Abstract

The effects of mycorrhizal endosymbiotic bacteria Bacillus subtilis B10 and composite of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal spores in green house experiment were examined in order to evaluate their effectiveness and compatibility with oil palm seedlings in the presence of a fungal pathogen Ganoderma boninense, the most serious pathogen in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) in Indonesia. A three factors experiment were conducted, with mycorrhizal inoculation (M0 and M1), bacterial B. subtilis B10 inoculation (B0 and B1), and G. boninense inoculation (G0 and G1) as the first, second, and third factors, respectively. The results showed that disease severity index, plant height, root dry-weight, and phosphorus uptake were affected by co-inoculation of mycorrhizal endosymbiotic bacteria B. subtilis B10 and composite of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Co-inoculation of mycorrhizal endosymbiotic bacteria B. subtilis B10 and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi did not only reduce the percentage of basal stem rot incidence, but also significantly increased plant height and phosphorus uptake by oil palm seedlings. Our results suggest that in oil palm seedlings mycorrhizal endosymbiotic bacteria B. subtilis B10 worked synergistically with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in increasing plant adaptation toward biotic stress of pathogen G. boninese and could be promising biocontrol agents.

Abstract

Four isolates (BGi1, BGi2, BGi3, and BGi4) bacteria were isolated from surface sterilized arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) spores of Gigaspora margarita (Gm). Based on 16S rDNA analyses and phylogenetic tree, it was revealed that isolates BGi1, BGi3 and BGi4 belong to genus Bacillus, whereas BGi2 was very close  to Bacillus megaterium EG 24. Enzymatic activity test showed that all four isolates had cellulase and protease activities; while one isolate (Bacillus sp. BGi4) also has pectinase activity in addition to the celulase  and protease activities. Dual inoculation of Melia azedarch Linn roots by B. megaterium BGi2  and AMF spores G. margarita enhanced mycorrhizal root colonization by 58.3 %. Combination of Bacillus sp. BGi1 and G. margarita increased  height, diameter, shoot biomass, and root biomass of  M. azedarch by  353, 4.8, 4546, and 2810%, respectively,  in comparison to the uninoculated control plant.

Abstract

Abstrak. Wadah semai ramah lingkungan merupakan produk yang dibuat dari bahan organik. Bahan organik yang digunakan dapat berupa limbah, sehingga dapat membantu mengatasi permasalahan lingkungan dalam menangani limbah. Di sisi lain penggunaan wadah semai ramah lingkungan mempunyai keuntungan yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan polybag berbahan plastik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya serap air dan kualitas Wadah Semai Ramah Lingkungan (WSRL) berbahan limbah kertas koran dan bahan organik lainnya. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 2 faktor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa daya serap air berkisar 171. 04 %-223.69%, dengan nilai tertinggi terdapat pada perlakuan Ab (Koran 100% + 8% perekat) dan terendah terdapat pada perlakuan Ac (Koran 100% + 12% perekat). Penggunaan koran 100% menunjukkan WSRL yang lebih kuat dibandingkan dengan perlakuan lainnya. Water Absorption and Quality of Eco-Friendly Container Waste from Newsprint and Organic Materials Abstract. Organic seedling containers was produced from organic materials. Organic materials used can be waste, so it can help overcome environmental problems in handling waste. On the other hand, the use of organic seeding containers makes the containers more friendly and has greater advantages compared to polybags made from plastic. This study aimed to determine the water absorption and durability of Environmentally Friendly Semi-containers (EFSC) in greenhouses and fields. The design used in this research was complete randomized design with 2 factors. The results showed that water absorption was 171.04% -223.69%, with the highest value found in Ab (100% pulp + 8% glue) treatment and the lowest was in Ac treatment (100% pulp + 12% glue). Using 100% newspapers showed a stronger WSRL compared to other treatments.

Abstract

Coal mining activities in Indonesia have a negative impact on the environment. Some vegetations are disturbed even be lost especially in mining with open mine operation. Revegetation is one of activities that can improve the quality of post mining land, which are also included in post mining land reclamation activities. The purpose of this study is to analyze the biodiversity of flora in post-coal mining revegetation area and to compare the condition of vegetation in various revegetation age classes with the condition of vegetation in natural forest. Vegetation data were collected using the plotted line method in natural forest and plot method with the systematic sampling method with random start (revegetation area). The analysis found that overall conditions of revegetation area have more diverse number of species, namely 52 species woody plant species, and 23 herbaceous plant species, compared to the natural forest, which only has 46 woody plant species and 2 herbaceous plant species. Generally, diversity index and species increment in vegetation area at age more than 4 years is higher and approaching the state of natural forest than revegetation area age 0 - 2 years.

Abstract

Abu terbang digunakan sebagai bahan campuran alternatif dalam pengomposan ampas daun sereh wangi sebagai pengganti dolomit. Campuran ampas daun sereh wangi dengan 2%, 5%, 10%, dan 15% abu terbang, ditambah 2% dolomit maupun tanpa penambahan bahan alkali dikomposkan terlebih dahulu. Kompos ditambahkan ke dalam tanah dengan perbandingan 1:1 b/b untuk mengetahui pengaruhnya terhadap pertumbuhan Cananga odorata. Parameter pertumbuhan yang diamati yaitu pertambahan tinggi dan diameter tanaman, jumlah akar sekunder, panjang akar, berat kering pucuk dan akar, biomassa total, serapan hara, serta nisbah pucuk akar yang dianalisis 6 minggu setelah tanam. Analisis kandungan C-organik, N, P, K, Cu, Mn, Cd, Pb, dan As dilakukan pada media dan jaringan tanaman yang mendapat perlakuan tanah dengan penambahan kompos dari campuran ampas daun sereh wangi dengan 15% abu terbang (P6) dan dibandingkan dengan kandungan nutrisi yang sama pada media tanah tanpa kompos (K) maupun media dengan kompos dari campuran ampas daun sereh wangi dengan 2% dolomit (P2). Perlakuan P6 menghasilkan N, P dan K total yang cenderung tinggi, meningkatkan akumulasi dan serapan N hingga 20%, serta pH media tanam yang stabil pada kondisi netral. Perlakuan P6 juga menghasilkan konsentrasi Pb, Mn, Cu, As dan Cd dalam media tanam, serta akumulasinya dalam jaringan C. odorata yang rendah. Perlakuan P6 ke dalam tanah dapat menurunkan akumulasi Mn dan Cu dalam jaringan C. odorata. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, kompos dengan campuran abu terbang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan alternatif pengganti kompos dengan campuran dolomit.

Abstract

Root isolation activities to obtain dark septate endophytic fungi are currently mostly carried out on agricultural and plantation crops, while less so on forestry crops. Roots are a suitable habitat for the growth of various microorganisms, including dark septate endophytic fungi. The research aims to isolate the roots of Pinus merkusii plants from four locations, test pathogenicity, and test the biomass of sweet caisim mustard seeds. The research used a descriptive method by observing the number of dark septate endophytic fungal isolates obtained and the pathogenicity of these isolates. Meanwhile, sweet ciasim mustard seed biomass from the pathogenicity test results of non-pathogenic isolates was analyzed using a completely randomized design. The results of root isolation from Pinus merkusii stands obtained as many as 25 isolates by isolating 1,160 root segments. Isolation of Pinus merkusii roots from the IPB Dramaga Campus obtained 16 isolates, Dabun Gelang Village, Gayo Lues Regency obtained 2 isolates, Gunung Walat University Forest obtained 2 isolates, and Gunung Halimun Salak National Park obtained 5 isolates. Pathogenicity tests showed that 12 isolates were pathogenic and 13 isolates were non-pathogenic. Biomass analysis of sweet ciasim mustard seeds on non-pathogenic isolates obtained the highest biomass in the control treatment (not inoculated) and the lowest in isolates Apg 23.5 and Hs 14.6b. There is still a lack of isolates obtained from isolation activities in this research, so it is necessary to find an appropriate sterilization method to obtain the maximum number of isolates and have the potential to become non-pathogenic isolates. Abstract

Mikorhizosfer merupakan zona tanah di sekitar perakaran tumbuhan yang bermikoriza dan umumnya terdapat banyak mikroorganisme. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk menganalisis populasi mikoriza dan bakteri pada daerah mikorhizosfer semai mahoni (Swietenia macrophylla King.) yang tumbuh di media pascatambang pasir silika menggunakan wadah media pot organik. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri atas dua perlakuan, yaitu komposisi dan ukuran bahan pot organik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan komposisi pot organik mampu mempengaruhi keberadaan spora FMA. Komposisi pot organik 50% koran, 35% kompos, dan 15% cocopeat menunjukkan hasil terbaik untuk perkembangan spora FMA dan koloni bakteri, perkembangan spora FMA dan populasi koloni bakteri dalam media tanam lebih baik dibandingkan dengan perkembangan spora FMA dan koloni bakteri dalam pot organik. Terdapat tujuh karakter morfologi koloni bakteri berbeda yang didominasi oleh bundar, berbenang, rata, dan berwarna putih. Abstract

The plant species commonly used in Industrial Plantation Forests as raw material for pulp and paper is Eucalyptus pellita. One of the quality seeds of E. pellita is produced from superior clones by vegetative propagation, namely shoot cuttings. There are research results that show the propagation of certain clones has the highest Survival Rate when treated without using additional hormones. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on the propagation of E. pellita seed cuttings without using hormones. The results of the physiological analysis of E. pellita shoot cuttings showed that each parameter observed, namely IAA hormone content, C-organic, and N value, showed non-linear results with shoot age treatment. The results of measuring shoot length, number of nodes, and distance between nodes showed linear values with shoot age treatment. The results of observations of total Survival Rate, total roots and shoots showed that the 18 day shoot age treatment had the lowest value compared to other treatments. At the age of 2 weeks, it showed that the 21 day shoot age treatment had the fastest root growth ability compared to other treatments. Based on the results of height and diameter measurements at 12 weeks, it shows that 21 day old shoots have the best growth and Survival Rate so that they can be used as a basis for determining the age of shoots in the production of clone 148 seedlings on an operational scale. Abstract

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and biodegradable pots are environmentally friendly and enhance plant growth in adverse soil conditions. These studies explored AMF interactions and biodegradable pots in physiology, growth, and the uptake of nutrients in Samanea saman seedlings. The present research interactive effects of biodegradable pots with different compositions and raw material sizes with and without AMF inoculation on S. saman grown in silica post-mining soil media. Results indicated AMF inoculations significantly improved leaf chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate, heights, diameters, biomass, as well as nutrient absorption of S. saman as compared with non-inoculated plants in biodegradable pots. AMF and biodegradable pots composed of 15% used newspaper, 70% compost, 5% cocopeat, and 10% rock phosphate showed the best results and increased the leaf chlorophyll content, photosynthesis rate, height, diameter, and total biomass of the plants by 161.1%, 208.7%, 263.6%, 118.1%, and 269.9%, respectively, compared to biodegradable pots composed only of used newspaper. Additionally, uptake of the nutrients nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, and magnesium increased by 365%, 800%, 369%, and 250%, respectively. By the fourteenth week after transplanting, the C/N ratio of the organic pot decreased significantly. Thus, AMF and biodegradable pots containing compost and rock phosphate interact positively and enhance the growth of S. saman under adverse soil conditions. These findings suggest that biodegradable pots containing compost and rock phosphate show potential as more environmentally friendly replacements for plastic bags (polybags) as growth medium containers for seedling production.

Abstract

Tingginya kebutuhan masyarakat terhadap sumber daya hutan, jumlah penduduk yang terus bertambah dan tantangan krisis pangan akibat dampak perubahan iklim, memerlukan upaya peningkatan produktivitas lahan dan jumlah pasokan pangan, termasuk melalui praktik agroforestri. Hasil Survei Status Gizi Indonesia tahun 2022 mencatat angka stunting di Indonesia masih tinggi sebesar 21,6%, melebihi ambang batas WHO. Umbi garut ‘pangan agroforestri’ memiliki beragam manfaat kesehatan, merupakan pangan fungsional potensial mengatasi masalah gizi, stunting pada anak. Pencegahan stunting menjadi penting dengan mengonsumsi gizi seimbang berkualitas dari pangan beraneka ragam diantara melalui diversifikasi pangan dalam agroforestri. Untuk itu diperlukan upaya menyeluruh dan terintegrasi oleh pemangku kebijakan dan masyarakat dari hulu ke hilir, mulai dari peningkatan produktivitas di tingkat tapak, diversifikasi olahan pangan, dukungan pemerintah bagi usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah (UMKM) dalam pengolahannya, hingga sosialisasi manfaat umbi garut yang saat ini masih belum banyak dikenal melalui berbagai program edukatif dan insentif.
