Abstract

Introduction: Adolescent smoking continues to pose a major public health challenge, with the WHO reporting that nearly 22% of adolescents globally have tried smoking, and national data in Indonesia showing prevalence rates among junior high school students exceeding 10%. Early initiation not only increases the risk of long-term nicotine dependence but also disrupts physical and psychosocial development. This study analyzed the influence of smoke-free policy implementation, availability of smoking places, and exposure to cigarette advertisements on early smoking behavior among junior high school adolescents in the Tanjungsiang Health Center working area. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used with 101 randomly selected respondents, and data were collected using a validated questionnaire. Results: The findings revealed that most respondents were 14 years old and in grade VIII, with moderate smoking behavior as the dominant category. Stricter smoke-free area (KTR) implementation significantly reduced smoking behavior, while designated smoking places showed only a weak association.  In contrast, cigarette advertisement exposure showed no significant association. Conclusion: These results underscore the critical role of policy enforcement in curbing adolescent smoking. Strengthening KTR enforcement, particularly in schools and community environments, represents a practical strategy to prevent early initiation and promote healthier adolescent development in rural settings.

Abstract

Stunting is a major problem for babies and children under two years of age. Therefore, this condition must be addressed immediately because it can hinder the momentum of Indonesia's Golden Generation in 2045. To realize the Stunting Reduction Acceleration Program from the upstream, the BKKBN launched the "ELSIMIL" (Electronic Ready for Marriage and Pregnancy) application. A useful application to find out in advance the prospective bride and groom's preparations for the potential baby to be born by looking at the health condition of the prospective bride and groom. The aim is to increase (optimize) the use of the "ELSIMIL" application in preventing stunting through pocket book media at the Balowerti Health Center, Kediri City. The data collection technique uses observational techniques and the instrument used is a questionnaire. Then analyze the problem using SWOT and Fishbone. Based on the results of residency activities in the working area of the Balowerti Community Health Center, there are still toddlers with stunting found in the 2023 projection starting from January-March 2023, namely 118 toddlers from 5 sub-districts accompanied by the lack of optimal use of the "ELSIMIL" application in the working area of the Balowerti Community Health Center, Kediri City. So it can be concluded that the use of the "ELSIMIL" application is still not optimal in preventing stunting. The proposed use of pocket book media is one strategy that aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of mothers and their families in preventing stunting from an early age.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease which is a very serious health problem and the main cause of death throughout the world. This community service aims to increase knowledge of how to treat hypertension through education to the community. Service activities were carried out on Tuesday 21 March 2023 at Mitra Medika Bondowoso Hospital using lecture and discussion methods. with 25 participants to find out about hypertension in patients. The way to find out knowledge related to hypertension prevention and control behavior used in community service activities is to ask and answer questions directly to patients. Before being given education in the form of health education about asthma, participants were given a question and answer session and after delivering the material a question and answer session was held to find out the participants' knowledge about hypertension. The evaluation results showed that participants understood hypertension. Public knowledge about hypertension is increasing and people are motivated to get access to treatment and knowledge about how to recognize and prevent hypertension after health education is carried out. It is hoped that this community service activity can be carried out continuously to increase public knowledge regarding various other health problems.

Abstract

Congenital hypothyroidism can cause long-term detrimental effects, the main of which is mental retardation. There is a need for examination of newborns to detect congenital hypothyroidism with Congenital Hypothyroid Screening (SHK) which is carried out with the aim of detecting congenital disorders as early as possible in babies. The aim of the research was to determine the factors that influence maternal compliance in the congenital hypothyroid screening program at the Tumpang Community Health Center. Observational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population of all mothers with babies aged 0-28 days, was 135 respondents. The sample was 101 respondents with simple random sampling technique. Independent variables are motivation and promotional trategies. The dependent variable is mother’s compliance in the congenital hypothyroid screening program at Tumpang health center. The research instrument used a questionnaire that was carried out validity and reliability. The analysis used is univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis with logistic regression using SPSS 23. Research ethics Number: 001336/EC/KEPK/I/05/2024. The bivariate analysis carried out showed that there was a relationship between motivation factors and promotional strategies on maternal compliance with SHK, while the multivariate analysis showed that the most influential variable was the mother's motivation factor with a significance level of p=0.000. It is hoped that the results of the research conducted can serve as an appeal to mothers to comply with SHK procedures as an effort to improve their children's growth and development status.

Abstract

The implementation of triage in the Emergency Unit (ER) has an important role in determining the priority of patient handling quickly and appropriately. Errors in the division of triage such as under triage and over triage can have a serious impact on patient safety and service quality. One of the factors that affect the accuracy of triage division is the level of knowledge of nurses. Therefore, increasing nurses' knowledge is a strategic step to support accurate clinical decisions in the ER of Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado Hospital. This research aims to increase nurses' knowledge in the distribution of triage in the Emergency Unit of Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado Hospital through continuous training and evaluation activities. This study uses a descriptive method with a pre-test and post-test approach for implementing nurses in the ER. The number of respondents was 20 nurses who were selected in total sampling. The intervention was in the form of providing training on the concept, principles, and application of the triage system using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) standard. Data were analyzed descriptively to see an increase in knowledge scores before and after the intervention. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score of nurses from 65.5 before training to 88.7 after training. Most respondents experienced an increased understanding of patient priority criteria, critical vital signs, and determination of appropriate triage levels. Triage training activities have proven to be effective in increasing the knowledge of nurses in the Emergency Unit of Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado Hospital. Regular training and periodic supervision are needed to maintain the consistency of accurate triage implementation and improve the quality of emergency services.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between knowledge, perceptions, and subjective norms with adolescents’ attitudes toward gender equality at Darul Huffaz Islamic Boarding School, Pesawaran Regency. A quantitative cross-sectional design was applied with a population of 450 students and a sample of 127 male and female students from grades X–XII. Data were collected through questionnaires measuring knowledge, perception, subjective norms, and attitudes toward gender equality. Spearman’s correlation test was used as the data were not normally distributed. Most students showed positive attitudes toward gender equality, especially female students. However, some male students were less supportive of women’s roles in leadership and careers. Knowledge of gender equality among students remained low due to the absence of direct education from the boarding school. Perceptions were influenced by traditional values, and subjective norms reflected limited environmental support for gender equality. Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes (p=0.797), while both perception and subjective norms were significantly associated with attitudes (p=0.000). The study concludes that perceptions and subjective norms are significantly related to adolescents’ attitudes toward gender equality, while knowledge is not. Students with positive perceptions and supportive subjective norms are more likely to have favorable attitudes. These findings highlight the importance of education and environmental support in shaping adolescents’ attitudes toward gender issues.
