Abstract

The research aims to increase critical thinking skills, interest in learning physics, and alternative energy materials through the PBL model. This type of research applies classroom action research (CA) with the subject of research being class X.5 students at SMA 4 Pekanbaru, totaling 36 students. CA is carried out in 2 cycles with the stages of each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection uses observation sheets, tests of critical thinking skills, and learning interest questionnaires. Data on critical thinking skills and interest in learning were analyzed descriptively through data obtained in cycles 1 and 2. The results of the research were: 1) students' critical thinking abilities increased from cycle 1 to cycle 2, based on observation results, it increased from the sufficient category in cycle I to the good category in cycle II and test results increased from middle category in cycle I to high category in cycle II, 2) students' interest in learning increased with a score of 76.08 in cycle I to 79.75 in cycle II with the same category, namely high. It was concluded that the application of worksheet students with the PBL model was able to improve the critical thinking skills and interest in learning of class X.5 students at SMA 4 Pekanbaru in learning physics about alternative energy materials.

Abstract

Based on the results of a needs analysis conducted by researchers on class VIII students at SMP Negeri 8 Pekanbaru regarding their perceptions of science learning at school, it is known that almost all class VIII students do not understand science lessons. This is due to the use of conventional teaching methods without the help of learning media. One of the facilities that is available and can be used is PhET Simulation. This research aims to determine the cognitive learning outcomes of physics science for class VIII students through the application of the PDEODE learning model assisted by PhET Simulation. This research uses a quantitative approach using experimental methods. The population of this research was class VIII students at SMP Negeri 8 Pekanbaru. Instruments and data collection techniques include posttest. Data analysis includes descriptive analysis with a focus on average student cognitive learning outcomes, as well as inferential analysis through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests. The research results show that the application of the PDEODE learning model with the support of PhET Simulation causes an increase in students' cognitive learning outcomes in physics subjects.

Abstract

The problem found from interviews with physics teachers at SMAN 1 Gaung who said that students' understanding of physics material was still low. This is due to the use of learning models that have not been varied so that students' understanding of physics concepts is still low. Efforts to improve students' concept understanding can be applied through learning using the Susan Loucks-Horsley model with a contextual approach. This study aims to improve students' concept understanding. The type of research used is quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group design. The population in this study were students of class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Gaung. The samples used were XI MIPA 1 class as the experimental class and XI MIPA 2 class as the control class taken by random sampling which had gone through normality and homogeneity tests. Data were determined through tests that were prepared based on seven indicators of concept understanding. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially to determine the category of explanation of students' concept understanding. The research results obtained from the N-gain test score in the experimental class amounted to 0.7 and the control class amounted to 0.3. The score results show that the understanding of the concept of experimental class students is higher than the control class. This research can be concluded that the Susan Loucks-Horsley model with a contextual approach can improve the understanding of the concept of students of class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Gaung.

Abstract

Implementing Project-Based Learning (PjBL) is an effective strategy for enhancing 21st-century skills. Integrating technology through Chamilo e-learning facilitates more interactive and engaging digital learning. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Chamilo e-learning-assisted PjBL model in schools and assess teachers' and students' confidence in its application. This research employs a survey method with random sampling involving five science teachers and 60 students. Data were collected through a questionnaire validated for reliability (KR-20 coefficient: 0.82 for teachers, 0.77 for students), covering three key aspects: (1) PjBL implementation in schools, (2) Chamilo e-learning utilization, and (3) the effectiveness of Chamilo e-learning-assisted PjBL in enhancing students' creative thinking and digital literacy. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive quantitative approach by calculating percentages for each measured aspect. The findings indicate that the Chamilo e-learning-assisted PjBL model is rarely implemented in schools. Most teachers have not applied this model to enhance students' creative thinking and digital literacy due to their limited understanding of PjBL and Chamilo e-learning. Furthermore, 100% of students reported never having learned using this model. The confidence level of teachers regarding the need for implementing Chamilo e-learning-assisted PjBL reached 80%, while students' confidence level was 88.5%. These results highlight the urgent need for systematic interventions to enhance the application of Chamilo e-learning-assisted PjBL in science education. This study suggests continuous teacher training to improve their competency in utilizing this model. Moreover, schools must ensure sufficient technological infrastructure and stable internet access to support its effective implementation, ultimately fostering students' creative thinking and digital literacy skills.

Abstract

The importance of practical implementation, especially in science subjects, is challenging for educators, students, and schools. Many findings are related to various obstacles and problems regarding implementing practicum in the laboratory, so the implementation is considered ineffective. This research aims to determine students' perceptions of implementing practicum in the science laboratory. This study used a survey method with a quantitative approach involving 96 respondents, consisting of 48 students in 8th grade at Junior High School 1 Kuantan Hilir and 48 students in 8th grade at Islamic Junior High School 1 Sentajo Raya. The instrument used was a questionnaire consisting of 26 statement items. The data collection technique was done by distributing questionnaires directly and then conducting descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate that students' perceptions of the practical implementation in the science laboratory are in a good category (72.50%). In general, the practical implementation in the science laboratory for grade 8 students at Junior High School 1 Kuantan Hilir and Islamic Junior High School 1 Sentajo Raya has been carried out well. It can be concluded that students have a good perception of the implementation of practicum in the science laboratory.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the differences in misconception levels between male and female students by utilizing the four-tier diagnostic test method on the concepts of temperature, heat, and expansion. Adopting a quantitative approach within descriptive research, the study involved 31 male and 34 female students who completed a test instrument comprising 10 multiple-choice questions. Each question was designed with four levels: a primary answer accompanied by a confidence rating, and a reason accompanied by a confidence level. The diagnostic test served as the data collection method, and the gathered data were analyzed through quantitative descriptive techniques. The findings indicate that misconceptions about temperature, heat, and expansion were observed among both male and female students, with respective rates of 23.87% and 23.82%, categorized as low. The analysis also revealed that the most frequent misconceptions occurred in the C2 cognitive domain (Understanding) with an average rate of 40%. These misconceptions primarily arise from students' misunderstandings of fundamental concepts.
