Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the MMC-Circuit Model, a Tarung Derajat training approach designed to improve athletes’ technical skills and discipline. The model is based on the philosophy of Muscle, Mind, and Conscience, integrating technical, physical, and mental components into a structured 12-station circuit training format. The research involved 20 athletes in a small-scale trial and 40 athletes in a large-scale trial over eight weeks. Quantitative results showed significant improvements in athletes’ technical performance, with punching and kicking skills increasing by 19–21%, and a reduction in rule violations by 55%. The model’s overall feasibility was rated 91% (very feasible) by experts. The t-test analysis indicated a significant difference between pretest and posttest results (p < 0.05), while correlation tests showed a strong negative relationship (r = –0.721) between rule compliance and the number of violations. Qualitative feedback revealed enhanced confidence, focus, motivation, and understanding of competition ethics among athletes. These findings demonstrate that the MMC-Circuit Model effectively enhances technical skills, physical readiness, and discipline, while promoting the core values of Tarung Derajat. The model provides a practical, holistic, and sustainable framework for developing athletes in free-fight competitions.

Abstract

Anxiety is a psychological component that significantly affects athletes' focus, confidence, and performance, particularly during the rigorous training phase leading up to a competition. The purpose of this study is to examine the anxiety levels of Tarung Derajat athletes in Pati Regency while they are training at the Training Center (TC) in advance of Provincial Sports Week (Porprov). This study combined a survey method with a quantitative descriptive design. Because of the relatively small population size, a total sampling technique was used to select 22 athletes for the study. The Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2), a tool that assesses self-confidence, somatic anxiety, and cognitive anxiety, was used to collect data. Norm intervals were used to classify anxiety levels in a descriptive data analysis. The findings indicated that while no athletes fell into the very high category, the majority of athletes (50.00%) fell into the moderate anxiety category, followed by the high (27.27%), low (13.63%), and very low (9.10%) categories. These results show that while psychological stress during the TC period persisted, most athletes were able to control their anxiety to a manageable level. Age, athlete classification, competition experience, and training category (arts or combat) can all have an impact on anxiety levels. This study emphasizes the importance of systematically implementing mental training and anxiety management strategies within training programs to improve psychological readiness and optimize athlete performance during competition.

Abstract

Physical Education learning at the senior high school level faces challenges related to student ability heterogeneity and varying motivation levels, which often result in learning disparities. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL)-based learning methods and students' motivation levels on PJOK learning outcomes. A 2×2 factorial experimental design was employed with 140 tenth-grade students from SMA Negeri 1 Sale Rembang divided into four treatment groups. The research implemented two TaRL approaches: TaRL A utilizing peer tutoring strategy and TaRL B utilizing parallel learning strategy. Students were categorized into high motivation (n=72) and low motivation (n=68) groups based on motivation questionnaire scores. Two-way ANOVA analysis revealed a significant main effect of TaRL method on learning outcomes (F=5.098, p=0.026, η²=0.036), with TaRL A demonstrating superior performance (M=78.18) compared to TaRL B (M=74.86). More significantly, students' motivation level demonstrated a very large main effect (F=30.021, p=0.000, η²=0.181), with high-motivation students achieving substantially higher scores (M=80.91) than low-motivation students (M=71.97). No significant interaction was found between method and motivation (F=0.246, p=0.621). These findings indicate that both factors independently contribute to PJOK learning outcomes, with motivation being approximately five times more influential than teaching method. Schools should prioritize implementing peer tutoring-based differentiation while simultaneously enhancing student motivation through autonomy, competence, and relatedness support
