Abstract

This study explores the plant literacy of high school students in the Mentawai Islands using a quantitative approach that integrates data inventory, processing, and reporting. A survey method was utilized, involving 302 students from three schools, to evaluate their understanding of plants across nominal, functional, structural, and multidimensional levels. Research instruments were validated for reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.973, ensuring robust data collection. Findings reveal low plant literacy levels across all dimensions, with significant challenges in identifying plants and contextualizing biodiversity concepts. The study underscores the necessity of innovative, contextual learning methods, including practical and exploratory approaches to improve plant literacy. Recommendations include integrating local biodiversity into educational curricula and promoting nature-based activities to enhance students' ecological awareness and comprehension.

Abstract

Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is a crucial horticultural commodity in Indonesia, necessitating expansion to meet the growing food demands. The formulation of carriers with probiotics is a promising solution for improving red chili growth. This study examines how the combination of carriers containing bacteria and Trichoderma from the intestines of Hermetia illucens larvae affects the growth of red chili cultivar Lembang-1. The research method used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with six treatments. The treatment consisted of a group with the addition of a kaolin carrier with bacteria and Trichoderma (BTrK), a talc carrier with bacteria and Trichoderma (BTrT), a zeolite carrier with bacteria and Trichoderma (BTrZ), and a control group without a carrier (KtC), a positive control (K(+)), and a negative control (K(-). The Least Significant Difference (LSD) test showed that the addition of carriers affected increasing plant height and the number of branches compared to the negative control. Specifically, BTrK demonstrated the highest number of leaves and branches. The result concluded that adding carriers with probiotics from the intestine isolate of BSF larvae contributes to the improved growth of red chili. The implementation of carrier addition with probiotics is considered to be a sustainable strategy in agriculture.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Learning is a process of learning activities to acquire knowledge. The learning process in the classroom should be directed towards being able to understand the information obtained and relate it to everyday life. The purpose of this research was to obtain information on effect the integration of chunking techniques and writing is thinking on students' thinking levels on the material of human reproductive system. The method used in this study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest and posttest design. The subjects of this study were 56 students of class XI MIPA at a Senior High School in Tasikmalaya City who were selected through a purposive sampling technique. The instruments in the study used multiple choice questions and essay questions. The findings showed that students whose learning process used the integration of chunking techniques and writing is thinking had an effect on students' thinking levels. The integration of chunking techniques and writing is thinking can help process information by breaking down information into simpler pieces of information to make it easier for students to process the knowledge they have acquired and then write the information they have obtained into simpler language so as to help students in the learning process.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the reflective thinking skills of students as prospective teachers in the invertebrate zoology course through an analysis of the learning process of the literature provided during lectures. The research method used was the case study of the invertebrate zoology lecturing process. The instruments in this study were observation sheets, task analysis used in lectures, and a questionnaire about students' perceptions of lecture activities. The results showed that the Invertebrate Zoology lectures only focused on concepts or theories and did not provide reflective thinking skills. Therefore, Zoology lectures have not shown a balanced mastery of concepts and reflective thinking skills.ABSTRAK: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menggali kemampuan berpikir reflektif mahasiswa calon guru pada mata kuliah zoologi invertebrata melalui analisis proses pembelajaran hingga analisis literatur yang diberikan selama perkuliahan.

Abstract

Plant blindness is a problem related to a person's inability to realize, recognize, and know the benefits and roles of plants. After some research, there was a shift in the term, from Plant Blindness to Plant Awareness Disparity. This study aims to find out the prevalence of Plant Blindness in three high schools in West Java. The method used in this study is descriptive Cross sectional. The results of this study revealed that there were differences in the level of plant awareness in the three schools studied. One of the schools in the city of Bandung showed the highest plant awareness rate. In addition, it was also found that students who had a high level of plant awareness had a high perception of plant awareness. As a follow-up, further research can be carried out to collect more data so that it becomes a whole population. In addition, researchers can then use additional instruments so that more things can be revealed about plant blindness.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze students' oral communication skills using the Citizen Science Project (CSP) based digital encyclopedia of mammals in learning. This research combines digital technology, community involvement, and the development of scientific communication skills as a novelty. The method used was descriptive quantitative with data collection techniques through observation. The research subjects consisted of 30 prospective teacher students of the Biology Education Study Program at a private university in Bandung. The instrument used was an observation sheet on oral communication skills. The results showed that most students scored good or sufficient. The average value on indicators 1-6, namely being able to provide information or ideas by 75%, including the good category, mastering the material to be used as presentation material by 70%, including the sufficient category, delivering report results systematically and clearly by 75% including the good category, questioning skills by 70% including the sufficient category, being able to answer questions by 75% including the good category, and confidence by 70% including the sufficient category. The percentage value of the active indicator in group discussions is 95%, which is included in the very good category. Based on these data, communication skills are critical because they allow students to convey ideas, work together, and exchange information. Students' oral communication skills can be improved by continuing to train and provide opportunities for students to communicate orally on an ongoing basis based on CSP.
