Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a Problem-Based Learning Values Clarification Technique (PBLVCT) model for teaching the human respiration system and to evaluate its effectiveness in enhancing students' critical thinking skills. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. Two groups, selected through convenience sampling, were used as research samples. Data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests in both groups, and analyzed using the Paired Sample T-test to identify differences in critical thinking skills between the groups after the intervention. Additionally, the N-Gain test was used to assess improvements in critical thinking skills. During the learning process, students were supported with electronic Learner Worksheets (e-LKPD) to facilitate adherence to the learning model's syntax. The results indicated a significant increase in students' critical thinking skills following the implementation of the PBLVCT model, with the experimental class showing a higher N-Gain value compared to the control class. Therefore, teaching Biology with an integrated character values through the PBLVCT model can enhance students' critical thinking skills, enabling them to address social issues in their environment and develop sustainable solutions that benefit both themselves and their communities. This research is expected to contribute to the development of teaching methods and curricula, particularly in enhancing and innovating the implementation of character education in schools. Keywords: Problem Based Learning Values Clarification Technique (PBLVCT) model, Critical thinking skills, Respiration system in humans.

Abstract

The importance of fungal attack to acarina has been observed but not yet on Tetranychus kanzawai. When infected mite, either within in a same  species or even in a different  species of  entomopathigenic probably  have  similar signs and simptoms to mites.  Characteristic of entomopathogenic fungus to Tetranychus kanza-wai was investigated. Three selected isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae, from Philippines and Indonesia were evaluated. The following aspects were investigated: (1) Bioassay tes of virulence, (2) Koch Postulate and (3) Infection process on each fungus against mite. Virulence of  Metarhizium anisopliae was 1.4 X 103, 7.2 X 102 , 5 X 102 PIB per ml on Ma4, Ma5 and Ma6, respectively. On Koch Postulates, Reinoculation and reisolation of all seven isolates from infected T. kanzawai showed definite signs of infection. This demonstrated its entomopathogenic capacity. In this experiment, adult mites were sprayed with 108 per ml concentrations of conidia observed under light microscope and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The result found  T. kanzawai was very susceptible to three isolates M. anisopliae. In the end of the trials, fungal growth was detectable as early as 2 until 4 days of observation. Infection process with microphoto-graph and Scanning Electro Microscopy showed attachment, germination and penetration, extrusion and conidiogenesis fungal form. Keywords: Infection, Tetranychus kanzawai, Metarhizium anisopliae, Light micros-copy, Scanning Electro Microscopy (SEM)

Abstract

Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is a crucial horticultural commodity in Indonesia, necessitating expansion to meet the growing food demands. The formulation of carriers with probiotics is a promising solution for improving red chili growth. This study examines how the combination of carriers containing bacteria and Trichoderma from the intestines of Hermetia illucens larvae affects the growth of red chili cultivar Lembang-1. The research method used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with six treatments. The treatment consisted of a group with the addition of a kaolin carrier with bacteria and Trichoderma (BTrK), a talc carrier with bacteria and Trichoderma (BTrT), a zeolite carrier with bacteria and Trichoderma (BTrZ), and a control group without a carrier (KtC), a positive control (K(+)), and a negative control (K(-). The Least Significant Difference (LSD) test showed that the addition of carriers affected increasing plant height and the number of branches compared to the negative control. Specifically, BTrK demonstrated the highest number of leaves and branches. The result concluded that adding carriers with probiotics from the intestine isolate of BSF larvae contributes to the improved growth of red chili. The implementation of carrier addition with probiotics is considered to be a sustainable strategy in agriculture.
