Abstract

Stenochlaena palustris, commonly known as pakisan weed, poses significant challenges in oil palm plantations due to its highly invasive nature, which can lead to reduced agricultural productivity. Management of this weed is critical, as effective control measures can inhibit its dominance and promote the proliferation of alternative weed species, thereby enhancing biodiversity within the ecosystem. This study aimed to 1) assess the effectiveness of the herbicide ammonium glufosinate, in combination with an adjuvant, for controlling S. palustris in oil palm plantations, and 2) investigate the subsequent alterations in the weed community structure following herbicide application. We employed a randomised group design (RAK), incorporating the herbicide with added adjuvants. Results showed a clear change from S. palustris to Asystasia sp. as the dominant species. Treatments K and H had the most Asystasia sp., while treatment L had the least. Furthermore, we clearly compared treatments L, K, and S to the control treatment, emphasizing the emergence of diverse species within the treatment plots. However, low levels of diversity and evenness suggest a stressed weed community, indicating that the herbicide application can disrupt existing ecological balances. This study emphasizes the importance of assessing herbicide impacts not only on targeted weed species but also on broader community dynamics, revealing a significant research gap in understanding the long-term ecological consequences of herbicide use in oil palm plantations.

Abstract

Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) cannot be directly used as an organic fertilizer source due to its high Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) thus it is not  environmentally safely. To increase the high quality of organic fertilizer obtained, the liquid wastes are needed to be processed in order to decrease the BOD to degrade both the soluble and suspension materials of organic materials. The altenative process to be conducted to make a better quality of POME is by adding the adsorbent. The aim of the research was to study the effect of zeolite utilization and duration of hydrolysis process in order to increase the nutrients content and to decrease the BOD of POME. The research was conducted at  the PT Sumbertama Nusa Pertiwi Jambi, Indonesia in August 2012 until February 2013. The sample of POME was taken from the inlet of the factory’s  acidulating pool. There were several doses of zeolite  as treatments which were 0, 5, 10, 15% and several durations of hydrolysis process which were 1,2,3 and 4 weeks. Active zeolite was added to POME and then it was fermented with different hydrolysis duration times as mentioned above. The research showed that application of  zeolite  and  duration of hydrolysis process significantly affected the pH, N,  P, K, Al, Fe, BOD of  POME and the adsorption of  N, P, K, Al, Fe by zeolite. It can be concluded that 10% of zeolite incubated  in  two weeks duration of hydrolysis process produced higher nutrient of N, P, K  with BOD, Al, Fe and pH matched  with the waste quality standard. The highest efficiency of  N, P and K adsorbent was show by the 15% of zeolite  which was incubated for two weeks of hydrolysis process.Keyword: Hydrolysis process duration, nutrient content, palm oil mill effluent, zeolite.[How to Cite: Nursanti I, D Budianta, A Napoleon and Y Parto. 2013.Zeolite Utilization as a Catalyst and Nutrient Adsorbent of an Organic Fertilizer Process From Palm Oil Mill Effluent as Raw Material. Abstract

Since the government launched a policy on simplifying the level of bureaucracy and government administration in the next five years that focuses on human resource development, the Ministry of PAN RB has developed an achievement strategy, namely, transfering administrative/structural positions of echelon III and echelon IV into functional positions. This transfer of positions has caused anxiety and feeling of uncertainy among officials whose current positions will be transferred. In its implementation, problems arise such as the readiness of administrative employees who are transferred into functional positions, their division of work, and their performance appraisal. This study aims to assess the implementation of the policy of transfering administrative positions to functional positions at the State University of Surabaya. This research is a qualitative research, using data collection methods with interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of transfer at the State University of Surabaya has been carried out properly according to the regulation, but there are still cases of mismatch between educational background and the functional positions and cases of mismatch between functional positions with the placement within the working units which cause a lack of positive impact on their work records and a decrease in financial support.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of human capital in improving the work ethic of employees in the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and Fire Department (Damkar) in Bolaang Mongondow Selatan Regency. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative methods. The qualitative method is used to gain an in-depth understanding of the factors influencing human capital and work ethic, while the quantitative method is applied through path analysis to examine the causal relationships between research variables. The study's sample consists of 78 employees of Satpol PP and Damkar, selected using a total sampling method. The findings reveal that each dimension of human capital has a significant impact on employees' work ethic. Knowledge plays a role in enhancing professionalism and dedication to work. Higher expertise encourages discipline and responsibility in performing duties. An individual's ability to complete tasks positively correlates with a stronger work ethic. Additionally, technical and interpersonal skills are key factors in fostering a productive and collaborative work culture. Collectively, these four dimensions of human capital significantly contribute to improving employees' work ethic. These findings emphasize that investment in human resource development—through training, education, and work experience—is an effective strategy for cultivating a strong and professional work ethic. Therefore, government institutions, particularly Satpol PP and Damkar, should adopt policies that support human capital development to enhance the effectiveness and quality of public services.
