Abstract

 AbstractThe purpose of this research was to know the effectiveness of using Visual Narrative in increase the students’ vocabulary achievement to the eight grade student of MTsN 1 Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. The problem of this research was design to investigate the effectiveness of the use Visual Narrative towards students’ vocabulary achievement. This research applied pre-experimental method. The research used one group of pre-test and post-test designed. The sample was 40 students of eight grade students of MTs Negeri 1 Pontianak. The technique to collect the data was measurement technique. The form of test was multiple choice and matching words, consist of 30 items of verbs and nouns about the story in the comic. The result of the research shows a good result that shown by the mean score of the students that increased from 63.32 (average to good) to 80.57 (good to excellent). Further, the result of t-test calculation is 10.29 which is bigger than t-table. Finally, based on the computation of the t-test and effect size, the Alternative Hypothesis is accepted and the Null Hypothesis is rejected. In conclusion, the use of Visual Narrative is effective to increase students’ vocabulary to the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri 1 Pontianak in Academic Year 2014/2015. Key words : Vocabulary, Visual Narrative, Comic

Abstract

AbstractThis research was done to know how the use of word wall as the media can improve students’ vocabulary on descriptive text especially on adjective words. This research is designed as a classroom action research on the second grade students of SMP LKIA Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The researcher used observation checklist, field notes, and test to collect data. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result showed that the students’ vocabulary in each cycles has improved during their discussion and performance in applying each steps of word wall. The students discussed in a group in selecting the words, pictures were also functioned to help them finding the meaning of the words. The students interacted with each other to finish their work sheet. They gave and asked for opinions to each other in the process of selecting the words. The teacher also took a role in that process. Although, some students did not speak up, they still paid attention to their groups. When they performed their word wall, each student had their roles. The improvement of students’ vocabulary is also shown by mean score of the students’ tests. In the first cycle, the students’ mean score was 50.45 it increased to 76.02 in the second cycle. In conclusion, the findings confirmed that the use of word wall as a media can improve students’ vocabulary on descriptive text. Key words: Descriptive text, Vocabulary, Word wall

Tujuanpenelitianiniadalahuntukmengetahuibagaimanametode Think Pair Share digunakanuntukmeningkatkankemampuansiswadalammenulisteks report, denganharapanbahwapenelitianini bias bergunabagi guru dansiswadalam proses belajarmengajar.Metode yang digunakandalampenelitianiniadalahpenelitiantindakankelas yang terdiridariperencanaan, tindakan, observasidanrefleksi.Penelitimenggunakanduasiklusuntukmendapatkanhasil yang maksimal.Subjekpenelitianiniadalahsiswa SMA PGRI kelas X tahunakademik 2012/2013 yang berjumlah 30 siswa.Technique yang digunakanuntukmemperoleh data dalampenelitianiniadalahpengukurandanobservasilangsung.Alatpengumpulan data adalahtest tertulis, checklist, danlembarancatatan. Abstract: The research is about improvingability on writing report text through Think-Pair-Share to the Tenth Grade Students of SMAPGRI I Pontianak in AcademicYear 2012/2013. The objective of the study is to know how the TPS improves the Students ability in writing report text. It is expected that the research would be useful for the teachers and students in language teaching and learning process. The method used in this research is a Classroom Action Research which consists of Planning, Acting, Observing and Reflecting. This method is done in two cycles in order to get the maximum result of the research.The subject of the study is the Tenth Grade Students of SMP PGRI I Pontianak in AcademicYear 2012/2013. The number of research participant is 30 students. The technique used for collecting data measurement technique and direct observation technique. The tools of collecting data arewritten test, observation checklist and field notes. In Cycle 1, the students mean score was 75.0. and cycle 2, the mean score was 79.16. Based on the minimum standard of pass (KKM), that is 65, the mean score of the first cycle was high and even more the second cycle. It means, the writer just does the research on two cycles. Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bahwa SQ3R Technique dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca teks narativ siswa kelas tujuh Mts Miftahussaadah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dengan 3 kali putaran. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 24 siswa. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan test, field note dan observation checklist. Hasil tes tersebut dibandingkan dengan nilai KKM Mts Miftahussaadah. KKM nya adalah 65. Hasil penelitian pertama 50, kedua 65 dan ketiga 71.25. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemahaman membaca siswa kelas tujuh Mts Miftahussaadah berhasil meningkat lebih baik dengan menggunakan SQ3R Technique. Kata kunci: Reading Comprehenstion, Narrative Text, SQ3R Abstract: The purpose of this research is to know how SQ3R Technique can improve the students reading comprehension on narrative text to the seventh grade students of MTs Miftahussaadah. The methodology of this research is a classroom action research which consisted 3 cycles. The subject consisted 24 students. The data were collected using the test, field note and the observation checklist. The result of the test was judged by using KKM. The KKM of Mts Miftahussaadah was 65. The result of the first cycle was 50, the second cycle was 65, and the third cycle was 71.25. Abstract

Siswa kelas XI SMA Koperasi Pontianak kurang termotivasi dalam berpartisipasi belajar Bahasa Inggris, khususnya pada aspek berbicara. Oleh karena itu, penerapan teknik Agony Column untuk meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam berbicara, dalam hal usaha dan ketekunan siswa. Metode penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang diterapkan pada 27 siswa kelas XI SMA Koperasi Pontianak. Pengumpulan datanya melalui pengamatan dan angket. Hasilanalisis data pengamatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan motivasi pada siklus pertama dan kedua. Hasil motivasi siswa pada siklus pertama adalah rendah sekitar 31% dan meningkat menjadi sedang sekitar 52% pada siklus kedua. Hasil analisis angket menunjukkan respon siswa tehadap usaha belajar 67%, ketekunan belajar 68%, dan keikutsertaan menggunakan Agony Column 71%. Abstract: Most of eleventh grade students SMAKoperasi were less motivated in participating in English learning classroom activity, especially in speaking activity. Therefore, Agony Column technique was applied to improve students motivation in speaking in terms of students effort and persistence. This study was conducted by applying classroom action research on the 27 students of the eleventh grade of SMAKoperasiPontianak. The data were collected by using observational data and questionnaire. Based on the data revealed in observation, there were improvements in students motivation from the first and second cycle. Students motivation in first cycle score was 31% which was in the low motivation and became 52% in second cycle which was in the moderate motivation. Then, based on the data revealed in questionnaire, it was found that students responses in effort was 67%, in persistence was 68%, and their participating by Agony Column was 71%. Abstract

AbstractThe present research was an attempt to systematically investigate the improvement of teaching collaborative strategic reading (CSR) technique on students’ reading comprehension of descriptive texts in Year-8 of “SMP Negeri 18 Pontianak” in the academic year of 2016/2017. The research was a classroom action research which consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. It was done in three cycles. The subject of the research was Learning Group VIIID with 35 students. The data were collected by an observation and measurement technique. The tools were observation checklist, field note and reading test to observe the students’ behaviors in the classroom. The result showed that the students could comprehend a descriptive text because the teaching and learning behaviors were improved. The improvement of the behavior of students and teacher in the classroom affected the improvement of students’ skill in reading. Sharing in group discussion made students’ social skill getting better and more active in the classroom. Therefore, the students’ achievement was improved significantly. As a conclusion, the problems that the students faced could be solved through group discussion using CSR technique. Keywords: Collaborative Strategic Reading, Reading Comprehension, Descriptive Text

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to find out the level of effectiveness of the use shrinking story strategy in teaching speaking narrative monologue to twelfth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Semparuk in academic year 2013/2014. This research was a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research were twelfth science grade students. The samples of this research were twelfth science one students. The technique of data collecting was measurement technique. The data were collected by applying pre-test and post-test through speaking narrative monologue performance orally and were analyzed by using speaking scoring criteria. The final computation shows that the effect size of the treatment is 1.55 (>0.8) and considered strong effect. It proves that the use of shrinking story strategy is highly-effective to teach speaking narrative monologue to twelfth science students. Key Words: Teaching, Narrative Monologue, Shrinking Story. Abstrak: penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menetahui tingkat keefektifan pengunaan strategy shrinking story dalam mengajarkan berbicara naratif dalam bentuk monolog kepada siswa kelas dua belas tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah penelitian eksperimental dengan rancanggan satu grup pre-test dan post-test. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa-siswa kelas dua belas ilmu alam. Sample penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas duabelas ilmu alam satu. Teknik pengumpulan data adalah teknik pengukuran. Data-data diambil dengan menerapkan pre-test dan post-test melalui penampilan berbicara naratif monolog secara lisan dan kemudian dianalisa menggunakan criteria penilaian berbicara. Perhitungan akhir menunjukkan bahwa effect size dari perlakuan adalah 1.55 (>0.8) dan dikatakan tinggi. Hal tersebut membuktikan bahwa penerapan strategy shrinking story sangat efektif untuk mengajar berbicara naratif monolog pada siswa kelas duabelas ilmu alam. Kata kunci: pengajaran, monolog naratif, shrinking story.

Abstract

This research aims to tell SPEAKING model that happened in conversation of Talk Indonesia on Metro TV which can be implemented for teaching and learning process in classroom. The research method that used is descriptive- qualitative. The subject of this research is three editions of Talk Indonesia on Metro TV. The results of data analysis showed that the setting of place and scene are also influencing the psychological situation of the conversation. The speakers are from different backgrounds to talk the linear topics through their backgrounds. The role of speaking is based on sequence structure of turn taking. The conversation is casual, joyful and light-hearted which sometimes produced code mixing, code switching and based on norms of interaction and interpretation Keywords: SPEAKING model, Conversation, Metro TV   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui model SPEAKING yang terjadi di percakapan Talk Indonesia di Metro TV yang dapat diimplementasikan untuk proses belajar mengajar di dalam kelas. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif-qualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah tiga edisi Talk Indonesia di Metro TV. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa setting tempat dan suasana adalah mempengaruhi situasi psikologi pada percakapan tersebut. Para pembicara berasal dari latar belakang yang berbeda untuk membicarakan topic yang linear dengan latar belakang mereka. Alur berbicara didasarkan pada struktur alur dari mengambil giliran. Percakapan tersebut adalah kasual, menyenangkan dan bersuka ria yang terkadang menghasilkan campur kode, alih kode dan berdasarkan pada norma-norma pada interaksi dan interpretasi. Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to provide information about the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary through riddle. The method of this research is a pre-experimental research. The data were taken from the objective test that was given to students. The test consists of 25 items of pre-test and 25 items of post-test, in the form of short-answer questions (riddle). This research was done to 31 students as the sample. From the result of the analysis, the researcher found that there is the improvement of the students’ mean score. The students’ mean score of post-test is higher than the students’ mean score of pre-test. The result of t-test was higher than t-table. The effect size of the using riddle in teaching vocabulary on the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Bengkayang  in academic year 2013/2014 is 1.97 (One point ninety seven) which qualified high. Based on that, it can be concluded that the use of riddle in teaching vocabulary can increase students’ English vocabulary.   Key word: Riddle, Vocabulary.   Abstract: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyampaikan informasi mengenai keefektifan dalam pengajaran kosa kata melalui penggunaan Riddle (teka-teki). Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pre-Experimental research. Data diambil melalui tes objektif yang diberikan kepada siswa. Tes yang terdiri darri 25 item pre –test dan 25 item post-test,  dalam bentuk pertanyaan singkat (Riddle/teka-teki). Dari hasil analisis, peniliti menemukan peningkatan pada nilai rata-rata siswa. Nilai rata-rata post-test siswa lebih tinggi dari nilai rata-rata pre-test nya. Nilai t-test lebih tinggi dari Nilai t-table. Nilai effect size dari penggunaan riddle dalam pengajaran kosa kata adalah 1. 97 yang dikualifiaksikan pada level tinggi. Berdasarkan hal itu, dapat disimpulakn bahwa penggunaan riddle dalam pengajaran kosakata dapat meningkatkan pemahaman kosa kata bahasa inggris siswa.   Kata Kunci: Riddle (teka-teki), kosakata.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini fokus pada pengajaran intonasi bahasa Inggris yang menggunakan Jazz Chants sebagai teknik mengajar. Tujuan melakukan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah Jazz Chants efektif untuk mengajarkan intonasi untuk siswa kelas lima sekolah dasar. Penelitian dilakukan dalam bentuk penelitian pra eksperimental pada pengajaran intonasi dengan menggunakan Jazz Chants. Teknik pengukuran yang digunakan, khusus untuk mengukur prestasi siswa dan dilakukan melalui tes berbicara. Berdasarkan analisis data, ditemukan bahwa ukuran efektifitas dari penelitian ini adalah 1,03. Sebelum pengajaran, nilai rata-rata pre-test adalah 62,22, dikategorikan sebagai rata-rata yang rendah. Setelah mereka menerima pengajaran, nilai rata-rata post test meningkat menjadi 70,22. Hasilnya nilai siswa post-test lebih baik dari pre-test. Ini berarti bahwa ada peningkatan prestasi siswa sebelum dan setelah pengajaran. Kata Kunci: Intonasi Inggris, Jazz Chants, Efektif Abstract: This research is focus on teaching English intonation that use Jazz chants as a teaching technique. The aim of conducting this research is to know whether jazz chants is effective to teach intonation to the fifth grade students of elementary school. The researcher conducted a pre experimental study on teaching English intonation using jazz chants. The measurement technique was used specifically to measure the students achievement and it was done through speaking test. Based on data analysis, it is found that the effect size of this research is 1.03. Before the treatment the mean score of pre-test (62.22) is categorizes as poor to average. After they received the treatment the mean score of the post test increases to 70.22. The result the students post-test is better than pre-test.
