Abstract

Film as a form of mass communication has a very important role in conveying messages to a wide audience. As a visual medium, film is able to combine audio and visual elements and through narrative, characters and visualization, film can create social or cultural representations and can influence people's opinions or behavior. In this research, the film being studied is entitled "Susah Signal", this film is researched with the aim that the audience can better understand and see how communication styles can damage and also improve the relationship between mother and child in the family. This research uses mass communication theory, interpersonal communication, family communication and semiotic theory. The methodology used in this film is a qualitative approach using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic case study method in processing the collection of existing data. In Semiotic Theory according to Ferdinand de Saussure, he has the main concepts developed, namely Signifier and Signified. Researchers processed data from several scenes in the film "Susah Signal" and then carried out the data validity process by interviewing a psychologist lecturer named Debora Basaria, Msi.Psi, Psychologist. The results of this research show that the film Susah Signal represents the communication style of a single mother, from initially having a communication style that tends to be one-way, such as her authoritarian parenting style, which is also quite harsh in reprimanding, so it often becomes the cause of conflict, to the stage of representing a change in communication style. Good behavior can be the key to resolving the conflict in this film. Film sebagai bentuk komunikasi massa memiliki peran yang sangat penting dalam menyampaikan pesan kepada khalayak luas. Sebagai salah satu media visual, film mampu menggabungkan unsur-unsur audio dan visual dan melalalui narasi, karakter, serta visualisasi, film dapat menciptakan representasi sosial atau budaya serta dapat mempengaruhi opini atau perilaku masyarakat. Dalam penelitian ini Film yang diteliti berjudul “Susah Sinyal”, film ini diteliti dengan tujuan agar khalayak dapat lebih memahami dan dapat melihat bagaimana gaya komunikasi dapat merusak serta juga memperbaiki suatu hubungan ibu dan anak dalam keluarga. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori komunikasi massa, komunikasi antarpribadi, komunikasi keluarga dan teori semiotika. Metodologi yang dipakai dalam film ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure dalam mengolah pengumpulan data-data yang ada. Dalam Teori Semiotika menurut Ferdinand de Saussure, ia memiliki konsep utama yang dikembangkan, yaitu Penanda (Signifier) dan Petanda (Signified). Peneliti mengolah data-data dari beberapa adegan di film “Susah Sinyal” ini kemudian dilakukan proses keabsahan data dengan mewawancarai seorang dosen psikolog bernama Debora Basaria, Msi.Psi, Psikolog. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Film Susah Sinyal merepresentasikan gaya komunikasi dari seorang ibu tunggal dari yang awalnya memiliki gaya komunikasi yang cenderung satu arah seperti gaya pola asuhnya yang otoriter juga cukup keras dalam menegur sehingga sering menjadi penyebab konflik, hingga pada tahap merepresentasikan perubahan gaya komunikasi yang baik dapat menjadi kunci penyelesaian konflik dalam film ini.

Abstract

The development of technology and information presents various types of media as information channels to the public, one of which is through films. Film as an audio-visual medium involves the concept of signs and symbols to convey meaning, messages, and significance to the audience. The researcher is interested in studying a film entitled “Inside Out 2” which aims to determine the representation form of teenage anxiety. This research was conducted because of the increasing rate of anxiety in teenagers, especially in Indonesia, with minimal learning to control emotions. The theories and concepts used in this research include the theory of mass communication, film, semiotics, representation, mental health, and anxiety. The approach employed is a descriptive, qualitative method with semiotic techniques. The subject of this research is the film Inside Out 2, and the object is the representation of teenage anxiety in the movie. Researchers collected data through documentation, which will be analyzed using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotics, as well as through interviews with experts. Researchers found signs regarding the representation of teenage anxiety in 12 scenes. Several representation forms include excessive anxiety, negative thought patterns, low self-esteem and insecurity, extreme actions, bad self-identity, aggressive behavior and selfish attitudes, poor emotional expression and regulation, as well as a closed attitude and harboring emotions. Perkembangan teknologi dan informasi menghadirkan berbagai macam media sebagai saluran informasi kepada khalayak, salah satunya melalui film. Film sebagai sebuah media audio visual melibatkan konsep tanda dan simbol untuk penyampaian arti, pesan, dan makna kepada penontonnya. Peneliti tertarik untuk mengkaji sebuah film berjudul “Inside Out 2” yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk representasi kecemasan remaja. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena meningkatnya angka kecemasan remaja, khususnya di Indonesia, namun minimnya pembelajaran pengendalian emosi kepada remaja. Teori dan konsep yang digunakan penelitian ini adalah teori komunikasi massa, film, semiotika, representasi, kesehatan mental, dan kecemasan. Pendekatan yang diaplikasikan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode semiotika. Subjek penelitian ini adalah film Inside Out 2 dan objeknya adalah representasi kecemasan remaja dalam film. Peneliti melakukan pengumpulan data melalui dokumentasi yang akan dianalisis menggunakan semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure serta wawancara dengan pihak ahli. Peneliti menemukan adanya tanda – tanda mengenai representasi kecemasan remaja dalam 12 adegan yang memberikan penggambaran kecemasan remaja. Beberapa bentuk representasi meliputi kecemasan berlebihan, pola pikir negatif, harga diri rendah dan kurang percaya diri, tindakan ekstrem, jati diri buruk, perilaku agresif dan sikap egois, ekspresi dan regulasi emosi yang buruk, serta sikap tertutup dan memendam emosi.

Abstract

This research explores the interpretation of the journalist profession in the Korean drama Pinocchio among college students, utilizing a qualitative approach, in-depth interview method, and study of literature. Employing mass communication theory, film as a product of mass communication, reception theory, and understanding of the journalism profession, the analysis involves open coding, axial coding, and selective coding techniques. Findings reveal three main positions among students in interpreting the journalism profession, with diverse perspectives on responsibilities, ethics, and challenges in the journalistic world. The study contributes to understanding the impact of mass media dramatization on students' perceptions of the journalism profession, with implications for the development of media representations and contemporary understanding. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi representasi profesi jurnalis dalam drama Korea Pinocchio di kalangan mahasiswa dengan pendekatan kualitatif, metode wawancara mendalam, dan studi literatur. Menggunakan teori komunikasi massa, film sebagai produk komunikasi massa, teori resepsi, dan pemahaman profesi jurnalis, analisis melibatkan teknik open coding, axial coding, dan selective coding. Temuan menunjukkan tiga posisi utama mahasiswa dalam memaknai profesi jurnalis, dengan perspektif yang beragam mengenai tanggung jawab, etika, dan tantangan di dunia jurnalistik. Hasil penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pemahaman dampak dramatization media massa terhadap persepsi mahasiswa terhadap profesi jurnalis, dengan implikasi untuk pengembangan representasi media dan pemahaman kontemporer.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate how group communication occurs in a healthy living program to build supportiveness. The researcher conducted a study on Eating Reorder, specifically In the WhatsApp group Batch 6 – Coach Chili. The research methodology employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques included participatory observation and interviews. The theoretical framework used by the author consists of group commucination theory and supportiveness. The results of this research led the author to conclude that the dynamics of group communication appear less active, but it does not diminish the supportiveness within the group. The existence of the group significantly aids members in participating in the Eating Reorder program. There are rules that members need tp adhere to, and the function of group communication within this group is to solve problems. Additionally, the are three forms of supportive education within the group: Teaching, Guiding, and Supporting. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana komunikasi kelompok yang terjadi pada sebuah program hidup sehat dalam membangun supportivitas. Penulis mengambil studi pada Eating Reorder khususnya pada grup WhatsApp Batch 6 – Coach Chili. Metodologi penelitian yang digunakan adalah pada pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data observasi partisipatif dan wawancara. Teori yang penulis gunakan adalah teori komunikasi kelompok dan supportivitas. Hasil dari penelitian ini, penulis dapat menarik kesimpulan dinamika komunikasi kelompok yang terjadi terlihat kurang aktif akan tetapi tidak mengurangi supportivitas di dalam grup. Adanya grup tersebut sangat membantu member-member dalam menjadi program Eating Reorder tersebut. Terdapat aturan-aturan yang perlu ditaati oleh member, fungsi dari komunikasi kelompok di dalam grup ini adalah sebagai pemecah masalah, dan terdapat 3 bentuk supportive educative di dalam grup tersebut yakni, Pengajaran (Teaching), Bimbingan (Guiding), dan Dukungan (Supporting).

Abstract

Social media plays a central role in travel planning, particularly among Indonesian millennial tourists who seek information, inspiration, and real-time guidance. This study examines how social media shapes the behavior of Indonesian tourists visiting Japan, employing the framework of digital tourism communication and the theory of electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM). A mixed-methods design was applied, combining a survey of 494 respondents with in-depth interviews to explore travel habits, digital engagement, and decision-making processes. Findings reveal that Instagram and TikTok serve as primary triggers of travel inspiration, while YouTube, blogs, and Google Reviews are primarily used for information verification and detailed itinerary planning. User-generated content (UGC) is perceived as more credible than commercial content, underscoring the importance of authenticity and trust. However, the viral nature of social media also contributes to overtourism, highlighting the need for sustainable destination management strategies. Theoretically, this study advances the literature by linking UGC, flow experience, and travel decision-making in the context of a developing country. Practically, it provides recommendations for destination managers, policymakers, and service providers to leverage social media strategically while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism practices.

Abstract

Based on survey results from the Association of Indonesian Internet Service Providers (APJII), internet users in Indonesia reached 215.63 million people in the period 2022 - 2023. In the current digital era, internet use is very important, where everything is done digitally, one of which is frequently used. namely social media where the public can obtain, process, get to know someone, disseminate information easily. Now there is social media which is very hype or a trend among young people which makes the private space of one's life often become public consumption which is often used by young people to share activities carried out for shape their identity. This is also used by beauty and fashion influencers to build personal branding. Therefore, this research aims to find out strategies for building personal branding from beauty and fashion nano-influencers through TikTok social media. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative through interviews and documentation. This research found that building a person's personal branding requires high skills or expertise in introducing oneself to the public. This is because personal branding is an important thing for someone to do to be able to compete with other people to achieve a life goal. The strategy for determining when to post videos is also one of the supporting factors for success in building personal branding. Berdasarkan hasil survei Assosiasi Penyelenggara Jasa Internet Indonesia (APJII) menyatakan pengguna internet di Indonesia mencapai 215,63 juta orang pada periode 2022 – 2023. Pada era digital saat ini, penggunaan internet sangat penting yang mana segala sesuatu dilakukan melalui digital salah satunya yang sering digunakan yaitu media sosial yang mana publik dapat memperoleh, mengolah, mengenal seseorang, menyebarkan informasi dengan mudah. Pada saat ini terdapat media sosial yang sangat hype atau trend dikalangan anak muda yang membuat ruang privasi hidup seseorang seringkali menjadi konsumsi publik yang mana hal ini seringkali dimanfaatkan oleh anak muda untuk membagikan kegiatan yang dilakukan untuk membentuk jati diri mereka. Hal ini pula dimanfaatkan oleh seorang beauty dan fashion influencer untuk membangun personal branding. Maka dari itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui untuk mengetahui strategi membangun personal branding dari beauty dan fashion nano-influencers melalui media sosial Tiktok. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan melalui wawancara dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa dalam membangun personal branding seseorang diperlukan keterampilan atau keahlian yang tinggi dalam mengenalkan dirinya kepada publik. Hal ini dikarenakan personal branding menjadi suatu hal yang penting untuk dilakukan oleh seseorang untuk mampu bersaing dengan orang lain untuk mencapai sebuah tujuan hidup. Strategi dalam menentukan waktu posting video juga menjadi salah satu faktor pendukung keberhasilan dalam membangun personal branding.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted tourism in Indonesia, causing a sharp decline in both foreign and domestic visitors and leading to decreased income for tourism businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and tour guides. Although the vaccination program and government stimulus policies, including tax reductions, have supported gradual recovery, the sector still faces serious challenges such as low tourist arrivals, difficulty in maintaining health protocols, limited capital, dependency on foreign tourists, and inadequate infrastructure. In this context, communication science and industrial psychology play a crucial role in shaping effective communication strategies, human resource management, service innovation, performance measurement, and reputation management to strengthen resilience in post-pandemic tourism. This study contributes to theory development by integrating concepts of Customer Relationship Management (CRM), service innovation behavior, and creative economy theory into the framework of tourism recovery. By doing so, it enriches theoretical discussions on how communication and resource management can drive competitiveness and sustainable value creation in the tourism sector. Practically, the findings highlight that effective CRM implementation through meaningful communication, personalization techniques, and lifecycle management that enhances trust, customer satisfaction, loyalty, and positive word-of-mouth. These insights provide actionable strategies for tourism practitioners to rebuild relationships with customers, maintain long-term engagement, and adapt to post-crisis market dynamics. This qualitative descriptive research involved purposive sampling of tour guides and tourism entrepreneurs in Bali—one of the destinations most affected by the pandemic. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document studies, then analyzed using thematic analysis. To ensure validity and reliability, the study employed triangulation of data sources and member checking. The results demonstrate that CRM is not only an operational tool but also a strategic approach that links theory with practice, offering both academic contributions and practical pathways for strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian tourism in the post-pandemic era.

Abstract

The research examines the moral messages contained in the film Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. The issue in this research how is the moral message contained in the film. In conducting this research the author uses qualitative research methods by using data collection techniques in the form of interviews and documentation. In conducting the research the author also applies mass communication theory which focuses on films as mass communication products and the theory of moral concepts in Japanese culture to find out what kind of moral values ​​are formed in Japan. The results of the research using Ronald Barthes' semiotic analysis get a denotative meaning, namely the struggle of Tanjirou and his friends and Rengoku in eradicating demons. The connotative meaning in this research is the tenacity and courage and unyielding attitude of the character of Tanjirou and his friends. From the analysis based on the moral concept of Japanese culture, moral messages are included in the categories of self-development, relationships with other people, and relationships with the community or society. In the concept of Bushido's moral teachings, there are moral messages that reflect the teachings of Confucianism. Penelitian ini membahas tentang pesan-pesan moral yang terkandung dalam film Demon Slayer: Mugen Train. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana pesan moral yang terkandung dalam film tersebut. Dalam melakukan penelitian, penulis menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara dan studi dokumentasi. Penulis juga menerapkan teori komunikasi massa yang berfokus pada film sebagai produk komunikasi massa. Teori konsep moral dalam budaya Jepang untuk mencari tahu seperti apa nilai moral yang terbentuk dalam negara Jepang. Hasil dari penelitian dengan menggunakan analisis semiotik Ronald Barthes mendapatkan makna denotatif yaitu perjuangan Tanjirou dan kawan-kawan serta Rengoku dalam membasmi iblis. Makna konotatif yakni kegigihan serta sikap pemberani dan pantang menyerah dari karakter Tanjirou dan kawan-kawan. Dari analisis berdasarkan konsep moral budaya Jepang mendapatkan pesan-pesan moral yang termasuk dalam kategori pengembangan diri, hubungan dengan orang lain, dan hubungan dengan komunitas atau masyarakat. Dalam konsep ajaran moral Bushido didapatkan pesan moral yang mencerminkan ajaran Konfusianisme.

Abstract

The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia at the beginning of 2020 had many negative impacts in various sectors, one of which was to event organizers. On the other hand, with the advancement of modern technology in the digital field, new media have emerged that can support the planned and planned events using new media, namely live streaming. The theory used in this research is communication theory, computer mediated communication (CMC), determinism of communication technology. This research focuses on the experience gained for clients and event organizers with the existence of new media in the field of live streaming events. This study uses a qualitative research case study approach with data collection methods through interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that live streaming events are a new medium in the event sector that provides experience, especially for event service users who can still hold events with new innovations, namely live streaming events that can help run the events that are being held. New media in the form of live streaming is enough to help individual activities or the business sector that offers services, in this case in the form of online events. The author also hopes that live streaming events as a new media can help the community in meeting their needs, especially in the event sector. Munculnya pandemi covid – 19 di Indonesia pada awal tahun 2020 memberikan dampak buruk di berbagai sektor, salah satunya penyelenggara event. Di sisi lain dengan kemajuan teknologi digital maka muncul media baru yang dapat menunjang jalannya acara dengan menggunakan media baru yaitu  live streaming. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori komunikasi, computer mediated communication (CMC), determinisme teknologi komunikasi. Penelitian ini berfokus pada pengalaman yang didapatkan bagi klien maupun penyelenggara acara dengan adanya media baru dalam bidang event live streaming. Penelitian ini menggunakan penilitian kualitatif pendekatan studi kasus dengan metode pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa event live streaming merupakan media baru yang memberikan pengalaman, khususnya kepada pengguna jasa event yang tetap bisa menyelenggarakan acara dengan inovasi baru yaitu dengan event live streaming yang bisa membantu jalannya kegiatan acara yang dilangsungkan. Media baru berupa live streaming cukup membantu kegiatan individu ataupun sektor usaha yang menawarkan jasa, dalam hal ini berupa event online. Penulis juga berharap event live streaming sebagai media baru dapat membantu masyarakat dalam memenuhi kebutuhannya khususnya dalam bidang acara.

Abstract

Gender inequality has existed since a long time ago. Women are often seen as muted group and known as a weak figure. Various stigmas about women also appear in everyday life. For example stigma about menstruation. There are many views in society that consider menstruation as something taboo and must be covered up. That viewpoint of menstruation also happening in Indonesia. This is due to the limitations of education and communication. Various feminism campaign movements were also present as an effort so that women have the same equality as men did. In this research, author uses a qualitative approach with case study method to find out the campaign movement by @Nonawoman in their Instagram account to break the stigma about menstruation in society. Subject that chosen as key informan was the co-founders of Nonawoman. The purpose of this research to know about background, implementation and feedback of the campaign that carried out by Nonawoman. Based on research, author find out that this campaign received positively in society, especially by women. Ketidaksetaraan gender sudah terjadi sejak zaman dahulu. Perempuan tidak jarang dianggap sebagai kelompok bungkam dan dipandang sebagai sosok yang lemah. Berbagai stigma tentang perempuan pun bermunculan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Salah satu contohnya yakni stigma menstruasi. Banyak pandangan dalam masyarakat yang menganggap menstruasi sebagai sesuatu yang tabu dan harus ditutupi. Pandangan terkait menstruasi tersebut pun terjadi di Indonesia. Hal ini disebabkan karena keterbatasan edukasi dan komunikasi. Berbagai gerakan kampanye feminisme pun hadir sebagai upaya agar perempuan memiliki hak yang sama dengan laki-laki. Pada penelitian ini penulis menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus untuk mengetahui gerakan kampanye yang dilakukan oleh akun Instagram @Nonawoman dalam mematahkan stigma seputar menstruasi di kalangan masyarakat. Subjek yang dipilih sebagai key informan dalam penelitian ini adalah co-founder of Nonawoman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui latar belakang, pelaksanaan dan umpan balik dari kampanye yang dilakukan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, kampanye ini mendapat umpan balik yang positif dari masyarakat khususnya perempuan.
