Abstract

Education serves as a vital factor in society, forming the foundation for shaping children's character and personality. A social project was implemented to provide knowledge to elementary school children at SD Palalangan 2, Cermee District, Bondowoso Regency, involving all students from grades 1 to 6. The program included: pre-test, introduction to plant parts, instruction on planting kale using soil media, knowledge on reusing containers, kale plant maintenance, educational games about plant parts, and post-test. The social project entitled "Creative Planting, Fun Recycling" was successfully implemented. Pre-test results showed that only a small number of students understood how to plant, care for plants, and recognize plant parts and their functions. Post-test results demonstrated that most students gained understanding of planting techniques, plant care, and plant anatomy with their functions. The program successfully enhanced students' understanding of cultivation techniques, plant maintenance, and plant anatomy at SD Palalangan 2

Abstract

The use of digital devices has increased rapidly in the digital era, particularly among elementary school-age children. Excessive use of digital devices can influence changes in children's behavior, attitudes, and emotional conditions. The social project aims to provide education about the negative and positive impacts of digital device usage and introduce traditional games as an enjoyable alternative activity for students. The program was conducted at SDN Grujukan 1 Bondowoso, involving 46 students from grades I–VI through counseling methods and direct practice of traditional games, such as Gobak Sodor, which received enthusiastic responses during implementation. Pre-test results showed that only 45% of students understood the impacts of digital device usage correctly. After material delivery and direct practice, there was a significant increase in post-test results, with 85% of students demonstrating understanding of digital device usage impacts and familiarity with the introduced traditional games. The program is expected to help students balance digital device usage with healthier activities and rekindle their appreciation for local culture through traditional games.

Abstract

Milo pace robusta coffee is a local coffee variety in Jember Regency that is threatened with extinction. One way to overcome this problem is by propagating it through tissue culture. The success of tissue culture is determined by the use of optimal culture media doses. Research related to the development of Milo pace coffee is still very limited. This study aims to obtain the best dose in woody plant medium media for the development of robusta coffee leaf explants of the Milo pace variety. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a single factor, namely the WPM media dose (1 time, ¾ times, ½ times and MS 1 time as a control) which was repeated 3 times with 3 samples. Data were analyzed descriptively and statistically using analysis of variance, and continued with the DMRT test at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the use of WPM media with 1 dose was the best dose with a percentage of imbibed explants of 77.77% with an average emergence at 2.53 ± 0.68 DAI and green live explants. Furthermore, the percentage of browning explants was still high at 88.89±19.24%, which appeared at 9.96±1.73 DAI. Various doses of WPM media were unable to induce callus in Milo Pace robusta coffee leaf explants.

Abstract

This community service activity was designed to increase elementary school students' understanding and creativity regarding plastic waste management through handicraft making. This activity was carried out at SDN Batu Ampar 1 Cermee, Bondowoso Regency, involving 49 students from grades IV to VI. The implementation method consisted of four sessions, namely the delivery of information about plastic waste, understanding organic and inorganic waste, practicing making collages from plastic waste, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The evaluation results showed an increase in the average score of student understanding from 56.3 to 82.1, which means an increase of 25.8 points after the activity was carried out. In addition, the students successfully created several collage works from plastic waste that reflected their growing creativity and concern for the environment. This activity proved to be successful in increasing environmental awareness and recycling skills from an early age and has the potential to be implemented in other elementary schools.

Abstract

Computer vision offers a promising method for soil moisture assessment especially for real-time field monitoring where sensor-based measurements are limited. This study evaluates the performance of a traditional Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and ResNet-50 architecture for classifying soil moisture levels directly from in-situ surface images. The research involved 200 field-captured images and corresponding moisture data from a rainfed agricultural area. The models were trained with datasets grouped into two, three, and four moisture categories to test performance under varying complexity. The results showed poor model performance, characterized by high instability and severe overfitting across all experiments. Model accuracy for the traditional CNN significantly decreased from 0.513 to 0.256 as the number of classification categories increased and from 0.487 to 0.205 for ResNet-50. High RMSE values from 0.433 to 0.507 further confirmed substantial prediction errors. This finding highlights the limitation of RGB-based in-situ imagery for soil moisture classification, where environmental variability dominates the visual signal. It also suggests that soil moisture-related features are not sufficiently distinguishable under uncontrolled field conditions. The study concludes that the high variability of direct field images due to factors like inconsistent lighting, illumination, and the presence of non-soil objects is a primary obstacle to accurate classification. Future studies should implement advanced pre-processing techniques such as segmentation to reduce illumination noise.
