Abstract

This is pilot study designed to ascertain college students' understanding of domestic food waste management using an online questioner. The descriptive results section of the report is used to describe the central tendency of the data collected for each variable. Meanwhile, the people who took part in the research were all part of a webinar on waste management that was led by people from universities and environmental groups. The findings indicated that students' knowledge of domestic food waste management remained diverse. Some of them continue to view waste management as a time-consuming and demanding activity.  Community understanding about waste management, especially food, should be given early and started at home. As a result, environmentally friendly activities must be regularly promoted and implemented at the school, university, government, and community levels in order to improve people's quality of life.

Abstract

Non-cognitive skills, such as personality traits, play a vital role in various facets of human life due to their association with individual decision-making. However, personality traits can vary significantly among individuals globally, particularly between males and females. Hence, the primary objective of this study is to analyze the disparities in personality traits between men and women and to investigate how non-cognitive skills influence well-being. The study utilizes nationally representative data from Indonesia, encompassing 17,560 men and 18,825 women. Employing distinct mean t-tests and linear regression estimations, we observe that men tend to exhibit higher levels of openness, conscientiousness, and agreeableness in their personalities compared to women. Conversely, women demonstrate a propensity for higher level of extraversion and neuroticism. Moreover, our analysis reveals that male well-being is positively correlated with extraversion, while female well-being is linked to openness and extraversion traits. These findings underscore the significance of considering personality attributes in crafting economic development policies. Presently, policymakers in emerging nations like Indonesia heavily prioritize cognitive skills such as technical training and technological innovation. This study suggests that incorporating residents' non-cognitive talents into policy-making could potentially lead to enhanced achievements and progress.

Abstract

Agricultural development at this time apart from pursuing high production also began to pay attention to environmental conditions. The direction of agricultural development in Indonesia is towards sustainable development (Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's)). The target of sustainable agricultural development is changes in economic conditions, welfare, social society, and attention to natural conditions. Organic farming is introduced to farmers to support sustainable agricultural development goals. However in practice, there are still a few farmers who are interested in organic rice cultivation. So it is necessary to know the ratio of income earned by inorganic and organic rice farmers and it is necessary to know what factors are considered by farmers in choosing rice cultivation methods both inorganic and organic. The research method used in this study is the method of farming analysis, T test, and logistic regression. The results of the farming analysis show that the income of inorganic rice farmers is IDR 2,600,873 and that of organic rice farmers is IDR 8,263,688. Based on the results of the T-test, it was found that there was a significant difference in income between the income of inorganic rice farmers and the income of organic rice farmers. Logistic regression carried out resulted in significant factors considered by farmers, namely relative advantage, suitability with culture, complexity in organic farming cultivation, and age of farmers. Based on the test results, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in income between inorganic rice farmers and organic rice farmers. Factors considered by farmers in choosing inorganic and organic rice cultivation methods are relative advantages, suitability with culture, complexity in organic farming cultivation, and age of farmers

Abstract

The use of pesticides to eradicate plant pest organisms (OPT) faced by rice farmers in Kanor District is an effective solution to reduce the threat of crop failure which has the potential for losses. However, the use of pesticides without control and non-compliance with usage rules carries a risk of damaging rice fields. The behavior of rice farmers in using pesticides is confirmed to have low compliance, including the habit of mixing two or more different brands, as well as using higher doses. The behavior of pesticide purchasing decisions made by farmers in this research will be tested through a marketing mix consisting of product quality, price, place and promotions carried out by pesticide producers. This research is a quantitative research, taking research samples from rice farmers in Kanor District, which is a productive rice producing center in Bojonegoro Regency. Research data analysis uses descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis using the smartPLS application. The research results found several findings, including the behavior of farmers in using pesticides, 73.1 percent mixing various brands, 20.4 percent using higher doses. The most common reason farmers choose a brand of pesticide is based on function/benefits (25.8%), following other farmers who already use a similar brand (s5.8 percent, price of pesticide (17.2%). SEM test results show quality results product, place, and promotion do not have a direct influence on purchasing decisions, only price has a direct influence on pesticide purchasing decisions. In testing the relationship with brand image, product quality and promotion have a significant positive influence, while price and place have a significant negative influence. Further findings found that brand image succeeded in mediating price, place, promotion with pesticide purchasing decisions, but brand image failed to mediate product quality with purchasing decisions. Furthermore, brand image had a significant positive influence on pesticide purchasing decisions.

Abstract

Abstract

The low adoption of smart farming technology among farmers, despite the availability of tools in Kanigoro Village, Pagelaran Subdistrict, is the main issue addressed in this study. Technologies such as the Smart Soil Sensor and Bird Control Sound System have not been optimally utilized, even though they can improve agricultural efficiency and productivity. This study aims to analyze the influence of attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control on farmers’ intention to adopt smart farming technology, using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework. The research employed a quantitative approach involving 100 rice farmers, with data collected through structured questionnaires and direct interviews. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) with the help of WarpPLS 7.0 software. The results show that all three independent variables-attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control-have a positive and significant effect on farmers’ intention. Among these, perceived behavioral control has the most dominant influence, followed by subjective norm and attitude. These findings suggest that beyond building positive attitudes, it is essential to strengthen social support and increase farmers' confidence in their ability and access to technology to enhance the adoption of smart farming practices.

Abstract

The global population is projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, increasing food demand and straining the environment. Meat consumption, responsible for 31% of global greenhouse gas emissions, drives deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Despite its environmental and health risks, global meat consumption is expected to rise by 76% by 2050. In Indonesia, while tempeh and tofu are cultural staples, plant-based protein consumption has declined, contradicting climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. This study analyzes meat consumption behavior among 384 Universitas Brawijaya students (18-25 years) using the COM-B model, focusing on capability, opportunity, and motivation. Significant gender differences emerged in capability (e.g., cooking skills and environmental awareness), opportunity (e.g, habit consumption and sosio environtmrntal),and motivation (e.g., males’ preference for meat, driven by masculinity traits). Key barriers include taste and habitual meat consumption, while opportunities involve affordability and interest in healthy food. Effective strategies include improving plant-based meat appeal, providing information on meat’s harmful effects, and offering affordable alternatives. Gender-tailored interventions addressing motivations and capabilities are essential to promote plant-based protein adoption and reduce meat consumption. Keywords: Behavior change, reducing meat consumption, plant-based protein alternatives, and young adulthood
