Abstract

Background: In East Java, the prevalence of stunting in toddlers exceeds the national average of 32.8%, while in Sampang Regency it reaches 47.9%. Stunting poses a significant challenge by hindering economic growth, exacerbating poverty, and widening socio-economic disparities. The research aims to analyze the relationship between family characteristics and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Sampang, Madura.Method: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design in Sampang Regency.  A total of 384 toddlers and their mothers participated as the research sample. The research variables included parental characteristics, anthropometric measurements of maternal height, and maternal knowledge status. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Pearson correlation inference test.Result: The test results showed that family social status had no significant influence on stunting among toddlers. However, maternal height significantly influenced the incidence of stunting, with a P-value of 0.030.  These findings highlight the importance of addressing maternal height as a determinant of toddler stunting. Thus, intervention needs to be given to adolescent girls to prevent toddler stunting.  Such interventions could include health education programs focused on improving adolescent nutritional status to increase growth. Efforts should prioritize adolescent girls before menarche to optimize height development and reduce the future stunting risk of their offspring.

Abstract

Gaming disorder is often found among children and adolescents. This disorder of self-control over games that cause addiction is defined by WHO as a behavioral disorder. Risk factors for gaming disorder come from internal factors and external factors. One of the significant external risk factors is parents' parenting style towards their children. Objective: To explored and analyze external risk factors for gaming disorders in adolescents related to parental parenting patterns. Methods: The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach using purposive and in-depth interview techniques. There were 12 informants, 8 of whom were primary informants and 4 of whom were key informants. The main informant was an adolescent mobile legends game player in Surabaya who was diagnosed with gaming disorder based on the results of a preliminary study using the gaming disorder instrument from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). Results: parenting patterns at risk are parenting patterns that pamper children, parenting patterns that lack control over parents, and parenting patterns that are indifferent and harsh. Conclusion: Ineffective parenting has an impact on teenagers' self-control, which has the potential to cause teenagers to fall into gaming addiction or gaming disorder. Keywords:  adolescents, gaming disorder, parenting style

Abstract

Experiments conducted with the COVID-19 dataset have predominantly concentrated on predicting cases fluctuating and classifying lung-related diseases. Nevertheless, the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic have also spread to the education sector. To safeguard educational stability in response to the remote learning policy, we leverage authentic COVID-19 datasets alongside school information across 154 sub-areas in Surabaya City, Indonesia. Our focus is predicting the dynamic within these sub-areas where schools are located. The outcomes of this study, by incorporating the recurrent neural network of long- and short-term memory (RNN-LSTM) architecture and refined hyperparameters, effectively enhanced the predictive model's performance. The findings are showcased on a dashboard, visually representing the transmission of COVID-19 in schools across each sub-area. This information serves as a basis for informed decisions on the safe reopening of schools, aiming to mitigate the decline in education quality during the challenging pandemic.

Abstract

Abstract

Stunting is a representation of chronic malnutrition throughout a time of growth and development from birth. Stunting can be caused by a variety of variables, including familial and toddler traits, as well as low dietary intake along with the prevalence of viral infections in children. This study intends to enhance housewives' understanding of preventing and overcoming stunting, as well as their abilities in using Moringa dodol maker (DOKERINA) for stunting prevention. The target in this service is mothers who visit the white jasmine Posyandu, totaling 30 people. This study used counseling methods and interactive discussions with the community, direct demonstrations on how to make Moringa dodol (Dokerina) by involving mothers at the posyandu, distribution of leaflets, administration of dokerina, cognitive tests. From the empowerment results, it was found that there was an increase in knowledge and skills, that is, the knowledge value increased by 37% from 60% to 97% and the skill value increased by 30% from 63% to 93%. It is hoped that related parties will continue to monitor the continuation of the Moringa dodol making program.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is inadequacy in physical growth. Stunting can be detrimental to children under five as it causes low intelligence, decreased endurance, and inhibited growth and development. This will increase risk of infections and non-communicable diseases in adulthood. The optimal implementation of family roles supports the improvement of nutritional status in toddlers so it can reduce the incidence of stunting.Method: This systematic review is written in accordance to the PRISMA guidelines. The process includes analysis on online articles from databases of ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar for the past five years the period from 2019 with the keywords "stunting and parents or family".Results: There are researches from eight articles related to the role and support of families in preventing stunting. Based on several syntheses reviewed, it was determined that culture can be an inhibiting factor in preventing stunting. Still, with local wisdom, it can also be a catalyst in reducing stunting itself. Culture is one of the specific nutrition interventions that can reduce the prevalence of stunting by emphasizing aspects of a mother as the “center of life”, family roles and support, and the role of fathers in preventing stunting. Families have an important role to play in preventing and managing the problem of stunting. Families play an important role in preventing stunting at every stage of life from fetus in the womb, to newborn, toddler, teenager, married, pregnant, and so on. Therefore, efforts to empower families are necessary.

Abstract

Background: According to Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), adolescents are aged 10-24 years and are not married. Indonesian Basic Health Research (RISKESDAS) 2018 showed around 58.8% of adolescents aged 10-19 years had been married and had had a pregnancy. The Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI) results revealed that risk behavior among male junior and senior high school students was around 8.06%, and female were 4.17%. This study aimed to determine the correlation between the Planning Generation (GenRe) Program knowledge and adolescents’ characteristics with dating experience in East Java Province. Method: This research was a cross-sectional study. Secondary data were collected from the 2019 Program Performance and Accountability Survey (SKAP) and were analyzed descriptively with cross-tabulation and chi-square tests. The risk estimate calculation was also carried out to identify the Odd Ratio (OR). The sample used was 5,300 adolescents in East Java Province after weighting. The research variables consisted of dating behavior in adolescents, age, gender, and adolescents' knowledge about GenRe, HIV/AIDS, drugs, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Adolescent Reproductive Health Program. Results: The results showed that 41.80% of adolescents in East Java had dated. There was a significant correlation between dating behavior with adolescents’ knowledge about GenRe, HIV/AIDS, drugs, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Adolescent Reproductive Health Program (P-Value = 0.00). Dating behavior also had a significant correlation with age (P-Value = 0.00) and gender (P-Value = 0.00). This study concluded that there was a correlation between dating behavior in adolescents in East Java Province with age, gender, and adolescents’ knowledge about GenRe, HIV/AIDS, drugs, Sexually Transmitted Infection (STIs), and Adolescent Reproductive Health Program. They were strengthening the GenRe program through the introduction, explanation of program activities, and the process of youth involvement. So far, teenagers only know the name of the GenRe program. This action needs to be applied to prevent negative effects caused by dating behavior, such as premarital sex, unwanted pregnancy, and early marriage.
