Abstract

Leaf pruning reduces resource competition, directing assimilates to fruit development, while aging plants require supplemental K to support nutrient uptake. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of pruning leave below fruits and foliar application of K₂SO₄ on fruit weight and quality. The experiment was conducted over three months (October–December 2024) in a screenhouse at Pondok Pesantren Aqwamu Qila, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Sampling and analysis were carried out at the Crop Production Management Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. A split-plot design was used with two factors, namely K₂SO₄ concentrations (0, 1, 2, 3 g/L) as the main plot and pruning (with/without) as the subplot, resulting in 8 treatment combinations replicated in 3 blocks. Data were analyzed using split-plot ANOVA in R-Studio, followed by DMRT at a 95% confidence level when significant differences were found. The study showed that pruning significantly increased leaf length (16.49%) and width (20.89%). The application of 0 g/L K₂SO₄ produced the highest harvest index (0.49), though not significantly different compared to that of 2 g/L and 3 g/L. Combining leaf pruning with 2 g/L K₂SO₄ resulted in a high leaf area and LAI (5.68), comparable to non-pruned plants with 3 g/L K₂SO₄ (5.83). This combination also yielded the highest fruit potassium content (1.90%) but lowered fruit sweetness (8.65 ˚Brix). The elevated potassium content may provide health benefits, particularly in reducing blood pressure.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the physiological responses of shallots in drought stress with the application of salicylic acid and biosilica. The research was conducted in the Tri Dharma experimental station plastic house, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, located in Banguntapan District, Bantul, Yogyakarta, from November 2019 to May 2020. A factorial 4x2 experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with four blocks. The treatments were a four-level exogenous induction, i.e., 0,5mM SA, 6mM Si, a combination of 0,5 SA and 6mM Si, and control/0 exogenous induction by a two-level irrigation interval, i.e., one-day interval and three-day interval. The variables observed included leaf greenness, leaf and root surface area, plant fresh and dry weight, endogenous SA, POD enzyme activity, H2O2 levels, and yield components. The data were statistically analyzed using the analysis of variance with the honestly significant difference value, calculated as Tukey's statistic at the 5% level. The research results showed that a three-day irrigation interval did not significantly affect the growth and yield of the Bima Brebes shallot cultivar. Application of a combination of 0,5 mM SA and 6 mM Si can increase plant tolerance by accumulating higher levels of endogenous SA so that plants can maintain leaf greenness better than controls, increase bulb dry weight, harvest index, and shallot productivity, and significantly increase bulb diameter in three day-irrigation intervals.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of an ethical work environment on the intention to report wrongdoing, with job satisfaction and self-efficacy as mediating factors, drawing from the Theory of Planned Behavior. The research was conducted at a state-owned bank, employing purposive sampling to gather data from 210 banking employees in Jakarta, Indonesia. Hypothesis testing utilized Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Lisrel 8.80 program. The findings indicate that an ethical work climate has a positive influence on job satisfaction, self-efficacy, and whistleblowing intention. However, job satisfaction exerts a negative impact on whistleblowing intention, and therefore does not mediate the relationship between the ethical work environment and whistleblowing intention. Meanwhile, self-efficacy positively affects whistleblowing intention, but similarly does not mediate the relationship with ethical work climate. This study demonstrates that the intention to behave is the primary determinant of a person's actions and is not significantly influenced by the two tested mediating variables, following the Theory of Planned Behavior.
