Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to study the effect of incubation period on the nutritional content of Azolla sp. meal fermented by Trichoderma harzianum, and its optimum supplementation level in the feed of tilapia Oreochromis sp. In incubation period treatments, fermentation of Azolla meal was performed in two, six, eight, and ten days (AF2, AF6, AF8, AF10) using Trichoderma harzianum as the fermentor. The fish used in this study was tilapia Oreochromis sp. with an average weight of 10.59±1.29 g. The design of the feeding treatments was repeletting commercial feed with Azolla leaves by with different supplementation levels, i.e. 0% (A/control), 30% (B), 60% (C), and 90% (D). Faecal collection for digestibility measurement was conducted for 15 days and fish growth rate was observed for 40 days. Azolla meal fermented for two days (AF2) showed the best results among the other treatments with a crude fiber decrease of 37.19% and protein increase of 38.65%. The results of this study indicate that fermentation can increase the nutritional quality of Azolla meal and its most optimal supplementation level in the diet of tilapia is 30%.Keywords: crude fiber, Azolla sp., tilapiaABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lama waktu fermentasi daun mata lele Azolla sp. menggunakan kapang Trichoderma harzianum serta dosis optimal dalam pakan ikan nila Oreochromis sp. Proses fermentasi tepung daun mata lele dilakukan selama dua, enam, delapan, dan sepuluh hari (AF2, AF6, AF8, AF10). Ikan uji pada penelitian ini menggunakan ikan nila Oreochromis sp. dengan bobot rata-rata 10,59±1,29 g yang ditebar sebanyak 6 ekor/akuarium berukuran 50×45×30 cm3. Sebagai pakan perlakuan yakni repeletting daun mata lele dengan pakan komersil pada tingkat suplementasi 0% (A/kontrol), 30% (B), 60% (C), dan 90% (D). Pemeliharaan ikan uji dan pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan feses ikan untuk uji ketercernaan selama 15 hari dan mengamati pertumbuhan ikan selama 40 hari. Tepung daun mata lele yang difermentasi selama dua hari (AF2) memiliki hasil yang paling baik di antara perlakuan lainnya yakni dengan penurunan serat kasar sebesar 37,19% dan peningkatan protein sebesar 38,65%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa fermentasi dapat meningkatkan kualitas nutrisi daun mata lele serta dosis optimal pemanfaatan tepung daun mata lele fermentasi dalam pakan ikan nila adalah sebesar 30%.Kata kunci: serat kasar, Azolla sp., ikan nila

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was aimed to evaluate the role of fish meal from different raw materials in improving growth performance of sangkuriang catfish Clarias sp. The source of raw materials used were derived from trash fish, salted fish, and head fish eal. Fish reared for 44 days and were given feed test three times per day at 08.00, 12.00, and 16.00. Biomass weight of the experimental fish used were 38.49±1.61 g. The fish reared on the aquarium of 60x50x40 cm3 and by using recirculation system. The results showed that fish meal derived from trash fish provide the best result for feed consumption, daily growth rate, absolute length, biomass, retention of protein, retention of fat, feed efficiency, feed conversion (P>0.05). However, it does not significantly different on the survival of fish (P>0.05). The data showed that the use of trash fish meal resulted on the best growth performance of sangkuriang catfish. It was indicated that the trash-fish meal might be used as the main protein source of sangkuriang catfish feed. Keywords: catfish, growth, at satiation, fish meal  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pakan uji yang menggunakan sumber tepung ikan dari bahan baku berbeda dalam meningkatkan kinerja pertumbuhan lele sangkuriang Clarias sp. Sumber tepung ikan yang digunakan berasal dari ikan rucah, ikan asin, dan kepala ikan, yang memiliki umum digunakan sebagai salah satu bahan baku pakan lokal. Ikan diberi pakan at satiation selama 44 hari dengan frekuensi tiga kali sehari, yaitu pada pukul 08.00, 12.00, dan 16.00. Biomassa rata-rata ikan uji yang digunakan adalah 38,49±1,61 g. Ikan dipelihara dalam akuarium berukuran 60x50x40 cm3 dan dengan menerapkan sistem resirkulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tepung ikan yang berasal dari ikan rucah mampu memberikan hasil terbaik dalam meningkatkan kinerja pertumbuhan ikan uji. Hal ini ditunjukkan oleh nilai kinerja pertumbuhan seperti jumlah konsumsi pakan, laju pertumbuhan harian, panjang mutlak, biomassa, retensi protein, retensi lemak, efisiensi pemberian pakan, dan konversi pakan yang menunjukkan perbedaan nyata (P<0,05). Namun, tidak terjadi perbedaan pada kelangsungan hidup ikan (P>0,05). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan tepung ikan rucah menghasilkan pertumbuhan terbaik sebagai sumber protein utama pada pakan ikan lele sangkuriang. Kata kunci : ikan lele, pertumbuhan, at satiation, tepung ikan

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was aimed to determine the effect of fish oil addition on growth performance and fatty acid composition of eel Anguilla bicolor bicolor. Freswater eel at an initial body weight of 9.90± 0.05 g were maintained in aquarium with volume of 120 L at stocking density of 1 g/L for 40 days. This research applied complete randomized design with four treatments addition of fish oil, i.e. 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. All treatments were carried out in triplicate. Feed given as much as 3% of the fish biomass a day for four times at 06:00, 11:00, 16:00, and 21:00. The results showed that the addition of fish oil in the diet have different effects (P<0.05) on specific growth (0.88–1.36%), feed efficiency (30.18–48.53%), protein retention (14.57–20.24%), fat retention (16.77–52.49%), energy retention (12.38–20.20%), and hepatosomatic index (1.72–2.72%) whereas the survival showed no difference (P>0.05) at 100%. In the fatty acid composition total of unsaturated fatty acid composition was 30.91–40.95%, n-3 fatty acids was 6.10–8.19%, and n-6 fatty acids were 6.18–8.19%. In conclusion, the addition of fish oil in the diet of freshwater eel Anguilla bicolor bicolor can be done up to 5% (13% fat content of diet). Keywords: Anguilla bicolor bicolor, fish oil, growth performance, fatty acid composition  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh penambahan minyak ikan terhadap kinerja pertumbuhan dan komposisi asam lemak ikan sidat Anguilla bicolor bicolor. Ikan sidat dengan bobot 9,90±0,05 g dipelihara dalam akuarium dengan volume 120 L pada padat tebar 1 g/L selama 40 hari. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap terdiri atas empat perlakuan penambahan minyak ikan pada pakan sebesar 0%, 5%, 15%, dan 15%. Semua perlakuan terdiri atas tiga ulangan. Pakan diberikan sebanyak 3% dari biomassa ikan dan diberikan sebanyak empat kali sehari yaitu pukul 06.00, 11.00, 16.00 dan 21.00. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan minyak ikan dalam pakan memberikan pengaruh yang berbeda (P<0,05) terhadap spesific growth rate (0,88– 1,36%), efisiensi pakan (30,18–48,53%), retensi protein (14,57–20,24%), retensi lemak (16,77–52,49%), retensi energi (12,38–20,10%), dan indeks hepatosomatik (1,72–2,72%). Sintasan tidak menunjukkan adanya perbedaan (P>0,05) yaitu 100%. Pada komposisi asam lemak dihasilkan total komposisi asam lemak tidak jenuh 30,91– 40,95%, asam lemak n-3 6,10–8,19%, dan asam lemak n-6 6,18–8,19%. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penambahan minyak ikan dalam pakan ikan sidat Anguilla bicolor bicolor dapat dilakukan sampai dengan 5% (kadar lemak pakan 13%). Kata kunci: Anguilla bicolor bicolor, minyak ikan, kinerja pertumbuhan, komposisi asam lemak

Abstract

ABSTRACT The research evaluated the use of rubber seed meal (Hevea brasiliensis; RBS) incubated with sheep rumen liquor as a subtitution of soybean meal in catfish Pangasionodon sp. diet. The fish was cultured for 40 days and fed with the experimental diet containing RBS at five different diet compositions regarding to soybean meal substitution level, i.e. 0% (control), 12%, 23%, 34%, and 44%. Feeding was done three times a day to satiation. No significant different was found on fish-protein retention and survival rate in all treatments. Based on the study result, the use of rubber-seed meal (Hevea brasiliensis; RBS) incubated with sheep rumen liquor could substitute soybean meal in catfish Pangasionodon sp. diet. Keywords: Hevea brasiliensis, Pangasionodon sp., catfish, sheep rumen liquor, rubber seed meal  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini mengevaluasi penggunaan tepung bungkil biji karet (Hevea brasiliensis; TBBK) yang diinkubasi dengan cairan rumen domba sebagai pengganti tepung bungkil kedelai pada pakan ikan patin Pangasionodon sp. Pemeliharaan ikan dilakukan selama 40 hari dengan pemberian lima komposisi pakan berbeda sesuai tingkat substitusi tepung bungkil kedelai oleh tepung bungkil karet. TBBK yang ditambahkan untuk mengganti bungkil kedelai adalah sebesar 0%, 12%, 23%, 34% dan 44%. Pemberian pakan dilakukan selama tiga kali sehari secara at satiation. Tidak ditemukan perbedaan signifikan (P>0,05) pada nilai retensi protein dalam tubuh dan kelangsungan hidup ikan uji pada semua perlakuan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa tepung bungkil biji karet yang diinkubasi dengan cairan rumen domba dapat digunakan sebagai pengganti bungkil kedelai pada pakan ikan patin Pangasionodon sp. Kata kunci: Hevea brasiliensis, Pangasionodon sp., patin, rumen domba, tepung biji karet

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was to evaluate growth performance and meat quality of Siamese catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus fed on commercial diets with different protein levels. Fish with average initial body weight of 33,61 g were reared in hapa (2×2×1 m3) at density of 30 ind/hapa. Fish were hand-fed with experimental diet to satiety twice daily for 60 days. Experimental design was set in completely randomized design. Each treatment was done in triplicates. Experimental diets were a commercial diet to contain four differennt levels of protein; i.e. diet A (18%), diet B (23%), diet C (28%), and diet D (32%). Specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein (RP) and lipid (RL) retention, hepatosomatic index (HSI), lipid and glycogen content of liver, protein and lipid content of meat, edible portion, and fillet textural were calculated. The results of the experiment showed that the highest weight gain and SGR, lowest FCR and meat protein were obtained in the group of fish fed 23%–32% protein diets. In conclusion, 23% protein diets gave the best growth performance and meat quality of Siamese catfish. Keywords : growth performance, meat quality, commercial diet, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kinerja pertumbuhan dan kualitas daging ikan patin siam Pangasianodon hypophthalmus yang diberi pakan komersial dengan kandungan protein berbeda. Ikan patin yang digunakan dengan bobot awal 33,61 g ditebar sebanyak 30 ekor/hapa ukuran 2×1×1 m3 dan ikan diberi pakan percobaan dua kali sehari secara at satiation selama 60 hari. Penelitian ini didesain dalam rancangan acak lengkap dengan empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Pakan yang digunakan adalah pakan komersial dengan empat kandungan protein yang berbeda: pakan A (18%), pakan B (23%), pakan C (28%), dan pakan D (32%). Parameter uji pada penelitian ini adalah laju pertumbuhan spesifik (SGR), rasio konversi pakan (FCR), retensi protein (RP), retensi lemak (RL), indeks hepatosomatik (HSI), lemak dan glikogen hati, protein dan lemak daging, serta tekstur daging. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penambahan bobot tubuh, SGR tertinggi, FCR terendah, dan protein daging diperoleh pada perlakuan protein pakan 23%–32%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan protein pakan 23% memberikan kinerja pertumbuhan dan kualitas daging ikan terbaik. Kata kunci: kinerja pertumbuhan, kualitas daging, pakan komersial, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus

Abstract

ABSTRACT The study was aimed to determine the optimum dietary protein level and energy protein ratio which can optimize growth performance of the eel A. bicolor bicolor on nursery phase.  Four treatments and three replications were applied in this study. The treatments were  P1, containing 37.66% protein with energy protein ratio 14.75 kcal GE/g (37.66%; 14.75 kcal GE/g), treatment P2 (41.30%; 13.51 kcal GE/g), treatment P3 (45.38%; 12.27 kcal GE/g), and treatment P4 (49.60%; 11.31 kcal GE/g). Eels used for this study were 6.5±0.3 g in average body weight. Eels were reared in a series of aquaria with dimension 90×40×40 cm3 and filled with 100 L of fresh water. Total weight of eel stocked in aquarium were 400 g. Eels were fed until satiated  twice a day at 8 am and 4 pm for 60 days. The result showed  that different protein level and energy protein ratio was significantly affected  growth performance (feed consumption, specific growth rate, feed efficiency, protein retention, and lipid retention), protein and fat of whole body eels at confident limit of 5%. In contrary, there was no significant different on the survival rate, hepatosomatic index, ash content, and nitrogen free extract of the body eel. The optimal growth performance was reached by dietary protein level and energy protein ratio of 45.38%; 12.27 kcal GE/g and 49.60%; 11.31 kcal GE/g. Keywords: Anguilla bicolor bicolor, energy protein ratio, feed, growth performance, protein  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan menentukan kadar protein dan rasio energi protein optimum yang dapat meningkatkan kinerja pertumbuhan ikan sidat A. bicolor bicolor fase pendederan. Empat macam perlakuan dan tiga ulangan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Perlakuan tersebut adalah P1 yang mengandung protein 37,66%; dengan rasio energi protein 14,75 kkal GE/g (37,66%; 14,75 kkal GE/g), perlakuan P2 (41,30%; 13,51 kkal GE/g), perlakuan P3 (45,38%; 12,27 kkal GE/g) dan perlakuan P4 (49,60%; 11,31 kkal GE/g). Bobot rata-rata ikan sidat yang digunakan adalah 6,5±0,3 g. Ikan sidat dipelihara dalam akuarium berukuran 90×40×40 cm3 dengan volume air 100 L. Total bobot ikan yang digunakan dalam setiap akuarium adalah 400 g. Ikan sidat diberi pakan sekenyangnya dengan frekuensi dua kali sehari yaitu pukul 08.00 dan pukul 16.00 WIB selama 60 hari. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pemberian kadar protein dan rasio energi protein pakan berbeda, memberikan pengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap kinerja pertumbuhan (jumlah konsumsi pakan, laju pertumbuhan spesifik, efisiensi pakan, retensi protein, retensi lemak), protein tubuh dan lemak tubuh, tetapi tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0,05) terhadap tingkat kelangsungan hidup, indeks hepatosomatik, kadar abu, dan bahan ekstrak tanpa nitrogen (BETN) tubuh ikan sidat. Kinerja pertumbuhan optimal dicapai oleh kadar protein dan rasio energi protein pakan 45,38%; 12,27 kkal GE/g dan 49,60%; 11,31 kkal GE/g.  Kata kunci: Anguilla bicolor bicolor, kinerja pertumbuhan, pakan, protein, rasio energi protein

Abstract

ABSTRACT The study was conducted to evaluate the performance of catfish fry grown using different dietary protein levels in the biofloc-base aquaculture system. Experiments using a completely randomized design, consisted of four treatments and three replications. The treatment consisted of:  protein 38% (A), 34% protein (B), 30% protein (C), and protein 26% (D). Catfish with initial weight of 0.83±0.01 g and length of 4.64±0.04 cm were cultured in 60 L tank with density of 90 fish each tank for 35 days. Inoculation of heterotrophic bacterial Staphylococcus lentus L1k were performed of 104 CFU/mL ratio of 15 was administrated once a day after two hours feeding in the morning. Feeding was conducted twice a day at 5% of the biomass weight. At the end of trial treatment (D) showed the highest survival rate (88.15±5.25%), the body lenght variance coefficient (9.58±0.51%) and protein retention (39.87±2.77%). Treatment (B) showed the highest growth rate (4.11±0.05%), total length (2.39±0.08 cm), and feed intake (318.76±4.63). Treatment (A) showed the highest feed efficiency (93.65±4.43%) while lowest lipid retention compared to others (22.20±1.20%.). Based on the results, it can be concluded that 34% protein feed (C) can replace 38% protein feed (B) catfish fry size 4−5 cm through biofloc-based system. Keywords: biofloc, fry, growth, protein, Staphylococcus lentus L1k ABSTRAK Penelitian bertujuan mengevaluasi kinerja pertumbuhan benih lele dengan menggunakan kadar protein pakan yang berbeda pada sistem bioflok. Percobaan dilakukan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap, terdiri atas empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Perlakuan terdiri atas protein 38% (A), protein 34% (B), protein 30% (C), dan protein 26% (D), terdiri atas empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Benih lele dengan berat rata-rata 0,83±0,01 g dan panjang rata-rata 4,64±0,04 cm dipelihara di akuarium berukuran 90×50×40 cm3 dengan padat tebar 90 ekor/akuarium selama 35 hari. Inokulasi bakteri heterotrof berupa Staphylococcus lentus L1k dilakukan pada setiap perlakuan kepadatan 104 CFU/mL. Penambahan sumber karbon berupa molase dengan C/N (Carbon/Nitrogen) rasio 15 diberikan satu kali sehari setelah dua jam pemberian pakan di pagi hari. Pakan diberikan dua kali sehari sebanyak 5% dari berat biomasa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian kadar protein pakan berbeda memberikan hasil yang positif. Perlakuan (D) menunjukkan tingkat kelangsungan hidup (88,15±5,25%), koefisien keragaman panjang (9,58±0,51%) dan retensi protein (39,87±2,77%) terbaik. Perlakuan (B) menunjukkan laju pertumbuhan harian (4,11±0,05%), panjang total (2,39±0,08 cm), dan jumlah konsumsi pakan (318,76±4,63) tertinggi. Perlakuan (A) menunjukkan efisiensi pakan (93,65±4,43%) tertinggi namun menunjukkan retensi lemak (22,20±1,20%) terendah. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa pemberian pakan dengan kadar protein 34% mempunyai performa pertumbuhan yang sama dibandingkan protein 38% pada benih ikan lele berukuran 4−5 yang dipelihara menggunakan sistem budidaya bioflok. Kata kunci: benih lele, protein, pertumbuhan, bioflok, Staphylococcus lentus L1k

Abstract

ABSTRACTCatfish farming has confronted with the problem of slow growth to reach the fillet size and less tender of fish fillets. This study aimed to investigate the effect of cinnamon leaf flour and shrimp head flour in formulated diets on growth of catfish Pangasianodon hypopthalamus. Catfish with an initial weight of 207.04 ± 2.70 g/fish reared in 12 cages with a dimension of  2×1×1.5 m3 (L×W×H)  and its fish density was 15 fishes for 60 days. Fish were fed with following experimental diets: (1) Control; (2) cinnamon leaf (1%) (CL); (3) 45% of protein source from shrimp head (SH); (4) CL+SH mix.  The fishes fed twice a day with feeding rate 3.5% of fish biomass. The study found that the use of cinnamon leaf and shrimp head increased the specific growth rate 1.67-1.70%, the feed efficiency 57.55-57.67%, and protein retention 55.61% compared to its control (P<0.05). Triglyceride level, cholesterol, and blood HDL were 416.00-524.05 mg/dL, 139.65-156.68 mg/dL, 73.18-103.70 mg/dL (P>0.05), respectively. HSI value ranged between 0.3-1.9% compared to its control (P<0.05).Keywords: Cinnamomum burmannii, feed, growth, Pangasianodon hypopthalmus, shrimp head.  ABSTRAKBudidaya ikan patin dihadapkan pada permasalahan pertumbuhan dan kualitas daging yaitu pertumbuhan yang lambat untuk mencapai ukuran fillet serta tekstur daging kurang kompak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji pengaruh penggunaan tepung daun kayu manis dan tepung kepala udang dalam pakan terhadap pertumbuhan ikan patin Pangasianodon hypopthalmus. Ikan patin dengan bobot 207,04 ± 2,70 g/ekordipelihara selama 60 hari di hapa sebanyak 12 buah (berukuran 2×1×1,5 m3)dengan padat tebar 15 ekor/jaring. Ikan diberi pakan perlakuan yang terdiri dari: (1) Kontrol; (2) daun kayu manis 1% (DKM); (3) 45% sumber protein dari kepala udang (TKU); dan (4) campuran DKM+TKU. Pemberian pakan sebanyak 2 kali sehari dengan feeding rate 3,5% dari biomassa ikan. Hasil dari penelitian penggunaan daun kayu manis dan kepala udang meningkatkan nilai laju pertumbuhan harian 1,67-1,70%, efisiensi pakan 57,55-57,67% dan retensi protein 55,61% dibanding kontrol (P<0,05). Kadar trigliserida, kolesterol, dan HDL darah berturut-turut adalah 416,00-524,05 mg/dL, 139,65-156,68 mg/dL, 73,18-103,70 mg/dL (P>0,05). Nilai HSI ikan patin berkisar antara 0,3-1,9% dibanding kontrol (P<0,05).Kata kunci: Cinnamomum burmannii, kepala udang, pakan, Pangasianodon hypopthalmus, pertumbuhan.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Zinc (Zn) supplementation on the quality and quantity of striped catfish sperm. Experimental design for this study was a complete randomized design with five treatments and five replications. Male broods fed with Zn supplementation for eight weeks. The Zn supplemented into the fish diet at different concentrations (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg/kg of feed). The results showed that Zn supplementation could improve the quality and quantity of striped catfish sperm. The treatments also showed significant effects on semen volume, sperm motility, sperm viability, and sperm concentration (P<0.05). Zn supplementation at a dose of 200 mg/kg feed demonstrated the best result has indicated by enhancement of quality and quantity of striped catfish sperm, increasing 51% of the volume, 11.6% of motility, 5.81% of viability, 54.1% of concentrations. The results suggested that Zn played an important role in improving reproductive performances of male striped catfish reproduction. Keywords: quality of sperm, a quantity of sperm, striped catfish, supplementation zinc                                                                                            ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh suplementasi Zinc (Zn) terhadap kualitas dan kuantitas sperma ikan patinPangasianodon hypophthalmus. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan  lima perlakuan danlima ulangan. Induk jantan diberi pakan dengan suplementasi Zn selama 8 minggu. Zn disuplementasikan dengan dosis berbeda (0, 50, 100, 150 dan 200 mg/kg pakan). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa suplementasi Zn dapat meningkatkan kualitas dan kuantitas sperma ikan patin sehingga berpengaruh signifikan terhadap volume semen, motilitas, viabilitas dan konsentrasi sperma (P<0,05). Suplementasi Zn pada dosis pakan 200 mg/kg menunjukkan hasil terbaik yang ditunjukkan oleh peningkatan kualitas dan kuantitas sperma ikan patin 51% volume; 11,6% motilitas; 5,81% viabilitas; 54,1% konsentrasi sperma. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Zn memainkan peran penting dalam meningkatkan reproduksi ikan patin. Kata kunci: kualitas dan kuantitas sperma, Ikan patin, suplementasi Zn

Abstract

ABSTRACT Carotenoids were known as pigment sources, the precursor of vitamin A, potential antioxidant and can improve the health status of fish. Furthermore, there are also studies that reveal the role of carotenoids in bone formation and metabolism. This study was conducted to determine the effect of different carotenoids at two different doses in the feed on growth, pigmentation, vitamin A conversion, blood profile, antioxidant activity, and calcium bone of the rainbow fish. Twenty-one aquariums with a volume of 20 L each stocked with 20 fish (1.08 ± 0.03 g of body weight and 4.56 ± 0.07 cm of body length). The experiment applied seven experimental diets (in triplicates) consisted of three types of carotenoids were astaxanthin (AS), canthaxanthin (CS), and lutein (LS) and two doses (130 and 260 mg/kg), i.e. AS-130, AS-260, CS-130, CS-260, LS-130, LS-260 and basal (without carotenoids) as the control. The fish were fed for 56 days of experimental period. The results showed that carotenoid diets were able to increase growth, total carotenoids, percentages of chromatophores, vitamin A conversion, erythrocyte, leukocytes, packed cell volume (PCV), neutrophils, and hemoglobin (Hb) compared to the control. Fish fed dietary astaxanthin at a level of 260 mg/kg was superior compared to other diets. Dietary carotenoids were also capable of decreasing the endogenous antioxidant activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malonyl dialdehyde (MDA) and increased the calcium level in fish bone than basal diet. Keywords: carotenoids, growth, health status, Melanotaenia parva, pigmentation  ABSTRAK Karotenoid diketahui sebagai sumber pigmen, prekursor vitamin A, antioksidan potensial dan dapat meningkatkan status kesehatan ikan. Selain itu, karotenoid juga memiliki peran dalam formasi dan metabolism tulang. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh jenis dan dosis karotenoid yang berbeda terhadap pertumbuhan, pigmentasi, konversi vitamin A, gambaran darah, aktifitas antioksidan dan kalsium tulang ikan rainbow Kurumoi. Sebanyak 20 ekor ikan (bobot tubuh rata-rata 1,08 ± 0,03 g dan panjang total rata-rata 4,56 ± 0,07 cm) dan diberi makan pakan yang mengandung karotenoid. Pakan uji terdiri atas tiga jenis karotenoid dengan tiga ulangan yaitu astaksantin (AS), cantaksantin (CS), dan lutein (LS) dan dua dosis (130 dan 260 mg/kg) dikodekan dengan AS-130, AS-260, CS-130, CS-260, LS-130, LS-260 dan basal (tanpa karotenoid) sebagai kontrol. Ikan diberi makan selama 56 hari pemeliharaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karotenoid dapat meningkatkan pertumbuhan, total karotenoid, persentase kromatofora, konversi vitamin A, eritrosit, leukosit, hematokrit, neutrofil, dan hemoglobin dibandingkan dengan kontrol. Ikan yang diberi pakan mengandung astaksantin 200 mg/kg lebih baik dibandingkan denga pakan uji lainnya. Pakan yang mengandung karotenoid juga mampu menurunkan antioksidan endogenus superoxide dismutase (SOD) dan malonyl dialdehyde (MDA), serta meningkatkan kalsium tulang ikan dibandingkan pakan kontrol. Keywords: Melanotaenia parva, karotenoid, pertumbuhan, pigmentasi, status kesehatan.
