical models that reinforce the strategic role of multicultural mathematics education in preparing numerate, inclusive, and globally adaptive generations.
