Abstract

 ABSTRACTMangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) is a tropical plant that originated from Southeast Asia. Mangosteenrindis used to treat various diseases, antihistamine, antibacterial, anti-cancer, anti-hypertension and stroke. This study aims to determine the effect of extracts of mangosteen rind (Garcinia mangostana L.) on the estrous cycle of mice (Mus musculus L. Swiss Webster). This study is an experiment used Completely Randomized Design ( CRD ), 4 treatments and 6 replications. Mangosteen peel extract given to mice by gavage for 24 days way. The extract was given to mice at a dose of B 0.2, C 0.4, D 0.6 and Control A 0 g /head/day. Observations made during the estrous cycle of 26 days to review the vaginal smear method with stained Giemsa. The data obtained were analyzed by Analysis of Variance by analyzing the average length of one cycle and each phase of the estrous cycle of mice and Duncan New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT).The results showed mangosteen peel extract can prolong the estrous cycle during the (± 3 days) and extension occurred in all phases of the cycle (proestrus, estrous, and diestrus, metestrus ). Added time proestrus phase of the shortest found in A (1.25 days) and longest in treatment C (2 days). Estrous phase of the shortest found in A (2.13 days) and longest in treatment D (3 days). Metestrus  phase the shortest found in A (1.71 days) and longest in treatment D (3.58 days). Diestrus phase of the shortest found in A ( 1.42 days ) and longest in treatment D ( 3.52 days ). Added estrous cycle at a time (6.5 days), B (9.33 days), C (10.07 days) and D (11.53 days). From these results it can be concluded that mangosteen peel extract given orally prolong the estrous cycle and extension at each phase of the estrous cycle

Abstract

ditemukan di semua bagian tanaman ini. Batang Tinospora crispa mengandung kolumbin,  zat  pahit,  alkaloid  dan glicosida.  Alkaloid  merupakan zat antiproliferatif, dimana zat antiproliferatif ini dapat mengurangi jumlah oosit yang dihasilkan dan mengurangi jumlah oosit yang mengalami ovulasi sehingga mempengaruhi penampilan reproduksi mencit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek  toksik dan teratogenik  ekstrak  Tinospora crispa pada sistem reproduksi dan embrio tikus. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan menggunakan mencit betina (Mus musculus L.) sebanyak 24 ekor. Penelitian memakai rancangan acak lengkap dengan empat perlakuan dan enam ulangan.  Perlakuan  yang  diberikan  adalah  ekstrak  brotowali  dengan  berbagaidosis, yaitu: A adalah kontrol, perlakuan B (5x10-2), C (6x10-2) dan D (7x10-2)g/mencit.  Parameter  yang  diamati  adalah  jumlah  korpus  luteum,  implantasi, embrio  resorpsi,  janin  mati dan  janin  hidup.  Data  dianalisis  dengan  Analisis Varians dan uji lanjut DNMRT pada taraf α 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak brotowali berpengaruh nyata terhadap jumlah korpus luteum, janin hidup, janin mati dan embrio resorpsi mencit dengan 0 sampai 16 hari kehamilan. Sementara, terhadap jumlah implantasi berpengaruh tidak nyata, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak brotowali memiliki efek embriotoksik dan fetotoksik terhadap mencit betina hamil.

Abstract

Based on the results of PISA in 2000- 2009, the score of Indonesian students science literacy with the average score was 500. The low score of Indonesian students’ acquisition is reflecting the poor performance of Indonesian students in learning science. This study was conducted to determine the students’ achievements of biological science literacy as the total score, science competency, content, context and problems format, and the description of scientific literacy PISA comparison with students’ origin school and the students’ National Examination result and the factors that influence it.This research is a descriptive research. It was conducted to student grade X in SMAN 1, SMAN 8, SMAN 13 and SMAN 16 Padang. The instrument used to collect data is the text about the biological scientific literacy PISA test taken from the book Take the Test: Sample Question from the OECDs PISA Assessment. The results showed that the highest score of biological science literacy based on the total score was obtained by the students of SMAN 1 score 57.50, SMAN 8 score 45.90, SMAN 13 score 43.50 and SMA 16 score 42.40. Based on the science competency, the students are good at applying scientific evidence. The overall score of the students’ science competency 48.51 (low), content t 48.12 (low) and context 46.82 (low) and the highest average score is in essay problem. It can conclude that the student of grade X, Senior High School in Padang have low point of students science literacy

Abstract

The low learning outcomes of students are caused by several problems encountered during the learning process, such as IPA learning process still used teacher centered and lecturing methode. The result of student learning competence still low result and the teacher hasn’t yet used learning models can make student will be active. One effort was made to improve students learning competence by applying problem solving learning models. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of problem solving, learning model to the students learning competence SMP 13 Padang. This study is an experimental research using the design of The Static Group Comparison. The study population is all students of Class VIII  SMPN 13 Padang. Sampling using purposive sampling technique. The control class uses the learning model commonly used in the classroom IE discovery learning model and experimental class using a problem solving learning model. The research instrument used is a test of learning result and affective and skill assessment in the form of observation sheet. Data were analyzed using t-test for knowledge, competence because the data were normally distributed and homogeneously. Data were analyzed using up-test for affective and skill competence.Result of hypothesis test in both classes of sample, found that class which uses problem solving, learning model have positive effect of student learning competence of Class VIII 6 SMPN 13 Padang such as knowledge, affective and skill competence

Abstract

Science learning should be able to develop the ability to think, to work, to use tools, and to live in the world for students. Integrated Science learning and integration of digital age literacy give good opportunities for students to develop fourth of these skills. But the reality shows that the implementa-tion of integrated science learning and integration of literacy in learning can’t be implemented well. An alternative solution of this problem is to develop integrated science learning by integrating digital age literacy. Before developing this integrated science materials it is necessary to conduct preliminary research as a basis for designing this learning materials. The purpose of this preliminary research is to describe the integration of knowledge basic competencies of science subjects, the implementation of integrated science learning, the learning materials available for science learning, and the integrating literacy of students. The type of research was descriptive research method. As object of the research consist of science teachers, syllabus and science learning materials, and students of grade VIII in ju-nior high school. Instruments to collect data consist of interview guide sheet, science syllabus and learning materials document, and digital age literacy test sheet. Research data was analyzed with de-scriptive statistic. Base on data analysis can be stated that results of this research are: 1). integrated science learning on  grade VIII junior high school students can’t be implemented well, 2). the value of integration of science learning materials and its application in knowledge basic competence can be classified into enough category, 3). generally science learning materials in integrated science text-books and science worksheet on grade VIII junior high school are still separated form, and 4). the average value of digital age literacy of students is classified into low category.

Abstract

The main problem in the Junior High School of West Rengat is the absence of biology laboratory work guide for the practical activities. The presentation of the biology laboratory work guide in the student work sheets, and text books is still in a cookery model. It is not optimal to support student?s skill in science process. The aimed of this research to produce a valid, practical and efffective biology practical guide based on scientific approach for student at class VII of MTs/SMP in 2nd semester. The research used the Plomp model that has the preliminary research, the prototype phase and assessment phase. The data collect used validator sheet, practicalities by teacher and students questionnaires, observations of student activity sheets, student motivation questionnaire, and the paper-pencil test to cognitive student competence. The data were analyzed with the description of the percentage. The results showed that the biology laboratory work guide based on scientific approach for student at class VII of MTs/SMP in 2nd semester have validation score 83,05% (very valid category), the practicalities score 87,56%  (very practice), and effectiveness score 84,36% (very effective). It can conclude that the biology laboratory work-guide based on scientific approach for student at class VII of MTs/SMP in 2nd semester has very valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

The aim of this experimental study is to know the effect of cottonseed extracts toward the reproduction of mice (Mus musculus L., Swiss Webster). This experiment used completely randomized design with 4 treatment and 6 replied. Treatment given was cottonseed extract with several dose, namely control (0 gram/mice), 0,03 gram/mice, 0,05 gram/mice and 0,07 gram/mice. This research was conducted on Desember 2013-January 2014 in animal house Zoology Laboratory Majors Biology FMIPA UNP. The parameters are vaginal smear, corpus luteum number, implantation, life fetus, died fetus, abnormal fetus, resorpsion fetus and average of weight fetus. Data is analyzed by ANOVA and DNMRT significant p (0,05). The result shows that cottonseed extract indicated that there are extension proestrous, metestrous, and diestrous. It can conclude that cottonseed extract influenced mice cycle reproduction. The cottonseed extracts indicated there are decreasing corpus luteum number, implantation number, life fetus number and average of fetus weight were compared by control. This research concludes that cottonseed extract (Gossypium hirsutum L.) influenced the performance reproduction of mice (Mus musculus L., Swiss Webster). Key words: gossypol, fetus, cycle and performance reproduction

Abstract

Students are one of the elements involved in the learning process. Student success can not be separated from learning, to improve learning outcomes necessary motivation in learning. Motivation is influenced by multiple factors originating from within is called intrinsic motivation, and students who come from outside the student called extrinsic motivation. The purpose of this research is to know the difference RSBI student motivation to learn biology in junior high school students and regular first Pariaman. Type of research is a descriptive. The population in this research is RSBI students and regular students in junior high school first Pariaman numbering 120 persons. In this study sampling was not done, the entire sampled population. The variables in this research that students' motivation to learn biology RSBI and regular students in junior high school one school year 2009/2010 Pariaman. Data collected by using questionnaire and then analyzed using descriptive analysis of the percentage. Results showed that students' intrinsic motivation to learn in RSBI students higher than regular students. Conversely, the student extrinsic motivation to learn biology in regular students is better than RSBI students. RSBI students' intrinsic motivation in learning biology, including the criteria very well.Key words: Motivation, intrinsic, extrinsic, RSBI

Abstract

The research to describe the ewe ovarian status post transplanted intrauterine in local pseudo pregnant rabbit had been conducted by using a descriptive method in which the 4 pieces to 4 spaces of ewe ovarian were transplanted to each of the rabbit?s cornua uterine. The description of completed ovarian post the transplanted scored with 4 (90-100% completed), 3 (70-90% completed), 2 (50-70% completed) , and 1 (<50% completed). In the research, the COCs (Cumulus Oophorus Complexes) were collected by slicing method, and then the date of the CoCs was analyzed by ANOVA and DNMRT. The result showed that all ewe ovarian in local pseudo pregnant rabbits post-transplanted were still alive until the fifth or the seventh day of transplantation. Based on the observation and statistic test, in days 5 and 7, it was found a similar status (p<0.05) of post-transplanted ewe ovarian in local and control. The percentages of NZW5 (58.82) COCs decreased significantly (p<0.05) compared to the control (50.36), NZW7 (47.52), local5 (50.42) and local7 (44.78) respectively. It can be concluded that intrauterine transplantation of ewe ovarian to the local and NZW pseudo pregnant rabbits can preserve the ovaries.Key words: ovaries, transplantation, local rabbit, COCs

Abstract

One of the pollutants that get into the water of the river in Padang city comes from waste rubber factory.  The river water is still used for various purposes by the people including seeding and caring goldfish with uncertain products. Based on this situation, the research was done in order to find out the effect of the rubber waste on the viability and the seedling growth rate of goldfish. The research used completely randomized design with 5 and 10 treatments. The observation on the hatching eggs after 2 days of incubation at various treatment and measuring the body weight and length of the fish was done 5 times within five days. The data were analyzed by using ANOVA p <0.05 and BJND extended test. As the results it was found the highest average of viability was in treatment A (control) 76.7% and the lowest at treatment E  30%. Whereas there is no seed growth rate difference between treatments A (control) and B (5%), but significantly different p <0.05 with treatment C, D, and E. It can be concluded that the higher the concentration of waste rubber factory the lower goldfish viability. The concentration of factory waste up to 5% is not influential against the growth seedling goldfish. Key words: waste rubber, viability, gold fish egg
