Abstract

Learning at the senior high school (SMA) level represents a critical phase in students’ academic and psychological development. In Indonesia, the senior high school completion rate remains relatively low, indicating the need to examine psychological factors that support students’ optimal learning experiences. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and academic flow among senior high school students in Surabaya. A quantitative correlational research design was employed, involving 250 students from grades X and XI selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using self-efficacy and academic flow scales and analyzed using Pearson correlation and simple regression techniques. The results showed a strong and significant positive relationship between self-efficacy and academic flow (r = 0.613; p < 0.01), indicating that students with higher self-efficacy tend to experience higher levels of academic flow. Furthermore, self-efficacy was found to be a significant predictor of academic flow, demonstrating its substantial contribution to students’ engagement in learning activities. These findings imply that strengthening students’ self-efficacy is a crucial psychological and managerial strategy for fostering optimal learning experiences and enhancing academic engagement in senior high school contexts. Educational management practices that support confidence, autonomy, and mastery-oriented learning environments are therefore recommended to improve students’ academic flow

Abstract

The transition from high school to university constitutes a critical socio-psychological phase, particularly for first-year students living away from home who must simultaneously manage independence and academic adaptation. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and self-adjustment among first-year psychology students at Universitas Negeri Surabaya who have migrated from their home regions. Employing a quantitative correlational research design, the study involved 237 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) and the Inventory of New College Student Adjustment (INCSA). The data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation technique. The results revealed a strong and positive relationship between self-efficacy and self-adjustment (ρ = 0.701, p < 0.001), indicating that students with higher levels of self-efficacy tend to demonstrate better adjustment capabilities in academic, social, and emotional domains. These findings highlight self-efficacy as a crucial internal resource in coping with cultural shock, academic demands, and psychosocial challenges during the first year of university life. From an educational management perspective, the study implies the importance of integrating self-efficacy development strategies into student management systems, particularly through orientation programs, academic advising, and counseling services. Strengthening self-efficacy can support more effective student adjustment, retention, and overall academic success

Abstract

Abstract Student engagement is a key indicator of successful learning in higher education, as it is closely related to the quality of participation, motivation, and students’ persistence in their studies. However, levels of student engagement are not always evenly distributed, highlighting the need to examine psychological factors that contribute to student involvement in learning. One relevant psychological experience is academic flow, which refers to an optimal state of engagement characterized by intense focus, strong interest, and intrinsic enjoyment during learning activities. This study aimed to examine the relationship between academic flow and student engagement among university students. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed. The respondents in this study consisted of 332 undergraduate psychology students at Universitas Negeri Surabaya, selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through an online questionnaire using adapted versions of EduFlow-2 scale and the University Student Engagement Inventory (USEI), and were analyzed using Spearman correlation. The results indicated a positive and significant relationship between academic flow and student engagement (ρ = 0.564; p < 0.001), with a moderate level of association. These findings indicate that students with higher levels of academic flow tend to exhibit higher levels of behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement. The study implies the importance of designing learning environments that facilitate the emergence of academic flow to support optimal student engagement.

Abstract

Abstract The rapid development of information technology, particularly social media, has increased adolescents’ exposure to risks in the digital space, including digital sexual violence. The high intensity of online interactions places adolescents, as active social media users, in a vulnerable position to various forms of digital sexual violence. This study aims to understand adolescents’ perceptions of digital sexual violence, including their understanding, perceived meanings, recognized forms, and factors influencing these perceptions. The study employed a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method. Participants were middle adolescents aged 15–18 years who actively use social media. Data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings show that all participants perceive digital sexual violence as a violation of personal boundaries with negative psychological and social impacts. Adolescents are able to recognize various forms of digital sexual violence despite limited understanding of academic terminology. These perceptions are influenced by the social environment, parenting styles, education or socialization, indirect exposure, and social media as a source of information, indicating that adolescents’ perceptions are shaped through social processes and exposure to digital information.
