The objective of this study was to develop e-learning media by using ClassDojo forgrade tenth at MAN 2 Deli Serdang. This study was conducted by using Research andDevelopment design through six stages; gathering data and information, needanalysis, designing materials and media, validating, revising (final product). Thesubject of the study was grade tenth of MAN 2 Deli Serdang. The data were gatheredby reviewing documents, conducting interview to English teacher and distributtingquestionnaire to X MIA 3 consists of 31 students to get the students’ need. Theinterview and questionnaire result prove that the students need more interesting andup to date media to learn writing descriptive text. The developed writing media werevalidated by two experts which are the average scores (4.55 and 4.05) show that themedia are valid and suitable to use for grade tenth students of MAN 2 Deli Serdang.The result of product distributed to the students through ClassDojo.

This study aims to develop English writing assessment tasks of analytical exposition text for eleventh grade students of multimedia program at SMK Telkom Medan. This study was conducted by research and development (R & D) design through six phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new writing assessment tasks, validating by experts, revising writing assessment tasks, and final product. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students of multimedia program at SMK Telkom Medan. The instruments for collecting data were questionnaire and interview. The data were gathered by administering interview to the English teacher and distributing questionnaire to the eleventh grade students of multimedia program to get the students’ needs. The evaluators of the developed writing assessments were two experts namely an English lecturer and English teacher. The developed assessment in each task was authentic assessment that consists of three competences, such as, attitude competence, knowledge competence, and skill competence. The writing assessment tasks have been validated by experts. The average score are 3.6 based on the highest interval of numerical scale which was 4.00. In the form percentage, it got 91.3% so it was categorized “Very Good”. It means the developing English writing assessments are appropriate for the eleventh grade students of multimedia program at SMK Telkom Medan. This study was aimed to describe the English Teaching Methods in writing descriptive text and the problems faced by the teacher. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research design. The subject of this research was an English teacher of SMK NEGERI 1 Pulau Rakyat. The techniques of collecting data were by observing the process of teaching writing comprehension of descriptive text at X Grade students and interviewing the English teacher. The techniques of collecting data were observation and interview. This study found that the teacher at SMK NEGERI 1 Pulau Rakyat used the method in teaching writing descriptive text. The English teacher used the lecture method and discussion method to teach in the descriptive text and the students get difficulties in comprehending the material. The application lecture method and discussion method is not appropriate with scientific approach of 2013 Curriculum. The result and response from the students to the teacher’s method are still not effective. The teacher should not apply the methods in written but also in spoken. And the problems faced by the teacher were the first is about the lack of students’ vocabularies, and the second is about the students’ participations when work in group. This study also found that the teacher’s methods not integrated with the scientific approach of 2013 Curriculum. The implementation of methods in teaching writing should can make teaching learning process more interesting and help the students’ understanding and skill of writing comprehension better.Key words: Teaching Method, Writing, Descriptive Text.

DEVELOPING READING COMPREHENSION WORKBOOK FOR GRADE X HIGH SCHOOL Annisa Damayanti; Rahmad Husein; Isli Iriani Indiah Pane

The objective of this study was to supplement the reading comprehensionquestions by analysing the weakness regarding the levels and types of questions inthe textbook Contextual English for Grade X of Senior High Schools and todevelop a reading comprehension workbook for grade X based on Curriculum2013 and Barrett’s Taxonomy. It was found that this textbook contained too muchliteral question which was at 61.6% and only low number of high level questions(10.86%). From the preliminary finding, this workbook was then developed with210 questions and validated by teacher, lecturer, and also the students’ try out.The result of validation showed that the product was excellent. The average scorefor each aspect by the first validator was 87.36% (good) and then revise until thescore given by the second validator was 91.57% (excellent). The result ofstudents’ try out showed that the value of 0.4 on each exercises on the bookand was considered valid. From these result, it was concluded that by the designand content, the product is appropriate to be used for public.

The objective of this research was to develop English speaking materials of descriptive text for Tenth Grade students of Marketing Study Program at SMK based on scientific approach. The subjects of the research were grade X students of marketing study program at SMK Negeri 1 Medan. This research was classified as Research and Development (R&D). The research procedure was adapted from the research procedure proposed by Gall, Gall and Borg (2003). There were two questionnaires used to collect the data. The first questionnaire was used to collect data in need analysis while the second questionnaire was used to collect the data about the appropriateness of the materials in the expert judgment. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research findings showed that English speaking materials of descriptive text developed have met good characteristic and appropriate for grade ten students of marketing study program. It was indicated by the mean of expert judgments. The mean score for content is 3.5 which categorized as “Very Good”. The mean score for language is 3.8 which categorized as “Very Good”. The mean score for presentation is 3.5 which categorized as “Very Good”. The mean score for graphic is 3.75 which categorized as “Very Good”

The objective of this study were to develop Kamishibai media in writingdescriptive text for the tenth grade students at SMA YPI Amir Hamzah Medan.The subjects of this research were the tenth grade English teacher, and one classof the tenth grade students in SMA YPI Amir Hamzah Medan. This study wasconducted by using educational Research and Development (R & D) method. Thedata were collected through observation, interview, and questionnaire. Based onthe need analysis from questionnaire and interview, it was known that the studentsneeded a learning media that can make their teaching-learning process easier forthem to understand about the descriptive text and also make the students’experience in learning the descriptive text become interactive, especially in theprocess of writing. As result, the researcher developed Kamishibai for teachingwriting of descriptive text for the tenth grade students at SMA YPI Amir HamzahMedan. The score of validation from the validators was 91,4% and it wascategorized as relevant. It means that the media are valid and appropriate to use aslearning media of writing descriptive text for the tenth grade students at SMA YPIAmir Hamzah Medan.

This research was aimed to develop appropriate, interesting and attractive speaking media in teaching descriptive text for seventh grade students of MTsS UMMI Lubuk Pakam. Due to the result in the form of product, this study was categorized as Research and Development (R & D) study which adapted from Borg and Gall (1989) theory with some modifications. The subject of this study was the seventh grade students of MTsS UMMI Lubuk Pakam. In conducting this research, the procedures were gathering the data and information, conducting the need analysis, designing the first draft of media, revising the media, and producing the final product as the meme comic. The instruments of collecting data were the combination of two strategies; interview and questionnaires. The interview result was analyzed as qualitative data and the questionnaires analyzed as quantitative data. These data were needs of students covering target needs and learning needs. This study developed speaking media which only focused on descriptive text taught in the odd semester. These media was based on Curriculum 2013. This research aimed to find out the target and learning needs of Grade X SMA SWASTA MARISI MEDAN. Moreover, it had a goal to develop English materials for learning writing skills. This is a research and development (R&D) study. The subjects of this research were 25 students of Grade X SMA SWASTA MARISI MEDAN. The need analysis data were collected by using questionnaires and an interview. Then, the results of questionnaires were calculated through percentage. Thus, the highest percentage was considered as the needs of students. Meanwhile, the results of expert judgment were analyzed in the form of descriptive statistics. Three units of materials were developed in this research. Each unit consists of introduction, main lesson and reinforcement. These materials used Project-Based Learning as the approach in learning writing skill. The units covered some tasks as identify the generic structure, write a short paragraph and complete the sentences. Mostly, the themes used represented students’ knowledge about the popular places and person around them. According to the results of the expert judgment, the materials were very relevant to be used for Grade X SMA SWASTA MARISI MEDAN. Keywords: learning writing, writing, descriptive text

The objective of the study is to develop project assessment for student’s writing assessment of recount text and to design the appropriate assessment for Computer Network Enginering students grade X at SMK Negeri 2 Binjai. It used qualitative research method to collect and analyze the teacher’s authentic assessment. The data of the study were taken from English teacher of Computer Network Engineering grade X at SMK Negeri 2 Binjai. The findings showed from the existing assessment analysis, interview analysis, and questionnaires analysis. The average of the project assessment is 4,6 and the percentage is 92% The result showed that the development of project assessment at SMK Negeri 2 Binjai is categorized in “Very Good”, category. It showed that the development of project assessment categorized “Very Good” due to some obstacle and supporting factors. Project assessment development already measured the all aspects of writing skill. Keywords: Project assessment, development, writing, Computer Network Engineering.

This study aimed to find out the strategy on teaching English on Speaking skill which is implemented in SMA RK Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam. The research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative analysis. It was conducted in SMA RK Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam, especially the English teacher who taught for the eleventh grade students at SMA RK Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam. The data were gathered by administering interview and classroom observation. From the result of the analysis, it was found that the teacher used practicing dialogue and discussion as the strategy to teach the eleventh-grade students at SMA RK Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam. The strategy wasn’t going according to lesson plan goal. It was caused several things, such as; the teacher ran the class activity monotonously, there were less speaking activities in the class, the students didn’t have intention to be involved in class activity, and the students’ willingness was also low. Therefore the researcher believes that the teaching strategy by using discussions and practicing dialogue were not effective in teaching and learning process for the eleventh grade students at SMA RK Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam.
