Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of fermentation duration on the bioethanol yield and to determine the optimal fermentation time using Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast. The research method involved several main stages: preparation of banana peel samples, acid hydrolysis (using H₂SO₄) to convert polysaccharides into glucose, and anaerobic fermentation. The fermentation times used in this study were 3, 5, 7, and 9 days with a constant concentration of Saccharomyces cerevisiae inoculum. The bioethanol content was measured using a distillation method followed by alcohol content measurement using an alcohol meter or gas chromatography (GC). The results showed that fermentation time had a significant effect on the bioethanol yield. The bioethanol content increased until it reached an optimal point on the 5th day (or adjust according to your data) with a content of ...%, and tended to decrease at longer fermentation times due to the depletion of nutrients in the medium and the accumulation of by-products that inhibited yeast growth. Based on these results, it can be concluded that banana peel waste is effective for use as a bioethanol substrate with an optimal fermentation time of 5 days.

Abstract

Glucose syrup is a product of starch hydrolysis that is widely used in the food industry and other industrial sectors. Currently, the production of glucose syrup is predominantly carried out through enzymatic processes due to their higher efficiency and environmental friendliness. Amylase enzymes play a crucial role in converting starch into simple sugars. This study aims to describe the role of amylase enzymes at each stage of glucose syrup production based on a literature review. The research method employed is descriptive research using a literature study approach, involving data collection from scientific journals, books, and other relevant literature sources. The data were qualitatively analyzed by examining the function of amylase enzymes during the liquefaction and saccharification stages. The results of the review indicate that α-amylase plays a role in the liquefaction stage by breaking down starch into dextrins, while glucoamylase functions in the saccharification stage by converting dextrins into glucose. The use of amylase enzymes can enhance process efficiency and produce glucose syrup with a higher glucose content. Therefore, amylase enzymes play an essential role in determining the success of enzymatic glucose syrup production.

Abstract

The largest contributor to waste generation in Indonesia comes from household organic waste, which has the potential to pollute the environment if not managed properly. Conventional biotechnology utilises the activity of natural microorganisms to process organic waste into useful products, making it a relatively simple and easy-to-implement alternative for household waste management. This article aims to review various methods of domestic organic waste treatment based on conventional biotechnology. The method used is a literature study of relevant research results and scientific publications. The results of the study show that composting, liquid organic fertiliser production, and eco-enzyme production are effective methods in reducing the volume of household organic waste. Microorganisms such as Lactobacillus sp. and decomposing fungi play an important role in converting organic waste into nutrients for plants and natural cleaning fluids. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of conventional biotechnology has the potential to support sustainable household organic waste management while reducing the impact of environmental pollution.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the comparison of tempeh fermentation efficiency between traditional methods and modern methods based on fermentation parameter control. The research method used was a systematic literature review of 23 accredited national journal articles indexed by SINTA and published between 2013 and 2024. Articles were selected based on inclusion criteria covering discussions on fermentation parameters, tempeh product quality, and fermentation method comparisons. Data were analysed descriptively and comparatively by examining aspects of fermentation time, quality consistency, product yield, and microbial contamination levels. The results of the study show that modern fermentation methods that apply temperature control and the use of standardised starters can shorten fermentation time by 18–24% compared to traditional methods. In addition, modern methods produce better quality consistency, as indicated by lower protein content and texture variation. Product yield also increased by 12–15%, accompanied by lower levels of pathogenic microbial contamination. These findings indicate that the application of modern fermentation methods has the potential to improve the efficiency and quality of tempeh production and can be a relevant alternative for the development of small and medium-scale tempeh industries without eliminating local food characteristics.

Abstract

Advances in genome sequencing technology have opened significant opportunities for the development of personalized medicine, but have also given rise to ethical complexities that require in-depth study. This study aims to identify and analyze key bioethical issues arising from the use of genomic data for personalized medicine research through a critical-normative literature review. A thematic analysis of the selected literature identified four key bioethical domains: autonomy and informed consent in the context of complex genomic data, privacy and data security facing the risks of leaks and misuse, fairness in access to genomic services, and the potential for genetic discrimination. Findings indicate that implementing the principle of autonomy faces technical challenges in conveying comprehensible information, while privacy issues require inadequate regulatory frameworks in many countries. Genetic discrimination in the context of insurance and employment poses a real threat that requires explicit legal protection. This study recommends the development of an integrative bioethical framework that connects classical ethical principles with the realities of genomic technology, strengthening genomic data protection regulations, and adapting informed consent mechanisms. Policy implications include the urgency of harmonizing regulations across countries and strengthening the capacity of research ethics committees to evaluate genomic research protocols

Abstract

Pembelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (IPA) menuntut siswa tidak hanya menguasai materi, tetapi juga mampu memahami konsep secara mendalam melalui aktivitas ilmiah dan keterlibatan aktif dalam proses belajar. Namun, hasil observasi di SMP Swasta Masyarakat Damai menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman konsep IPA siswa masih rendah, ditandai dengan nilai rata-rata hasil belajar di bawah KKM, partisipasi belajar yang pasif, serta kurangnya kemampuan mengaplikasikan konsep dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Kondisi ini disebabkan oleh penggunaan metode pembelajaran konvensional yang berpusat pada guru. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep IPA siswa kelas VII. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode pre-experimental dan desain One-Group Pretest-Posttest. Sampel penelitian adalah 32 siswa kelas VII-A yang dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Instrumen berupa tes objektif untuk mengukur pemahaman konsep IPA. Analisis data meliputi perhitungan skor pemahaman konsep dan uji N-Gain. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada pemahaman konsep IPA siswa. Rata-rata nilai pre-test sebesar 59,53 meningkat menjadi 75,62 pada post-test. Persentase kategori “baik” meningkat dari 40,62% menjadi 87,50% dan muncul kategori “sangat baik” sebesar 3,12%. Nilai N-Gain sebesar 0,38 termasuk dalam kategori efektivitas sedang. Selain itu, peningkatan terjadi pada semua indikator pemahaman konsep, yaitu menjelaskan, menerapkan, mengelompokkan, dan merepresentasikan konsep IPA. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep IPA melalui aktivitas kolaboratif, interaksi kelompok, dan tanggung jawab individu dalam menguasai materi. Dengan demikian, model Jigsaw dapat menjadi alternatif strategi pembelajaran yang relevan dan direkomendasikan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran IPA di SMP.

Abstract

Penerapan Kurikulum Merdeka menuntut guru mampu merancang pembelajaran yang fleksibel, berpusat pada peserta didik, serta sesuai dengan karakteristik dan konteks lokal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran dan strategi guru dalam mengimplementasikan Kurikulum Merdeka di UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Moro’o. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan teknik purposive sampling, melibatkan guru yang aktif dalam perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi proses pembelajaran. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif dan wawancara mendalam, kemudian dianalisis melalui proses reduksi, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan yang berorientasi pada kredibilitas temuan. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru memiliki peran strategis sebagai perencana pembelajaran, fasilitator, inovator, evaluator, serta penghubung antara kurikulum dan realitas lokal. Guru mampu menyusun Alur Tujuan Pembelajaran (ATP), mengembangkan pengalaman belajar yang kontekstual, serta mengintegrasikan lingkungan sosial dan budaya ke dalam proses pembelajaran sehingga kegiatan belajar menjadi lebih relevan, inklusif, dan berorientasi pada pengembangan kompetensi siswa. Tantangan yang muncul meliputi keterbatasan sarana prasarana, kesenjangan kemampuan peserta didik, variasi pemahaman terhadap modul ajar dan proyek, serta penyesuaian terhadap paradigma pembelajaran baru yang memberi ruang lebih besar pada kemandirian siswa. Dalam menghadapi hambatan tersebut, guru menerapkan strategi adaptif berupa Project Based Learning, Inkuiri Terbimbing, diferensiasi pembelajaran, hingga evaluasi autentik, disertai peningkatan kompetensi melalui pelatihan dan pemanfaatan platform digital. Strategi ini memungkinkan guru menyesuaikan praktik pembelajaran dengan kebutuhan siswa serta kondisi sekolah, sehingga Kurikulum Merdeka dapat diimplementasikan secara lebih optimal.

Abstract

Modern biotechnology, particularly genetic engineering, has been widely utilised in agriculture to improve the productivity and quality of food crops, including rice. This study aims to analyse the use of genetic engineering biotechnology in rice crops and its contribution to increasing agricultural yields and food security. The research method used was a literature study, reviewing various scientific journal articles discussing the application of genetically engineered rice. The results of the study show that genetic engineering in rice plants can increase resistance to pests and diseases, tolerance to extreme environmental conditions, and higher yields. However, its application still faces a number of challenges, including food safety issues, potential environmental impacts, and public acceptance. Thus, the use of genetic engineering biotechnology in rice plants has great potential in supporting sustainable agriculture, but it needs to be accompanied by clear regulations, strict supervision, and continuous socialisation to the public.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Augmented Reality is a technology that integrates two- and three-dimensional virtual objects into real-world environments in real time, thereby enhancing the visualization of abstract concepts in science learning. Although the use of digital media in education continues to expand, the development of Augmented Reality–based student worksheets (LKPD) that are comprehensively validated in terms of validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving junior high school students’ learning interest in the human respiratory system remains limited. Therefore, innovative instructional materials that are not only engaging but also empirically grounded are needed. This study aims to develop and examine the feasibility, students’ responses, and effectiveness of an Augmented Reality–based LKPD in enhancing the learning interest of eighth-grade students at SMP Swasta Kristen BNKP Gunungsitoli. The study employed the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), which included needs analysis, product design, expert validation and staged trials, and limited dissemination. The research instruments consisted of expert validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and a learning interest questionnaire. The findings indicate that the developed product achieved feasible to highly feasible criteria based on expert validation, received very strong responses across all trial stages, and was highly effective in improving students’ learning interest. Theoretically, these findings affirm that integrating Augmented Reality into student worksheets strengthens a constructivist approach through interactive visualization that enhances students’ cognitive and affective engagement, while contributing to the development of technology-integrated science instructional materials at the junior high school level. ABSTRAK Augmented Reality adalah teknologi yang mengintegrasikan objek virtual dua dan tiga dimensi ke dalam lingkungan nyata secara real-time sehingga mampu meningkatkan visualisasi konsep abstrak dalam pembelajaran IPA. Meskipun pemanfaatan media digital terus berkembang, pengembangan LKPD berbasis Augmented Reality yang teruji secara komprehensif dari aspek validitas, kepraktisan, dan efektivitas terhadap minat belajar siswa SMP pada materi sistem pernapasan manusia masih terbatas, sehingga diperlukan inovasi bahan ajar yang tidak hanya menarik tetapi juga memiliki dasar empiris yang kuat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan menguji kelayakan, respons peserta didik, serta efektivitas LKPD berbasis Augmented Reality dalam meningkatkan minat belajar siswa kelas VIII SMP Swasta Kristen BNKP Gunungsitoli. Penelitian menggunakan model pengembangan 4D (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) melalui tahapan analisis kebutuhan, perancangan produk, validasi ahli dan uji coba bertahap, serta penyebarluasan terbatas. Instrumen penelitian meliputi angket validasi ahli, angket respons peserta didik, dan angket minat belajar. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa produk berada pada kategori layak hingga sangat layak berdasarkan validasi ahli, memperoleh respons sangat kuat pada seluruh tahapan uji coba, serta efektif meningkatkan minat belajar dengan kategori sangat baik. Secara teoretis, temuan ini menegaskan bahwa integrasi AR dalam LKPD memperkuat pendekatan konstruktivistik melalui visualisasi interaktif yang meningkatkan keterlibatan kognitif dan afektif siswa, sekaligus memperkaya model pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran IPA berbasis teknologi. Dengan demikian, LKPD yang dikembangkan dinyatakan valid, praktis, dan efektif serta memiliki relevansi implementatif pada konteks pembelajaran IPA SMP.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Teaching materials play an important role in the learning process as they serve as guidelines for teachers in delivering instructional content and as learning resources for students. However, the teaching materials used in schools are still dominated by conventional forms that are less engaging and have not fully supported the optimal development of students’ scientific literacy. This condition indicates the need for innovative teaching materials that are more contextual, interactive, and capable of increasing students’ engagement in science learning.This study aims to develop and evaluate the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of science literacy–based science magazine teaching materials on the topic of the excretory system for eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Botomuzoi. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects included material experts, language experts, design experts, and eighth-grade students. Data were collected through expert validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests.The results showed feasibility levels of 85.46%, 84.4%, and 86.6% from the respective experts, all categorized as very feasible. The practicality level reached 96.95% (very practical), while the effectiveness test indicated a 90.32% learning mastery level (very effective). Therefore, the science literacy–based science magazine is appropriate to be used as an innovative teaching material to improve students’ scientific literacy. ABSTRAK Bahan ajar memegang peranan penting dalam proses pembelajaran karena berfungsi sebagai pedoman bagi guru dalam menyampaikan materi sekaligus sebagai sumber belajar bagi peserta didik. Namun, bahan ajar yang digunakan di sekolah masih didominasi oleh bentuk konvensional yang kurang menarik dan belum sepenuhnya mampu mendukung pengembangan literasi sains peserta didik secara optimal. Kondisi ini menunjukkan perlunya inovasi bahan ajar yang lebih kontekstual, interaktif, dan mampu meningkatkan keterlibatan peserta didik dalam pembelajaran sains. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan serta mengevaluasi kelayakan, kepraktisan, dan efektivitas bahan ajar berupa Majalah IPA berbasis literasi sains pada materi sistem ekskresi bagi peserta didik kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 1 Botomuzoi. Penelitian menggunakan metode Research and Development (R&D) dengan model ADDIE yang meliputi tahap Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation. Subjek penelitian meliputi validator ahli materi, ahli bahasa, ahli desain, serta peserta didik kelas VIII. Data dikumpulkan melalui angket validasi ahli, angket respons peserta didik, dan tes hasil belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tingkat kelayakan sebesar 85,46%, 84,4%, dan 86,6% dari masing-masing ahli dengan kategori sangat layak. Tingkat kepraktisan mencapai 96,95% (sangat praktis), sedangkan efektivitas menunjukkan ketuntasan belajar 90,32% (sangat efektif). Dengan demikian, Majalah IPA berbasis literasi sains layak digunakan sebagai bahan ajar inovatif untuk meningkatkan literasi sains peserta didik.
